Separation Anxiety and Rescue Remedy

Lately Clyde has been having a tough time while we're at work during the day-- heavy drooling, barking and, today, peeing. His major anxiety occurs only while in the crate during the day. We finally gave in to the (literally) hours of barking at night. We tried ignoring it, stopping it and telling him no bark and downing him but he'd always start up again within about half an hour, or, shall I say, just when I'd finally fall asleep. So I threw in the towel and let him come upstairs. He happily slept all night silently in the hall bathroom outside the bedroom. He was happy to be that close, no drooling or accidents. However, I can't as easily fix the during the day problem.

I noticed a few people had recommended Rescue Remedy in other posts and was hoping that those of you that had used it might share your results with the product and if you'd recommend it? What's the best method of delivery?

I've tried it once on Dancer, and found it had no effect. I was trying to get her to settle for grooming. She eventually settled anyway, but I had been advised to try it, and did. I've been told some put it in their water, or put it directly on their tongue.
I still have it here, and I think I'm going to use it for myself for the dog show. LOL Maybe make a rescue remedy martini...lol....
I know people who use that, they just put a few drops on the tongue. It also works on puppy owners(you know the ones, their dog gets gray and they start thinking puppy  ) Seriously though, I think that's Clyde's way of asking for a playmate :D
   Puppy fever.... I know the feeling, my breeder has pups right now... and they are oooh sooo cute! LOL
I told her in no uncertain terms is she to let me have one. LOL
There is one little boy who is marked exactly like Dancer... he's the one who makes my heart melt. Another little boy who has black ears and the black extends over both eyes like a racoon mask, he is adorable, a little bandit. I better stop thinking about puppies....
I've got 2 already-- don't give me any more ideas! :P Although I have to be honest, if Clyde was solidly housebroken already, I would probably be thinking about another one. Poor Lucy can't take any more puppy play though. Sometimes she'll just give me this look after Clyde bugs the heck out her like, how could you do this to me?

Ooh, while we're on the housebreaking subject, and this is for you too Willowsprite, I felt a little better today about Clyde's less than stellar habits. In our obedience class, there's a guy who's been a trainer for 30 years and he's got this 7 month old Briard who he can't get to stop peeing. He takes him out, the dogs goes, he brings him in, crates him and the dog pees. Moral of the story: this guy's a trainer and even he's having trouble. I guess it just made me feel better that I wasn't really doing anything wrong and that sometimes even seasoned trainers have these problems too. I have to admit, I was feeling pretty good that Clyde's habits were better than his dogs. I know I'm a bad person for reveling in other's misfortune...
Willow-

Aren't you afraid when you have your litter you'll want to keep all of them :D
 is fun!
Rescue Remedy is made by Nelson Bach
Their web site has a list of the flower essence ingredients and
what symptoms they are helpful for. There is a chart specifically for
pets. My understanding is they can be used both internally by mouth
or mixed with water in a spray. The spray is as effective as
by mouth as it is energy fields affected by the flower essence.
I've used the spray on plants and they really grow and blossom!

The site is www.nelsonbach.com

Another reference is www.doggiesparadise.com
Go to Dog Health, then bach Flower remedy
There is dosing information.

Highly recommend the seminars by Nelson Bach, it was very informative.
( Adding Bach Flower remedy to the bath was one exercise,
I found it relaxed me !)

Hope this helps...

I actually just ordered some so I'm hoping it will calm him down a little. I hate the idea of my poor little boy all upset waiting for us to get home.
You can buy it at Whole Foods and some health food stores.
I didn't even think of health food stores. I got a good deal on eBay though. I hope it works. Maybe I'll try it too. Better yet, I'm going to secretly put it in everyone's offices at work :)

Not bad at all...lol... makes me feel better too! LOL
Actually things have gotten much better, the girls have been doing well with no mud, but if it rains, I can count on using up a lot of papertowels for puddles. Sky doesn't care about the mud, but since Dancer is miss priss and won't step in it, she pees in the house instead which then makes Sky decide she should too. We have our good days and bad days, but I think there has been progress.... mostly because I've been home more and not working as much.

Yes, but my husband is more afraid.
I used a whole bottle on the boys when Daisy was in season, in one night. I was hoping they would stop howling til the next day when I could get her up north. I can safely say it doesn't work for that problem :D

I think your husband has reason to be afraid.....very afraid  Your girls are beautiful, I bet you'll have a wonderful litter.

Thanks, Ron !
PUPPY FEVER?????????? I didn't know that was what it was called HEHEHEHE  I have a NEW PUPPY arriving in 2 weeks (not a sheepie  ) Doug (MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER) THOUGHT IT WAS "EMPTY NEST SYNDROME". I told him it was better a puppy than a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8O

But come to think of it, Tasker is 8 AND REALLY GRAY............... I'd have loved another sheepie but my house is just too small, even if I do have LOTS of land.

I have the nursery prepared......... new crate, new bed, TWO CARRIERS (couldn't decide which I liked best), 2 boxes of 100 puppy pads, a can of powdered formula (just in case), new lead and collar, lots of toys, I knitted a "baby blanket", play pen, and a terry cloth bath robe with a yellow duck on the back. DID I FORGET ANYTHING?????

I THINK Tasker is as excited as I am........ he know something is up. Everytime I get something for the new pup I get him a new toy. I've tried to find the book for dogs "So, You are going to be a BIG BROTHER" but it must not have been written yet............

AM I CRAZY??????

Flower essences can be used individually or in combinations.
Rescue Remedy is a combination of Impatiens,Star of Bethleham,
Cherry Plum, Rock Rose, and Clematis.

New to flower essences ? See www.drandrew.co.uk
This site explains how they work, a flower essence list
and what each is used for.
No, you're not crazy, Tasker's mom! I spend so much money at the pet supply store now because I feel guilty coming home with something for one and not the other. Lucy doesn't like toys but she loves bones but she tears through them fast so I get her the big, thick expensive ones. I'm so thrilled to have a dog that likes toys that I have to buy whatever cute thing is there. SO, if I get 2 toys, I have to get 2 bones, and so on and so on. It's a vicious cycle!
