Panda went to prison

Betcha you guys were wondering what the heck Panda did to end up in prison!

He did a meet and greet with the canine unit there and next week I'll be bringing him again along with Snoop.

Over 2 years ago, I brought Snoop as a 4 month old to live at the prison and I returned to a well trained pup. I was moving at the time so didn't have time to take him to obedience and didn't want to miss a important time in his life. Snoop was the Pitbull pup that was brought to my home at age 13 wks and I knew it was important for him to be well socialized with other dogs, people ect...He's been in constant training since early in his life and now lives happily with Merlin,Panda, Gilligan, 12 cats, 13 bunnies, 2 guinea pigs at my "animal sanctuary". Snoop is Merlin's best friend. He's gone for additional training since, at various obedience training with me when I finally settled in the new place. I was hoping to get his CGN this summer.

A few prisons in North America do this - they take the most unadoptable dogs from shelters and retrain them. The dogs get a second chance at life as they become highly adoptable. It's a win/win situation - Service dogs are also trained at the prison. They fund the program by taking in dogs from private people (daycare, training and boarding).

Next week, I'll go back with Panda and Snoop. This is to prepare them to stay at the prison in a few weeks time. Panda just gets to have fun and Snoop will go for additional training. I get to go on my first vacation in 10 years!!!!!!!!!

That's another story I'll write about soon but Kaj's work is sending him to Paris and offered to send me along!!! Some of you may remember they offered to do this last year and pay for pet sitting but i said NO and everyone thought I was nuts. I have also said no to years of offers of free ticket from Kaj's family as well. Now, with lots of notice I will finally go as I feel confident i can make the proper arrangements for all the pets as they are my priority.
(The others will get an inhome sitter.)

Me...I get to catch a free ride to Paris/Amsterdam...OMG!!! I get to meet Kaj's family for the first time.

I sure was wondering what prison you meant.

How exciting for you! :excited: Paris, fantastic. :yay: Have a great time and bring back some photos to show.
I think it's wonderful that they are doing this. The prisoners learn to care about something that is dependent on them and might possibly give them something worthwhile when they get out.
Wonderful strory Marianne and have a great time in Paris!

I'm glad you are FINALLY going! Your human relationships are just as important as your "kids."

Have a great time!
:D Bon voyage, Marianne!
I know that you will miss your furkids, but have fun and know that they are having fun too! And think of the snuggles you will get when you return.
Hi Again,

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. However, not leaving for aprox 2 months but doing all the prep work now so that hopefully all the animals will not stress too much when I'm gone. Just familiarizing them with the people there and where they'll be staying.
Today, Kaj and I took Panda, Snoop and Merlin in for vet checks and their kennel cough innoculations. Panda had a complete geriatric panel as did Gilligan 3 wks ago. All the cats and bunnies have had health checks ..so all their files are updated should anything happen when I'm gone.

Gilligan and Merlin (to keep him company) are having someone staying at my home so Gilligan will get the attention he needs. My bunny rescue group are willing to stop in should any emergency arise with the bunnies...and I have SPCA people willing to help in any way with the cats (since 90% are former SPCA unadoptables). Whew! A ton of work but 2 months gives me lots of time to do the prep work.

In all 5 people to look after the animals which I do day in day out for many years. Ahhhhh I so need a vacation!!! Kaj will be posted outside of Paris for the first 5 days so I'll be by myself in the city. He'll join me on the weekend before we head to Amsterdam. Whoo Paris by myself for 5 days!!! I'll probably sleep the entire time. LOL!
The training sounds great - especially as they offer continuing ed classes too!
A friend adopted her dog from a prison program - they did a wonderful job with her.

And vacation - YES! :high5:
It is quite a job getting your fur kids all taken care of.

You are very lucky to be going and certainly deserve to have some fun. I envy you your trip to Amsterdam, my mother's parents emigrated from there in the early 1900's. Have always wanted to see country.
Take a few pics to share with us! I know it's a while away, but HAVE FUN!
