"Your dog's huge!"

Does anyone else get comments like this a lot? The number of times people have commented on what a large dog Mady is... But I don't think of her as a big dog at all. She's only 70lbs, and I know her full coat makes her look a lot bigger (people always think she must be over 100lbs). But I always think of her as a medium sized dog (in fact, she's just my little baby girl... :hearts: )

Yep!! Yuki is around 60lbs and we always get told she's a horse/bear/name another big animal. I think their hair is misleading!!!
Yup, even in a puppy cut we get that reaction.
We get this a lot too, even though both of mine are only 60# each :? To me a "Huge" dog is at least 100#!

Part of its the fur, but as ICH said...it happens even when they are trimmed, or even totally shaved 8O .

My theory...Sheepies just have BIG personalities!!!!
People say this about both of our dogs. It always surprises me when they say Ecco is large (75 lbs), because she's inevitably standing next to her 125 lb sister, Kendra. 8O

With Kendra (English Mastiff), every time we take her for a walk, someone suggests that maybe we should just put a saddle on her. Yet, I don't even think she is really all that big. I mean, I've seen 200 lb mastiffs, so I often refer to her as an "itty bitty mastiff", which gets me all kinds of weird looks.
Yeah, even MO, who took years to get above 60 lbs has been called huge when by herself, but standing with her Pyr and Newf brothers and sisters, she was itty bitty. Now Jack hovers between 90-100 lbs and if I had him brushed out in all his glory, he would look twice as large. Mo is back to itty bitty.

I just not see huge at 60 lbs.....I take note above 100. But then compared to the average dog of 30 lbs or so, I guess ours are "huge."
This is timely, cleaning out drawers today and found our Yorkie's puppy collar. I laughed out loud. Every bit of 2-3inches circumference. Sooo, guess are sheepies are huge in perspective 8)
We get this alot too. But in Oscar's case, folks think he's bigger because of the fur, and don't realize that he is actually built like a brick #$%^ house. :D He's a svelte 112 lbs as of last Thursday.

Laurie and Oscar, Solid as a Rock
We get told that Tiggy is huge too.

She is a bit longer in body than our dalmo but about the same height. I always point out to anyone that says Tiggy is huge that she only weighs 2 kg more than the dalmo. That always makes them stop and think :lmt: Then they tell me that it must be her coat.

Wouldn't be that she's just bounded up to them full steam ahead, screached to a halt at their feet and then danced around waiting for some lovin'? :excited:
People say the same to me about Violet and Asia, but I think of them as medium. lol They are both around 75# and 26 inches at the withers. A Great Dane is a big dog to me. lol Oh well, more to hug.
yep...here too!!!

Especially on a therapy visit..

but..then I push all her fuzz down and explain she is only 63 pounds, sitting right by her is 2 other dogs, Bear is 195 pounds (bull mastiff) ...and 85 pound Harley (a golden mix)~~~so in THAT respect, my HEART :hearts: is the petite one!!!!!! :phew: :phew:
every one always says is that the girl to my duffy then they look at dreamer and say wow i never saw a sheepdog that big ..i agree with them dreamer is a bit on the tall size 32" porr duffy is always called a girl

Yes Dreamer is a tall sheepie. Poor Duffy, probably think he's a girl because he's so cute.
Yep. So you'd better get used to ridiculous questions. :cow: 8)

Nelson is only 95# but hairy. He looks huge. We've heard all the "get the saddle" comments, "How much does he eat?" "Does he sleep in the HOUSE?" All kinds of crazy stuff. It goes with the territory with an OES. We love walking on the beach with Nelson but after awhile it's hard to keep a straight face because of all the wacky questions and comments. He doesn't care as long as he's the center of attention, which he always is. :hearts:
We went camping with Farley (2nd oes) and Tripper when they were less than one year old. Someone saw them and hollered out CUJO, said no, wrong breed.

Other than both being large breeds, how could anyone confuse an OES with a St. Bernard? :lmt:

Not sure but they didn't seem to be the smartest ones there.

How about:

Hey! Who's walking who? HAHAHAHAHAHA! Ugggggghhhhhhh,

Not even a little funny. Do you really think you're the first person to say that?

In all fairness, two of my dogs are huge. Bear is thin but 7 feet long from tip to tail. Clyde is so fat he can barely get through doorways anymore. I've been greasing his sides with butter. I think he weighs about 325 now. I always call Owen the little one but even he's 85 pounds. His coat is really misleading, though. It does make him look twice the size he is.
