Double-team grooming, good idea or bad idea?

I have often thought that grooming Mady would be easier if David and I both worked on her at the same time, say, for example, me working on her ears and chin while he worked elsewhere. He thinks that this would be too much for Mady. I think that he is hogging all the grooming glory. Opinions?

OMG... I wish Adam would help me!!! With two dogs, it'd be a dream to be done in half the time!
For most dogs, it's too much. In a pinch we do it at shows, but it tends to stress them out. :(

Two only really works if the other one is just distracting or petting the dog, or if they are holding a leg or such.

Yes, and I am so, so, so sorry :plead: :plead:
On the other hand Lisa and I have teamed up to groom and it's worked ok.

We kept the sessions shorter though but that's ok because we got more done. I don't think we did face or any sensitive areas in a team effort though. I would do butt while Lisa did leg or shoulder or neck. Something like that.
It works, and twice as fast. Mim and I make an awesome team. I help her with tiggy and Mim helps me with my mob when help is needed, glass of wine while grooming, trimming and all goes well on which ever dog we are attacking.

Shortens the grooming session especially if the dog knows who is attacking them from both ends!!!! 8)
Ha the glass of wine will get Kim. :P

You could hand out cheese Kim that should keep everyone happy during the joint grooming session.
:bulb: Try it! Might be different from one dog to another.
If you start with letting one pet while the other brush...
..the dog would easier axcept it. :)
And it is so nice, you can talk and have fun too, like Mim and lisa,
while doing this work together......wish I had one who could groom
now and then, living in my house or near by. 8)
Typically in our house, I hold and pet Murphy, while Blake does the grooming/shaving.
Nope. Sorry, no can do. The status quo is perfect.

At the giant dog park:
"Oh you dog is so beautiful and so well groomed, who does that?"

"I do all the grooming, several hours a week, but I love her."

"Oh wow, that's so great!"

"Yes yes, I know it is, thank you. What? My wife Kim? Yeah she doesn't do any grooming just all the cooking, cleaning, ironing, paying the bills, you know, all the no-glory boring stuff..."
:sidestep:
I remember watching one breeder team groom an OES. Three people worked that dog over before entering the ring. The finishing touches were done by one individual allowing the dog time to destress......if he was. The other exhibitors in the "hairy" breeds were single grooming.

"My wife does all the grooming, I get to do the fun stuff and enjoy her."

"Oh wow, you are lucky!"

Kim, you only have one choice.
"Get thee to a reputable breeder." Pronto!! You're just gonna have to get yourself a puppy all your own to groom. :D :D

Ditto what Dawn says. For regular grooming sessions better for it to be just one of you. The dog learns to relax & actually fall aseep. We team groom only at shows when we are putting the finishing touches on before going into the ring. Or when one person is holding the chin hairs so the dog won't move while the other is trimming feet & butts. We do team groom on the last day after done showing. That way we get all the dogs brushed out before they go home especially if they are going home to their "other" owners.
It works great in our house. In fact, I find she is calmer than when I am grooming alone. She seems to just bliss out when she has all the attention.

It works great at shows too. Even when it is not her daddy who is helping groom. And we are done in half the time.

Only way to really know is to give it a try a couple of times.

Enjoy!

Psht, Sunny and I team groom at shows all the time. I'm slower than dirt when it comes to brushing so she figures it's the only way I'll get into the ring in time.

I'm not sure why it would bother a dog? Brushing is brushing, what does it matter if it's in one spot or two? Unless dog is really matted and there's a lot of tugging going on.

Get hubby to help is my vote ;-)

It isn't getting HIM to help, he does it all. It is getting him to let ME help! I never thought I would have this problem with David. Why can't I have this problem with David with cleaning? Or cooking? Or grocery shopping?
