citronella bark collar?

Does anyone have any experience with these. I am preparing to find breeder through the OES rescue website breeder referral person. No reply yet. I guess it takes them a while. There are so many available online, but I am so afraid of behavioral problems that I really want to do this the right way. Does nayone have any suggestions for breeders in the Wisconsin/Illinois/MN/MI area?

I really appreciate all your help. Thanks for being real with me about how hard this can be and for also not telling me that I cant handle it. It means a lot.

Any other suggestions are much appreciated. I guess I am still very nervous about it all.

Lauren,
Don't be nervous - it'll happen when it's supposed to happen. (Sorry! The mother in me took over!)

As for barking, each dog is different. None of mine have been big barkers, only when the doorbell rang, or when we were playing with them. So I can't add any comments on barking because I don't have any experience with it.

You're going about this the right way - research, research, and research some more! I would never presume to tell anyone they can't handle a sheepie - where there's a will, there's a way (okay, mom mode again - sorry!). Just want you to see this from all angles, to really know what you're signing up for - a lifetime of love and devotion!

I can pipe up too to say that I don't have a big barker either. Like Drezzie's mom, only when the doorbell rings or when playing but even then, only to initiate play. The only negative barking Clyde does is when he's lonely at night and even that is subsiding-- thank goodness! You may not even have to worry!
Ho did you all leave on the first day back to work after you got your puppy? I hook up heart monitors on patient and would love to have my dog travel with me, althoug it would be too hot in the summer unless I elft the air on in the car when I went in to the patients home.

So, in anticipation of leaving him/her for the first time, how do I handle that if he/she starts howling etc.

What does everyone think of doggy day care once per week?

Also, how much does it cost to have OES prfessionally groomed once a month?

Thanks so much....I appreciate this advice more than you know!

ps...i am still looking for breeders if you have any suggestions.

Look in your phone book for pet sitters and groomers. Call around and ask for prices. Every place is different and will charge you for different things.

Ex:

Groomers - will sometimes charge depending on coat condition, attitude, size and coat length and the style of the coat you want (shaving, hair style etc).

Pet Sitters - will sometimes charge depending on size, if they feed your dog or you bring your own food in, age, or if you want them to take them for long walks, if it is puppy day care or boarding... etc... etc..

Just call them up - they should give you their rates and if they have what you need. I would check the places that are in your price range - you want to make sure they treat your dog well and aren't mean.

Ex: My boyfriend didn't check out two of his boarding facilities - one of them jerked his dog around because they were mad at her (mean  ) and the second place his dog got the MANGE from! It's good to make sure you know about all their practices and what they do with your pup. Check out the groomers too - make sure they are nice doggy people.

Bring your dog to the groomer before they have to groom - that way the staff will know your dog and your dog knows them. Maybe s/he won't be upset when s/he gets groomed if she knows them.

She is one of the best breeders I've talked to hands down! :D She is really helpful and has a sense of humor to boot. She checks for eyes and hips and has very good prices for as beautiful as her dogs are. Also - she takes her puppies back and/or tries to work with people when they are having problems with their pup.
