sheepiepalooza maybe this year?

Hi all!

Was wondering if sheepiepalooza will be held this year? I know it is early in the year, but we are making travel plans and don't want to miss it!
Gigi wants to meet her fashion advisor, Heart!
Bogey is looking forward to a hotel room with a bed just for him!
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
I LOVE sheepie Palooza! Sadly, if its Memorial Day weekend, we may not make it. We have business events the weekend before and after, and its a lot of travel for us....
We are supposed to have a general club meeting in two weeks.

I am not optimistic that IF it happens that it will be as large as what it once was. But I will try to encourage our club members to step up and offer something.

I will let you know in a couple of weeks. Thanks for asking.

Feedback to the following questions from any members who have attended would be appreciated.

1) Would you be willing to come in with only the Sunday being an organized picnic? If Saturday would be sort of informal, where people can get together at various dog friendly places around St. Louis with no set times or places? Just sort of hook up with people word of mouth to the places that seem interesting to you.

2) Would you be willing to come in for a nice long social weekend with no chance to try agility at the picnic?

There would be no reservations with our club. We could find a hotel (probably Pear Tree) that would give us a reasonable rate - no guarantee of a group rate depending on the number of people interested.

I really think there is a dire need for a centrally located social gathering of Sheepdogs like Sheepiepalooza but Val and I cannot organize it ourselves as we have done in the past. That is why I am suggesting a much more informal but still FUN gathering.

St. Louis can be a really fun place to party with your dog.

I would certainly be willing to party with people all weekend.

So please be honest as I would like to find some alternative to "ALL or NOTHING" because it is not going to be ALL the way things stand right now.

Just sort of hook up with people word of mouth to the places that seem interesting to you. If we had the picnic on a Saturday we could then travel back Sunday and then have a day off on Monday. I really enjoyed the Friday night Mexican night meeting everyone. We do not need goodie bags, fancy name tags, a parade, or tshirts, it is so much work for you. I loved just joining new friends for lunch and dinner, it was a lot of fun for Patch and me.

Well, I'm sure glad that this came up.

I was wondering the same thing myself as I need to plan ahead.

Judy, we don't need anything fancy. Its just fun to get together with all the people and dogs. Memorial weekend is a good time because its a long weekend. I agree with the picnic on Sat though then it gives us time to explore and the long drive home.

We don't need the agility(although it was fun), nor the goody bags or fancy nametags. We just need to gather and party.

PLEASE :plead: say we can do it again this year. I really, really, really miss it.

I would help from this end as much as I can!!!!
It's only five hours away for us so we're coming to St. Louis, Sheepiepalooza or not! :high5: :high5: :high5:

I cannot agree more, Judi!!!! I think St. Louis is a perfect place for a get-together like Sheepiepalooza~~

I would love to see everyone and just have a great, fun time watching all the sheepies playing(((and, of course going out to eat!!!)))...

I would really love to see more feedback too!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
its a 10 hour drive for us. With a convention in California the weekend before, and in North Carolina the weekend after, I don't see how we'll be able to do it. :(
Thanks for the initial feedback everyone!

My thinking in the past has always been the Saturday to travel in and the Monday to travel out. But I underestimated the Sheepie (owners) Determination and almost everyone was in town by Friday night which is how the Friday night gathering started.

So this is the idea so far - with some brainstorming on my part:

Friday night - traipsing out to dog friendly restaurants/bars (for those in town)

Saturday -
Pot Luck PICNIC
There is a nice grocery store on the way out to Purina Farms. The St. Louis OES Club could provide the meat and drinks.
Pot Luck ORAL AUCTION?
I have always liked the idea of our coming together resulting in helping other Sheepdogs. So anyone who wants to donate can bring in a SHEEPIE related item and then we can spend our time merrily bidding and outbidding each other as a Rescue group and/or Health & Research reaps the benefits.

Sunday - sightseeing around dog friendly St. Louis (for those wanting some extra fun)
- Paddle Boats
- Shopping in dog friendly Central West End
- Dog Park (maybe)
- meat flavored Doggie Sno Cones
- eating (of course) at Dog Friendly restaurants

How does this sound to everyone? Pending Club approval as well.

I think the only preliminary planning I can tell is that we would have to make some phone calls to set up a hotel, picnic site and maybe a dog park. And phone calls to the Boat House and some shops to verify that they will be open on Sunday.

The only other question is t-shirts.
IF we can find someone in our club to volunteer to take pre-orders only (including payment) would you be interested in having shirts?

Perhaps someone from out of town staying at the hotel could volunteer to distribute shirts from their room on Saturday morning to the others staying in the hotel.

Keep the feedback coming. I need as much as possible before our club meeting.
sounds like a blast!!! wish Texas wasnt so far away.
^^^^^^

AWWWwwww it's NOT too far!!! Just think of all the fun you will have!!!

In the past we have had sheepies come from New York, Florida, California, Canada AND Brazil~~~~~ :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

JUST think about it!!!! It is worth the trip~~

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. We are planning on coming from Florida. Gigi and Bogey have been waiting for two years. Your tentative plans sound great. We don't need much, just want to get together and have fun and eat of course!
If it happens, we will be there! :clappurple: Chewie and I for sure, most likely LeAnne, Martha and family too.

It's an 8 hour drive for us, but we've got it all down pat now . :D

Our local show is that weekend, but I don't have anyone I'd be entering this year.....so St Louis sounds like a good plan.

And I need as much lead time about the exact dates for work requests as I can get. :)
I like the idea of the Friday dinner at a dog-friendly place.

There should be a quick parade, dogpark, and maybe a picnic (or dogpark/picnic combo?)

Lunch in Central Park West one of the days.

I'm OK with 86'ing the agility stuff, the t-shirts, goody bags, nametags, etc.

When it comes down to it, it should just be about getting together with other sheepie owners and a way for board members to see each other in real life.

And if you do it, I'm pretty sure I would come. I miss St. Louis and can use it as an excuse to see some of the Chrysler guys I worked with out there in Fenton.

Pot Luck PICNIC

Judi and Val, just a suggestion - because several of us are coming from out of town, could we all chip in to have the picnic catered; and that would include the plates, napkins, cups, cutlery, ice, coolers, dog treats and cakes, etc etc. I couldn't make anything in Louisville and bring it - and even if I went to a grocery in St Louis, I couldn't cook it. I want to do my part, but couldn't if it was pot luck. The Mexican food in 2009 (and Jose Cuervo margaritas) was fantastic - could we do that again.
^^^^^^^

No Denise. Then Val or I are doing all the organizing again. Collecting money, etc. And even if someone wants to collect all the money someone HERE still has to oversee it all. If we start going down that path the event will be less likely to happen.

You could pick up chips, potato salad, etc. They have a great deli at these grocery stores with lots of cold salads that are on sale. Also desserts.

Another option is to volunteer to pick up some sort of paper products.

We probably don't need everyone to bring something anyway.

This is only my opinion. But I CANNOT get involved especially as my work situation has changed for the worse. And I just volunteered for another BIG job for the 2013 Nationals so I can't take on anything more.
There must be places that have prepared meals to go. Also there are places such as Chilis, Applebees, KFC, or Carabas or other restaurants that sell catered sized platers in St Louis that each of us could pick up before the picknic. Is Publix there? or other grocery stores that sell ready to eat selections -- large subs etc.... Food will work out. I can bring paper products from here or pick them up in St Louis. Walmart I am sure is in St Louis.
Also if you want, I can get t-shirts made and/or scarves for the sheepies.
We would arrive early Friday or Thursday if you need. Whatever I can help, I am available. I can also make calls to restaurants or other places in St Louis you may need to reserve.
Whatever you need to help. let me know.
After having a few bad experiences at other get-togethers, I'd be for everyone bringing their own picnic lunch.

That would make it easier on people with restricted diets as well as not being a burden on the STL Club. Just a thought...
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
I'm so excited that you are EVEN entertaining the idea of having Sheepiepalooza 2011!!!!!!! We had so much fun at Sheepiepalooza 2009 that we would love to attend another one BUT I also know how much work that Judi and Val put into the event.

I love the idea of dinner/lunch at a dog friendly restaurant...it was a fun way to see some of the sites of St. Louis as well as literally stop traffic as people slowed down to see all the sheepies sitting so nicely on the patio while their uprights enjoyed some good food, laughter and conversation.

The agility was not only educational but a lot of fun to watch BUT I know it took a lot of time to organize and run so I agree it would be something that would have to be cut from the activities list.

I would really like to see the auction continue...its always fun watching Val bid on an item she really wants! :excited:

I would be more than willing to help out anyway that I can!!!
18 hour drive each way. But still very tempting...
Awww come on David...IF Barb, Oakleys Mom can get here...surely~~~you can~~~

If you have Sheepiepalooza WE WILL BE THERE!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :cheer: :cheer: I am ok with whatever you all decide about the events--I like the suggestions that you have made so far. Just getting together with all of you and the sheepies is a great time and you are right St. Louis is a great dog-friendly town. We loved it! I love the idea of two days of fun as it is a bit of a drive for just one day.

I would be willing to help if you want to delegate--
Forgot to answer the T-Shirt question-yes I would order T-Shirts and would be glad to help distribute them at the hotel. We would plan to arrive on Friday night--so we can help if need be!!

Can the t-shirts (for Mady of course) say "My dad drove me halfway across the continent and all I got was this t-shirt"? :D
Mark & I & howie are tossing around the idea of coming to Sheepiepooza. Mark is checking to see if he can get enough days off work so we can make the 12 hour drive. :crossed: Howie says he definitely has the time off to come and play.

I like the idea of bring your own picnic, make it easy for everyone. T-shirts for sure!
Can we have name tags? I'd bring them.

Thanks David and Peg...We will know more after the meeting next week. Then we can begin to plan and accept all of your kind offers to help!!!!

Amanda, I'm game. We'll talk as the time gets closer.
I can't fit all three dogs plus all my weekend stuff in the car for a 10 hour trip. Not only that, but all three of them as a group are obnoxious.

Plus, we're moving so we'll either be showing our house or getting out of it around that time so we can't go far. :(

We will really miss you, Jill!!!!
Since I am a rookie at this site, what is sheepiepaloza? I live in Minneapolis, MN and am wondering if this site is for sheepie show dogs or all sheepie? Are there any activities that take place here? Play dates, shows to go to etc? I have 2 OES and 1 Golden Retriever, all rescues. For all of the years I have been owned by them, over 35 years, it still surprises me what characters this breed is!! Goofey, Funny, too darn smart and how they never really mature. Not to mention their loyalty , companionship and actually very good protectors. I would appreciate any information. I am so glad I accidently found this site!!!!

Nancy...Welcome to the forum!!!!

Here is the link to Sheepiepalooza 2009!!!

viewtopic.php?t=23628

The event is held in St. Louis the weekend of Memorial Day!!! Sheepies from all over~~~ rescues, show..any sheepie and their "brothers and sisters" come to the LOU for two days of sheepie FUN!!!

There are quite a few from MN that attend....

We did not have Sheepiepalooza 2010 but we hope to do it this year. We will know more this afternoon.

Think about coming and joining the fun!!! As you can see by this thread, many forum people and their sheepies come for the funfilled weekend. It's great to meet the forum members up close and personal..but even better you will get to meet their puppers~~~~ :D :D :D
Nancy, I don't even HAVE a sheepie, yet how many thousand posts have I made here?????   Obviously everyone is welcome here.
Hi Nancy - and welcome from a fellow Minnesotan :high5:

We have gone each year - it's a great time. :D
So, what's the verdict on Sheepiepalooza 2011?
You guys did have your meeting yesterday, right?
The verdict is...... it IS happening.

Much as I outlined on the first page. The only thing is that we need to get a hold of the site for the picnic and a few other calls.

When we have the details we will post them. Probably within a month.

Then we will start a new thread.

Our meeting went very well.
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: Yippee!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

What great news!!
I thought the Sheepiepalooza plan discussed in our meeting was fantastic!!
Thanks Judi and Val!!

It was a blast meeting everyone before, and I am excited now to meet again!

I would like to say that the STLOES Club is a group with the BEST people around and EVERYONE helped with the last Sheepiepalooza in one way or the other and enjoyed it.

I don't know exactly what I am doing wrong, but I keep getting thrown out of the system. I would like to know a couple of pieces of information. Too bad I am so 'technology challenged'. Here goes..................
Is anybody going to sheepiepalooza from the Mpls., MN area that I could maybe follow there? I have a older vehicle and really not sure about going by myself with my 3 8 year old dogs, "Abbey and the Delinquents". 2 are on the obnoxious side and act like they are 2 years old? Can you guess who the obnoxious delinquents are? Also, are there any play date people in the Mpls. MN area? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nancy - I'm down by Mankato, and you can sure caravan with us.
Also, there is a TC OES Club - you should join! We have members who show and compete in stuff like obedience, rally herding, agility, some are therapy dogs, some are "just" pets (meaning there is no such thing as an OES being just a pet - they are Family!). We also will be having a booth at the TC Pet Expo in March, and we will be manning the booth with our dogs :D

We can certainly plan a playdate, but with weather like today, it's hard to think about. We are getting totally snowed on down here...again! :phew:
A couple years ago several of us got together at the Arkwright Park off Maryland and 35, but anywhere would work.
:go: :go: :go: :go: :go:

Woudn't it be GREAT for the various states to
CARAVAN to SHEEPIEPALOOZA??????

Then other sheepiepeople will be more inclined to come!!!!!!

:bulb: :bulb: :bulb: :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

Who else would like to jump on this bandwagon~~~~~
We certainly can and Nashville is a good central point for other's coming from the southeast. We know the way and would be glad to caravan!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ :clappurple: :clappurple: :high5: :high5: :high5:

I meant CITIES and/or STATES.....
Hi Dawn.........
What a fun idea caravaning would be! We might start something. Maybe we should converse more. It would be great to take Abbey and the Delinquents where they are welcome. Until the weather is better, maybe May, I don't see play dates happening. I remember the breeder I got 3 of my OES'S from years ago, talking about the TC Old English Club. Like many years ago. I would love to join. I guess I'll have to research and find on line.If you are at Pet Expo, I am going to try to find you. The rescue grupe I volunteer with, MARS, is going to be there. I have never been before and I do want to. If you would like to contact me, my e-mail is:tooterloodagoose@yahoo.com.

I got your email down, I'll add it in my address book, then send you one so you have mine.
And you won't find much online about the club, as we have the lamest little website...but we do have a facebook page, if you are on there.
If you drive down Mankato way at all, we could easily meet at The Paw ( www.thepawmankato.com ) where I teach classes and use the facility for a very small charge - indoors or out in the astroturfed play areas, or both. :D A nice option to have for cold weather playdates.
I tried looking for the club but it only shows up on facebook of which I am not part of. "Technologically Challenged", remember? I do not OWN a computer and just use the one at work. I attended Mankato State years ago so I kinda remember the way. Right now I am not planning any out of the area trips.
Sheepiepalooza sound like sooooooo much fun! Many caravans would be a GREAT IDEA!!!! I certainly am on this bandwagon!!!!!! Or, Renting busses!!!!! LOL.
Any e-mails? Anyone?
Nancy
Actually, 3 yrs ago, we caravaned from MN too.
Stephanie (sneakysheepie here) and her husband drove down to Mankato from near St Cloud the day before. Then we met near my house and followed each other down. It worked very well!

And a group of us from MN and WI and MO did the same thing last fall when we drove to the National show out in NY state. We never were super close (within an hour though, so close for a 17 hour drive!), but we talked and texted as we drove and updated each other... :D

We certainly can and Nashville is a good central point for other's coming from the southeast. We know the way and would be glad to caravan!

We are coming up from Florida. Depending on timing, we could meet in Nashville. Nashville is about 4 hours to St Louis?
We will begin to plan our route -- looks up thru Atlanta (maybe say hi to Tonks and Luna), then onto Nashville.
Not sure where we will stop for a night --
We can chat more on the new string later.
SOUNDS LIKE FUN!
It's an 1800km drive (1100 miles) for us. We bought Mady a nice car with a turbo. How bad are the cops on the way? :D If I can drive 85-90 mph...

It'll be a 2-day drive for us (ugh), if we go, I'd like to get the bulk of the driving done the first day. What is Dayton Ohio like? Make a nice overnight pitstop?

A little more time to St. Louis more like 5 hours--be glad to make arrangements to meet you and go from here! Chattanooga might be a good sleepover point from Fla - and is about 90 minutes from Nashville. Others??? We can make plans as time draws near!

I think there will be at least three couples coming from Ontario this year. For Sheepiepalooza 2009 we stopped 1/2 way, spent the night and then carried on to St. Louis. Planning on following the same route this year. We generally stuck to the speed limit......radar was frequent along the way...but we didn't hit any traffic like we are used to here in Toronto so it was a really pleasant trip!

Very doable and you can caravan all together and then we can meet the amazing Mady...and you too.
You people are a bad bad bad influence!!!! I had a very busy day at work and it was constantly interrupted with emails and phone calls from David either about Komondors or how we would swing going to Sheepiepalooza. Links to Mapquest, dog friendly hotels, and then he went in for the kill and sent me pictures of other years. Pictures of sheepdogs on paddle boats! That is just mean to taunt me with that!! I blame Val. No, I blame all of you!

Now where was that Mapquest link...
Come on Kim...you guys can swing it
ohhhhhkimmmmmmmm!!!!

I can tell you are a good sport!!!! And I can't wait to meet YOU...and Mady...and of course little Davie!!!!

Can you JUST imagine it???? You guys pull up and Mady gets out of the car...She see's Heart and Heart runs toward her..smiling :D :D :D :D !!!!!

"""oh, Mady!!! I have been waiting soo long to meet YOU!!! We have gabbed on the OES forum so much I feel like I know you!!!""
"'''Here, I have my suitcase full of BLING!!! Pick out anyone you want!! Want some sparkle spray???""""

""OH...and THAT is Harry!!"

((At THAT point, Mady does a double take of Harry as he 'winks' at her they run off into the sunset to play.....))

YOU HAVE GOT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!! SEE YOU AT SHEEPIPALOOZA!!!!!!!!!

:high5: :high5: :go: :go: :go: :high5: :high5:
Val, have you thought of writing romance novels?
:lmt:
Barbara, where did you stop half way back in 2009?
Fingerscrossed Mark & I and Howie will make the trip.

Sounds like too much fun to miss,

We stopped at the Comfort Inns in Pontiac IL on the way down and at Fairfield Inn in Joliet IL on the way home....both were pet friendly!!

Fingers and paws crossed here that you can make it this year!
Thanks I'll mark those places down. We're trying to get things in order so we can go and play.

If I'm not working a horse show Memorial Day weekend, I will be there!!!
It's a go for us! I've already put it on the calendar...

I would love to caravan with the Illinois OESers!!! I can't wait!! Is it May yet?!?!?!
Count us in. Phoebe and Winston have crates, will travel.
So now that I know we are going to see you all, which I still can't believe, what should I bring? What happens there? I still don't know where Missouri is, but I figure that is David's job, mine is to pack. What do I bring??
I was wondering the same thing? :lmt:
We are so excited too! :yay:

Hoping that we'll meet someone who can give us tips on brushing/grooming. We do our best but that leaves lots to be desired... I just thought I'd throw that into the conversation in case anyone is inclined to bring grooming supplies, tools, etc... Not that anyone with a sheepie would leave without them!!! Just call me Mrs. Obvious
