Springfield, NJ

If anyone lives nearby that would be willing to let us visit their sheep dog. Please let me know.

I started the above thread a couple of weeks ago and while I have recieved great advice, the only thing missing now is actually introducing my wife and 2 kids (9 and 5) to Sheepies. Hopefully someone is close by and we can spend sometime together soon. Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure I recall your timeframe, but a trip to the NEOESR Annual Picnic might be a great place to meet a hundred sheepies, mostly rescues. all at once!

The picnic is usually held in Western Massachusetts and is usually in June.
Place and date is already set!

Ron, We want to get our dog by the Spring. Anytime between April and June most likely. However we still could make the trip, one never knows! Thanks!
The Philly Picnic is earlier than June!
You may want to consider that one!
You guys aren't that far from NYC. Why not stop by and visit some of the dogs at Westminster Dog show? Quite a few of us from the message board will be there!
DS, we were thinking about this anyway however the family needs to spend time with a few Sheepies. Hopefully we can get a play date soon.
Many years ago, I lived in the Morristown area; not far from Springfield at all. Unfortunately, I've been wracking my brain and I cannot think of anyone witha sheepie in the area. St. Hubert's Giralda had a sheepie for adoption about 6 months ago ( i think) and they are in Madison. I had a contact that lived in Livingston with one, but I believe they moved, and that their sheepie may have passed away. :(

Have you checked the OESCA referral list? there are several breeders in New Jersey, and maybe one of them would welcome your family into thier home to meet their dogs. One is in Basking Ridge (which is a walk down memory lane for me; we lived in Basking Ridge with our OES when I was a small girl).

Thank you. Its strange that there is not many in our area. I guess we will be the first in our area. I spoke with someone a week or two ago who is nearby (around 30 min away) however they did not offer to have us over and I felt funny suggestiing. What would you do?

I'd ask. We're from NJ; people expect a certain amount of forwardness (rudeness?) from us! But I think people might be hesitant to invite a stranger to their home; I would be. Perhaps you could ask if they would be nice enough to meet with your family at a dog park. Then if they want to offer to invite you over, that would be their choice.

Also; this may sound strange, what about an ad on Craig's list? "Wanted: sheepdog owners willing to introduce my family to the joys of having an OES." And explain from there. Just a thought; I never use Craigs List so don't know if this violates any rules or not.

Also; just when you think you are the only sheepdog persona round, you'll meet tons in your area!!
Thanks for the advice and quick response. Not sure about the Craigs list thing but will try the other methods. We may drive out to Long Island in a few weeks as there is somone out there. Probably a 90 minute trip one way but definately worth it.
We will be getting our puppy in the middle of February and we are in NJ. We would be more then willing to meet you somewhere if you want to see a puppy. I am not sure if you want to see a puppy though. Sounds like you want to see the breed a bit older. Our other OES passed away at Thanksgiving---and if she was still here I would have you meet her in a second. She was a sweetheart and loved by all.

We are located in Hunterdon County (not that far away)

Sorry about your loss. Great to know you are quickly getting another Sheepie. Only proves that this is the best breed. I sent you a PM. We will get together soon. Thanks.
Hi there.

I am in Bridgewater and take Chowder to the dog park in Franklin, about 15 minutes away, pretty often. Feel free to PM me and we can pick a day for you to meet us there. When it gets to cold we can come back to my place so you can see her in the house.
Chowder is 1 year old and still very much puppy. She fits the typical excited and super nice sheepie personality.

We are right down the road from you if you are in Bridgewater! We are by Round Valley Reservoir! We will be getting our puppy in 4 weeks and we will have to plan on meeting you at some point. It would be fun to have the sheepies together for a playdate.

AWESOME! There is a huge dog park in Franklin we go to and I heard there is another one in Bridgewater. When the weather gets warm we should meet up

I am going to try and meet with the people getting the puppy at RounD Valley Resevoir, maybe you can come too
Our puppy is 6 weeks old today....so, we will have her in 2 weeks.
My name is Shari---the one by Round Valley Reservoir.
We should definitely set up a play-date. I need to review the situation with the vaccine schedule before bringing her to a dog park---or, someone here could probably educate me.
Last year we has a Meet & Greet at Cindy's (4dognight) place in Maryland in October. All you North Jersey folks aren't that much further than us in the GREAT State of South Jersey. If Cindy does it again this year it would be a nice chance for you to meet a bunch of the other Forum members and their Sheepie Buddies. As I recall we had NINETEEN BEAUTIFUL SHEEPIES running around and everyone really had a terrific time.
We were at Cindy's. It was fun! Chowder was the one with the mohawk. She has grown back now luckily.
My family met Chowder yesterday. She is a beautiful and tall sheepie. My kids loved her. We all loved her and now cannot wait for the month to pass to get Jaxson. My kids asked me 10 times already when he is getting here. LOL.

Thank you Arielle!!!
Tomorrow is the BIG DAY! We pick up Dahlia!! Pretty soon we can have a NJ get-together will all of her new sheepie friends!
Congrats and best wishes for your family! :clappurple:
Not a problem! I like helping out. Any questions, just let me know.

I didn't know Chowder was such an actress until yesterday. Chowder knows to sit and even lay down before meeting someone. Thing is, she never really got back up. She barely jumped which she loves to do with new people and just hung around to get pet and eat sticks. I must have said at least 10 times "This is not normal sheepie behavior!" I don't even think she put someone's hand in her mouth which has become one of her favorite things to do no matter how often we say no. She did show off her herding instincts though, trying to keep the kids close to the pack.

Good luck! Can't wait to see pictures.
Shari, soooo exciting for you huh??? After the few speed bumps along the road tomorrow is the day. Can't wait to be in your shoes next month. Best of Luck!

Arielle, She was great. Like you said the minute my daughter or son stepped away from the group Chowder was like ummm where are you going, get back in the circle..... lol.

We'll all talk soon and get together in a few months with our dogs. Since I am the last one in the group, getting Jaxson end of March then we should be able to play in April / May.
