Growth Expectancy

Hello,

We have had Ollie for a few weeks now and took him to get his shots yesterday. The vet said that most dogs are half their adult weight by 4 months (which is about what Ollie is.) He only weighed 20 pounds so the vet doesn't even think he will hit 50 pounds. I have always thought OES's were closer to the 70-80 pound range. Ollie's mom is about 70 pounds and his dad is about 100 so I was expecting at least 80 pounds from him. How big are your OES's and do you remember what they were around 4 months old?

It think our Howie was about 25 lbs at 4 months. He just turned 9 months old and weighs almost 75 lbs. I do remember at 6 months it seemed as though Howie was growing right before our eyes.

I do not know if this is the norm or not, just my experience.

The important thing is that your puppy is healthy and at a weight that matches his size and proportions. Have you talked with the breeder to see how big the other puppies in the litter are? But even that doesn't always prove helpful. My son was just telling me that his 6 month old Boxer pup got together with a littermate over the weekend... they're about the same weight but she's taller/leaner, he's shorter/fatter with a big head. It will be interesting to see the comparison at 12 and 18 months.

As for weights...
Bumble's about 2 1/2 years old. At 5 months of age he weighed 45 pounds which was about half his adult weight of 91 pounds.

Kobuck is 2 1/4 years old... at 4 months he was 24 pounds and at 5 months he was 35 pounds. His adult weight is 62 pounds which is a good weight for his size and proportions. So it looks like for these two anyway, the adult weight was about 2 times their weight at 4 1/2 to 5 months of age.
Uh, for our dogs, the weight at 4 months wasn't even close to 1/2 of what they ended up weighing. Closer to 35%. Oscar and Quincy were both around 40 lbs at 4 months, and both were over 110 lbs full grown. Quincy was a little chubby (hypothyroid), but Oscar is at a really nice weight at 115 lbs.

(Oscar was 20 lbs at 10 weeks. :D )

My female OES was 28 lbs. at four months. She is seven months old now and last we weighed her she was 54 lbs. The breeder predicted she would max out around 63 lbs.
same here, cappi was tiny at 4mths (also had been poorly) but he is now 13mths and 70lbs, apparently his dad was enormous so we have a bit to go.

dippy is 20weeks and 28lb (also has been poorly, both giardia) but i think she is going to be a big girl, her structure is more solid than cappi's and her front paws are huge.

i was constantly monitoring cappi's weight hoping he would catch up, but the main thing is is he is a big healthy boy and a slow gain is much better for him. if an oes doesnt mature until 18mths how can anything at 4mths be an indication?
Oh my goodness. I wonder what weight Lily will be. 8O

Her first check up and shots at 8 weeks she was 17lbs
at 10 weeks she was 21lbs
and at 13 weeks she is 25lbs
We are finally picking up our puppy tomorrow!! I am so excited.

We were told that that all 7 pups in the litter were between 16-18 lbs at 7 weeks and tomorrow they will be 8 weeks old.

Wow them are some big pups! I have a male Dallas that is 10 wks and he weighs about 22 lbs now. My female is 11 months old and she only weighs 55 lbs. So I think Dallas will be a lot bigger than her. Are you getting a male or female?
Dahlia at 8 weeks was 19.5lbs.
At 11 weeks: 25.5 lbs.
The vet told me to expect about a 2-3 lbs per week weight gain.
She is a big and tall puppy.
Wow, big puppies. Libby was 10 lbs at 8 wks and is 39 lbs now at 5 months. As was mentioned in an earlier post, they do seem to grow overnight. Like my kids when they were growing up, I love every stage, even the rotten ones because they pass by so quickly.
Yesterday's Vet Appt:
Dahlia at 14 weeks:
32 lbs
When she comes out of the crate in the morning, she looks bigger!
Just bumping this thread......
Lets see.....

Schubert's weight
7 weeks: 11.5lb
10 weeks: 17lbs
3 mo: 23lbs
4 mo: 31lbs
I recall people insisting we feed Tonks and Luna a specific Large breed puppy food; saying it was important that they have a slow, even growth and I think because of that they really did get to their final weights very slowly. I recall them being tiny- like 65 pounds at 18 months and even 24 months. But they continued to fill out, and even added some height after that, and now their healthy weights (Tonks has been sick and is really underweight and Luna is on a diet to lose weight) are about 75 and 82 pounds.
Dahlia just turned 10 months old on Monday. She is now 75lbs, and between 26-27in tall. The tape measure makes her go crazy so I can't get her to stand still when I have it. She has quite a large bone structure and is much larger then our last sheepie.
Hiya!!!

At 4 months bloo was (i think) 18kg, which is 39lb, 2 and half stone.

Bloo is now 7 months old, took him to be weighed for worming tablet he was 22kg!!! Which is 3 and half stone, 48lb! I was shocked hes spurted up so fast! :D :twitch:
Charm is ten months old and weighs 55 lbs. At 17 weeks, she weighed 26.7 lbs. Her breeder said she would be 55-65 lbs when fully grown.
Millie was 43lbs at 4 months, so doubled would be 86lbs! :twitch: Not sure she will get that big. She is 65lbs now at 14 months old. I guess time will tell.
