INTRODUCING.....Sol....or Pi....formerlly Dixie!!!!!

WE finally have the rescue I have been trying to get since October!!!

She is the sweetest, cutest, sweetest pupper~~~

Here is the SCOOP!!!!!

My daughter Maureen was going to take 'Dixie' renamed Pi!!!! (pie as in pizza))

Well, her alpha female, Domino, had other plans. Domino did not like her and it was very evident that she could not stay...

Soooooo.....I took her to my other daughter, Joey, who has been looking for a dog for a while..(not a sheepie..... :twitch: :twitch: :twitch: a golden)..but...She saw Dixie and I think fell in love with her sweetnes...so she going to see how it goes....

BUT~~~~~ I have fallen in love with this really, really, sweetie!!! She is a little shy, but I can see she works through it very nicely. She know basic commands...and really loves Heart!! Soooo....IF it doesn't work out with Joey...I am taking her..I HAVE to...and I will rename her SOL....(as in Heart and Sol (sun).....

I think fate has dealt me a lemon (with it not working out for Maureen..))) And I am making LEMONCELLO!!!!!!!! :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

I should know within a few days what is really going to happen.....

Sorry it didn't work out with Domino. I bet the girls were sad :(

I hope Joey enjoys her...or YOU if she ends up back with you and Dino.

I think you are really, truly hoping it doesn't work out and you can keep her. I hope so too.
If Heart says OK, then there's always room for another sheepdog. Just ask Jaci.
What a pretty pretty girl!
:aww: :aww: :aww: what a sweet looking girl!! Hope it all works out as you want it too! :hearts: :hearts:
:aww: :aww: :aww:

Yeah, you got the pupper!!  She looks like such a sweetie! I love the name. Heart and "Sol"! But wheter its with yoiu or your duaghter, we know she has a great home now - out of that garage

Welcome to the good life . Sol...or Pi...formerlly Dixie!
She's adorable!! :aww:
She's gorgeous. Congratulations to you all.

It never ceases to amaze me how life can completely turn around for a rescue from one day to the next. Now she's loved and wanted by THREE families...so no matter what her life will be awesome. I just keep thinking of her, sad and lonely, a day ago, with no idea what a wonderful thing was just around the corner.

Virtual hugs to you and the beautiful SolDixPi...
She is really cute. I can see how she enchanted you.

This story is as interesting as all the television shows I watch.

:cheer: I love it Val! I'm so happy for Pi/Sol! She is a beautiful pup and I'm sure with your experience and love, you will break her out of her shell easily.

Another sheepie saved, moving onto a wonderful life...what a wonderful way to start the day!

More Pictures, Please!

So happy to hear that she is safe with you and your family....no matter who she ends up living with, she's going to have lots of people to love her.
Can't wait to see pictures of her and her new "bling"!
Yeah!!!! This is how I got my first sheepie...she had been a year in a backyard in Alaska...matted, lonesome and ever so sweet! I took her to get cleaned and didn't believe it was the same dog once they shaved her down and cleaned her up...she was always so sweet and the love she gave everyone was priceless...she became my shadow and just loved being inside and loved. So glad you're giving this sweetie a chance at being loved! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
What a lucky, lucky girl!!!!! :clappurple:

Laurie and Oscar
How wonderful you could help this young girl to a new life.
I'm sorry and concerned it didn't work out for Maureen and Kenya however! I'm sure Joey and the kids will make it work if it's meant to be.
UPDATE ON DIXIE!!!!!!! (if this all works, I think Joey will keep her name!!!))

She is at Joey's....And is perfect ...so far...(although it has been only 2 days)

She is pacing a lot, so it is hard to tell if she has to pee/poop or is just a pacer. She peed on the hardwood on Saturday and Sunday....but Joey has great cleaning skills (NOT like her mom... )

A learning experience for that whole family.

When they ate dinner last night. Dixie went to her tuffet and laid down..NO begging!!!!

She is very good with the kids.

Gia and Leo run back and forth in the kitchen/living room area and Dixie chases them..she IS mouthing their sleeves, but...the kids have been told when she starts that, to just go and sit down and ignore her. It has been working ..so far.

Haley came home from her weekend with her dad and was soo happy to have a dog!!! She has never been crazy about mine, but, as she said when I talked to her,,,,"Grammie...she is so perfect and we finally have a family dog!!! I LOVE HER!!!""" :yay: :yay:

She is a typical puppy and just loves to play with anyone, anything...she likes the cats but does not hurt them. If this works out, I would love to take her to meet Harry and really have a great fun time with him...(Heart will be soooo jealous!!!!)..

She has no resource guarding issues...Leo is putting his hands in her food dish while she is eating and they are petting her while she eats to get her used to hands...(they will be leaving her alone to eat..just needed confirmation that she would not nip when around her food).

She seems very perfect at this point...but I am waiting until she gets more comfortable with her possible new home.

Joey put her tuffet on her side of the bed last night and Dixie slept ALL night. She finally peed in their back yard!!! WHOO-HOO...( I think now she will have her scent in the yard and maybe be more comfortable.)

Joey, Dixie and the kids came over yesterday morning and all the dogs played. Dixed pooped 2 times and peed once in the my yard, so that is great!!! She has to be taught to play with dog toys..she has never had any. So I gave her a tennis ball and that dog mind game....

She has bonded with Joey... She always has her eye on her..guess she is waiting to be left again... She has become park of the 'pack' and so far, has accepted that she is the low person on the totem pole.. She is really warming up to Lenny..

She seems to have a little ear problem going on, she is shaking and scratching her left ear, so we pulled the hairs out and I put some ear med from Coz ..it seemed better.

Cookies were on the coffee table as the kids watched cartoons...and she did not touch them at all.

She is sitting for Joey to get her leash on. She gives paw and she sits up (like Pearl use to)...She doesn't mind being touched anywhere, she sits for beard wiping.... She is great while being brushed. Joey had to cut a couple of really bad, bad mats off of the bottom of her ears. I trimmed her nails with NO issues..she is very relaxed.

She seems a little obsessed with drinking water...maybe be a nervous thing...but since Joey tends to be obsessive, I think it is a match made in heaven.

They want to keep her a few days and then make a decision. If they decide to keep her, AND she is not spayed..... I will pay for spaying...but obviously, I don't want to do it if they decide this isn't right for them. (maybe this is wrong of me...but money is tight...  )

Guarded optimism at this point. Leo seems to really love her... and you can see that Dixie loves him too!!! will keep you posted...

I am concerned that they do not have a fenced in yard, but Joey is always walking and running and exercising, so, hopefully this will not be something that can't be overcome. Add to that, a fence is going up in the spring!!! Any thoughts on this??? How many sheepie owners do not have a fence???? Just curious????

The final test is leaving her while Joey runs the kids to school this morning....Dixie has not been left alone since she arrived, so I am hoping she has no separation issues! :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: ...She has never been crated and seems to be a very soft dog (like Heart) so I don't know if crating will help or do more damage...any thoughts????

Thanks for everyone's positive thoughts.........kind of clueless at this point...

and I will never do this again.....I can't handle sad, sweet eyes and knowing that they have no where to go!!!!! I am such a mushmush....

Sure seems like things are going well. I hope it all works out and Dixie has a permanent home.
:clappurple: She sounds like a charmer. :D

We do not have a fenced-in yard (not allowed because of golf course). I just bundle up and take Oscar out, always leashed. I'm not sure a rescue would place a deaf dog with me because of my "fence-free" status :D, but I would never, ever risk Oscar's life by being too lazy to take him out myself on a leash.

Love how you said this! Perfect for the situation.

I'm happy for her and agree she is very lucky!
Sounds like all is going well :D She really does sound like a love :hearts: Good luck the next few days.
We live in a townhouse with no yard. Izzie is always on a leash when we go out for any reason. It has actually become an issue when we visit people with fenced yards. She won't go out without us

When I first rescued Murphy, the duplex I was living in didn't have a fenced yard, so I always went out with him, he would be on a leash just in case I needed to grab him fast.

No that my home has a big huge backyard that is completely fenced.. he will not go outside unless I am with him.. I can't even stand at the back door and watch him.. I have to be out there with him ;-)
I've never had a fenced yard.
Brick goes out on a long, thick cable. I use stainless steel removable chain links to attach the cable to the ground anchor (not the screw in type but the pound in type, with rotating legs that prevent the anchor from coming out) and to attach the cable to him. He has a penchant for getting the cable clasps open and shaking the cable off. Don't know how he does it but it's happened. But not with the removable chain links. Can't shake free from those.

I put Zeke on the same cable when I had him. They couldn't go out together, but they didn't seem to mind.
Zeke never shook the cable off.

Dixie looks great, by the way. Congrats to you and Joey.
Our Daisey was on a leash as a puppy when we moved to 3 acre lot...as she got older she would walk the property line in the am and take care of business come back to front porch and would stay there...we had no fence and she stayed near the house. When we moved to a fenced in backyard we had to go with her for weeks as she was scared to go outside with a fence. She thought it was a treat to let her sit in the front yard with no fence watching people come and go! I guess it's whatever they get used to...I could never trust my two tibetan's off leash or without a fence...they'd go after anything that moved and then would discover they're lost.
I am so glad that you were ableto get her and find it a home, Val you are my hero. :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

Hope that everything keeps going ok :D
:crossed: :crossed: Fingers crossed that everything continues to go well!!!
PROBLEM...(at least we have one....she seems so perfect!!)...

She has bonded to Joey in such a short time. Joey had to leave for a little while and, although Haley was home (with a cold) and Lenny was in the bedroom, as soon as Joey left, Dixie began to cry and scratch the couch at the window. She did calm herself, but when Joey came back home, Dixie went crazy...jumping, twirling, trying to knock Joey down.

I told Joey to ignore her until she calms down, but, that is kind of impossible with a dog jumping in your face, and trying to get attention...but THIS is where the work begins!!!

Joey went to my house and picked up Heart to spend the day with Dixie, showing her how to behave.....    ((who is going to show Heart???)...but Dixie seems calmer when Heart is there, so I don't think its a bad thing to rent Heart out at this point!!!!! :D :D

more to come!!!!!! :lmt: :lmt: :lmt: :lmt: :lmt:
hum sound like heart needs to bring sol --dixie home with her 8O
Ryleigh sorta came from the same situation. she was left in backyard with no one to play with, family even moved out and left her there. She was 7 months when we got her. Not housbroken, had no clue what a toy was, and just wanted constant attention. It took awhile to housbreak her, she had MANY accidents  but we worked through it. Took several months before she new what to do with a ball, but I was a proud mom first time she brought it to ME to play. Still wants constant attention (but thats a sheepie thing). We do have to crate her when we leave, because when she gets bored she like to shred paper. Ive had to pay for a couple of school books already. And she still gets very excited when we get home. Jumping,circleing...but we just turn our back to her and say no jump, it takes awhile but she starts to settle down. We have had her for 5 months now, and she just turned a year on Jan 4. It takes awhile to learn her signs and for her to learn ours but we are both still working on it. :D
It also took several months before Ryeligh would go in the backyard by herself. (we do have a fenced yard) . Even now I have to stand at the door and she will pee facing me so she can keep an eye on me. I really think she is scared she will be locked out and left again.
Hope things work out. Dont give up on the baby just remember how long she went without love and attention.

Good luck to all of you. :ghug:
Tiggy never got upset when I or Wayne left but she did go crazy when we got home despite not being a rescue.

She would bark and spin and jump all over us. Poor Rastus hated it, he has sensitive ears and he hated the noise and couldn't get near us for the hairy whirlwind.

I tried and tried all sorts of things, ignoring her and shutting the door on her but then she just jumped on the door and scratched at it. I tried asking her to go to her bed, are you mad I'm jumping on you. In the end when she was around 2 years old and it was still happening I resorted to a little squirt of water in her face and it took about 2 weeks and now she's a good girl. She still rushes the baby gate but no barking or jumping. Rastus is soooo happy.

Don't squirt Dixie though, it's too early and she is still becoming pack but at least there are lots of options
Heart does the same thing Tiggy does...but..I guess I am so use to it, it doesn't bother me....

Here is the scenerio:::

I open the front door...I have a baby gate to keep them in the kitchen and family room area. Heart will begin to bark as soon as she hears the door. I unhook the babygate, and Coz is trying to lick my hand, Pearl is about 3 feet away from me, staring at me..and HEART????? Well, she is barking, barking, barking....she is doing 'donuts' in front of me as I am walking to the back door....IF Coz dares to get close to me...the SHURTLE emerges......to STRIKE!!!!!!! ..............((and my daughter is asking me how to stop a little jumping and happines from an 11 month old sweetie????~~~~ I will trade Heart in a New York second with Dixie's homecoming routine!!)..... :twitch: :twitch: :twitch:
Yep it's a case of Heart giving Tiggy lessons again!!

Tiggy didn't shurtle Rastus exactly but she would lunge at him, jump on him and bark in his ear because she KNOWS how much he hates it. In the end he would just stand back and look really sad. That's part of the reason why I was so keen to stop the behaviour.

Your right the Dixie welcome sounds pretty tame.
A DIXIE TALE""""""

My 6 year old granddaughter, Gia, was in the bathroom this morning going poo....

According to my Joey...Dixie went into the bathroom and poop right next to Gia!!!!!

GOTTA LUV THEM SHEEPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When in doubt, follow the packs lead.
She sounds like a wonderful dog.

I just hope that when the novelty wears off that Joey doesn't wonder how the heck SHE ended up getting a dog that her sister wanted and her mom couldn't say no to.

I am counting on Dixie worming her way into Joey's heart. Tell Joey that this baby really needs a mommy right now after having no attention. Honestly, under the circumstances I expect the clinginess will be worse than with most Sheepies.

BTW I nominate Joey for Sister/Daughter of the Year Award.

More Dixie Tales please!!
Next thing you know, Gia will be showing Dixie how to poop in the backyard? 8O :D

Laurie and Oscar, who thankfully never required a doo-doo "show and tell"
I wouldn't worry too much about the freaking out at the window thing (and jumping upon return). Rudy was a lot like that when we first got him, and he had regular freak outs if you sent him out in the yard to pee and closed the door. I think he figured you'd never open it again. It was annoying in the dead of winter, but we got through it.

We were patient, and worked through it all with him, and it lasted a while, but gradually stopped. This is probably something that, in time, will be better. She's just so happy to be loved right now, and is probably terrified of losing what she just found.

We're all cheering for you here Dixie. Good girl for learning so much. (Rudy's behaviour improved a lot in the last month...and we're coming up on a year...with those who haven't gotten what they needed as pups it just takes longer I think. She's doing lots of good stuff so far. Not being in a house as a puppy makes everything she has to learn a new thing.) Sounds like she's very sweet and eager to please.

Have a wonderful life Dixie...you deserve it!
