Who's Going to Westminster?

Westminster is coming up again; anyone here going? Adam and I are supposed to go for the first time! I'm VERY excited!

You know we are. Entry is in, room is booked at the hotel (and I'm staying a few days with a friend, as well). I'm really excited, too. Owen'll enjoy tromping around the city. Even better, when I want to go shopping, I can leave him outside the store with James and James will get to be surrounded by people that want to pet Owen and he'll get to tell them that Owen was at Westminster, blah, blah, blah. It'll keep them both busy so I can shop uninterrupted.
I did know you were going, but I didn't want to blow your surprise, if it was one. Where are you planning on shopping? I used to live in NYC, though its been years, and we visit at least once a year; let me know if I can point you in the direction of anything in particular!

Anyone else coming into town???
I was thinking about heading down for the day... How much is a room nearby (the Pennsylvania without a dog, I guess) if any are still available?
Not me :(

We do have a fun show this weekend - in downtown St Paul, and it's the largest show in MN. It's at the home of the MN Wild (hockey) and the MN Roller Girls - roller derby as well.

I'm just a spectator this year - a first for me!

I came to this show as a child, when it was a benched show. I made the front page of the St Paul paper on the bench with Tawny - one of our Brittanies!
My mom sewed almost all our clothes (she really can sew - she even made my wedding dress), and I remember one year me, my mom and my 2 younger sisters all had matching dresses. They were A-line dresses, white with yellow polkadots. My mom even wore white gogo boots!! OK, this WAS the '60's! I remember my dad saying something about he was glad we all matched, so if us kids got lost, he would be able to find us

Years later, I showed my GSD Jenny in obedience for one of her CD legs there, and I was VERY pregnant with the twins...
It was a pretty local show, so I decided I could gamble on it. I was pretty huge with the twins, and my poor man judge about lost it. He gave me the world's shortest fast time.

LeAnne showed Chewie there for his 1st show - and took Winners Dog, and I was showing Simon in rally and we Q'd and took 3rd place in our class - fab for a basset!

We've showed there each year since, and now will be my 1st spectator year. BUT, I do intend to do lots of vendor shopping!! :clappurple: :clappurple:

That is so hilarious!! :D

Ugh, expensive. I think $214/night? I don't think that's outrageous for a NICE hotel room but the Penn isn't much more than a Super 8. :(

Lol. Nope, no surprises-- the real surprise will be if we win anything! I couldn't remember if I mentioned that we were going here but it definitely isn't a secret. I'm just looking forward to the experience no matter what happens.

Thanks for the offer, Allison, I may take you up on it, especially toy stores (vinyl, that is). I have a good friend in the city and we always shop like crazy when I visit. I also order online from so many places that I know where everything is. The hardest part when I'm there is just plain old wayfinding when I'm there. I know what I want but I have to figure out the right way to get there! One of my favorite places to visit in person in NYC is Uniqlo in Soho. It's like the Asian H&M and everything's cute but super cheap.

Hey, they're across the street from MSG!

I'll check them out. Thanks!
I am going to try to get up there this year. Fingers-crossed that work won't be too crazy. Just will be day-tripping.

Ron, you may want to try Priceline to get a deal on a hotel. Pennsylvania hotel is quite crappy, although they did do some renovations recently and maybe you would get a nicer quality room without a dog...

Dawn, I think we need to see that newspaper photo of you!

I'll try and find it soon. I was kinda cute - I think I was about 4 yrs old! :cow:
nope.............nada.............
Hoping that by that time i've had my surgery ....... (praying praying praying)
and waiting on puppies....

even if the above, i have no desire to go to NYC again In Feb. Something is telling me if you think the week of Christmas was bad snow wise, just wait. It's a La Nina year afterall..........

Would rather spend my $$ for Belize or St. Bart or St Kitts.

LOL It is hot and steamy in the brushing area!!!
We are going! Dogless. Butterscotch, I didn't know you were entered. I will look for you..but, pm me with your "real name" and name of dog  so I can look for you!
I don't mind sharing so I'll just post it here in case anyone else would like to stop by and say hi. I'm Jill Wurm and Owen is CH Ken-Bear's Master of his Owen Domain. I will more than likely be the only almost 6 foot tall redhead with a sheepdog so we'll be pretty easy to spot. I *think* I might be wearing a red dress on the day we show but that could change (especially since I'll be getting to NYC a couple days before and will have time to shop!).
I'll be dogless; I'm the 5 foot tall red head trying to walk away with Owen!!! :D
I'm going and will be cheering on Cuatro's older brother and now Owen too :cheer: :cheer:
Good description, Jill!!
And it's true - anyone can find you if they look for the tall redhead with an OES!

...and stylish shoes too...can't forget the shoes. :clappurple:
ron,
can you video the redhead wrestling match at westminster this year? and hold owen's leash please. :twitch:

Now the pressure is on re the shoes you know....
I will look for you Jill! Where are you staying? Keep an eye on the NY weather as we've been having a snow mess in the City and walking can be hazard! Be sure to bring along some snow boots if you are walking from your hotel - and some for owen s his feet don't ge messy!
I was thinking about the SHOES...TOO~~~~

Jill ~~~

CHECK IT OUT~~~~~~~~~~

he's got some great looking...""Westminster perfect""Shoes on his site!!!!!!

:yay: :excited: :clappurple: :clappurple:
:ghug:
I'm staying at the Penn across the street and with a friend for a couple of the days that I'm there. I'll be at the Penn for the show days since the walk is the shortest. Owen and I always travel with boots so we're good there. Owen will probably be wearing boots that whole week so his feet don't get terrible!

Val, if I'm ponying up for Louboutins, I'm getting some sky high heels. I can't waste that investment on flats! I have a few options but, as a whole, it's hard to get excited about dog show shoes. I might wear flat knee high boots if I can get away with it...

I've already changed my mind and I might wear a suit, but it'll be a burnt red so I'll still be easy to spot.
Cole Haan is having an excellent shoe sale right now; some very nice flat boots available!
Jill, Oh My !!!!! We need to shop!!!!! Did you know I was a retail clothing buyer by trade? Now I live out of catalogs! Haven't worked in years, but love to still shop! Will be there with Apolo.

Now you need to know to take comfy shoes for after the ring!!!! You can't sit anywhere. Except this year you have his table to sit on!!! I'm hoping for what I'm paying my handler , it includes dogsitting so I can go have a drink! Win or lose it is a blast!
There's no way I'm sitting around in a suit all day-- I always bring another outfit to change into for every show! If I have to sit on a grooming table, I like to wear pants. :)
Yes.... this year you bench and groom in the same place. We were benched in rows last year, with no place to sit , unless the cube next to you was empty. No luck there! I will be in another section though. I did multi benching with Stacy. What day are you arriving????? We are going saturday evening. Need to set up Sunday. If you need any info just hollar!! I'm doing comfy comfy! But I don't need to show a dog! :D
if your staaying at the Penn...........make sure you take something to kill the bugs in the room. Seriously put your luggage in the bathtub/shower do NOT lay it on the carpet or on a luggage rack even!

THINK BED BUGS...........
OH for those that are going..........for something else to do in NYC.......
Check out www.skyauction.com you can get some pretty good deals for braodway, resturants etc.
When i took Duncan, Joy and i stayed at the Mayflower. It is NOT within walking distance but was very nice......allowed the dogs. We had a small kitchenette and Central Park was across the street for walking the dogs.
Woo hoo! I booked our hotel and airfare today. Adam and I will be staying at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers-- its across the street from DC Comics so Adam can drop in on his editors and get "work" done. Not as claose to the Garden, but we stayed there last year and liked it. We're arriving on Sunday evening, and flying out Wednesday evening. I was able to book our tickets using points, so I don't feel quite as bad about how expensive the hotel is! Who wants to grab a dinner on Sunday night???? This is one of my favorite NYC restaurants, and they are open 24 hours! From The Garden, expect about a $9 cab ride:
