How are you spending the last day of 2010?

This is a bit late for some of you  , as the UK's, Europe and Aussies are at or onto the new year already!

Just thought I'd see what others are doing on this last day of the year. :D

As you likely guessed - not much here right now!
I'm at work, the usual 12 hr shift. I'm exactly halfway done, off at 7pm.
I would have been off today, but I needed to trade for last Sunday to have our Finch Christmas off. So, it works.

Todd decided to host Finch New Years at our house tonight.....yep. 8O Decided on last Sunday.
I worked Monday, had a deadly migraine Tuesday. So I cleaned and prepped Wed and yesterday, as much as I could.
He's making the cheesy turkey (already done), and I sent him to get the last minute stuff. People will be there by the time I get off work, so I hope all goes well. It is potluck food and drinks, so not a ton of food prep needs to be done.

I'm actually most concerned about the weather - we're in an advisory, and on the borderline for freezing rain vs. snow. Should be interesting! The advisory expires at 6am tomorrow....

Ready or not, 2011 is almost here!

2011 has arrived here! :cheer:  :clappurple: :high5: :excited:

Spent new years eve day in doors with air con on as it made it to 107 degree Farenheit here. Watched DVD's; old soprano episodes; cooked a BBQ and drank French champagne. A little bit Aussie, a little bit French for New Years.

We went to bed early but neighbours over the back fence were letting of fireworks  so we ended up with one panic stricken dalmatian who made Tiggy scared. Wayne went and slept in the spare bed as Rastus and Tiggy kept jumping on the bed and landing on my recuperating hip  Rastus leaned up against Wayne and trembled all over, Tiggy sat on his head and panted.

We eventually got to sleep when all the fireworks stopped, so we both feel like we stayed up for new years anyway. 8O :?
Happy New Year Mim! We still have another 7 and a half hours to go....

I spent today, the last day of the year, shopping for some overhead lights and bath fixtures while my contractor worked on redoing my laundry/mudroom...cleaned the bathrooms, dusted the house and other cleaning...Its a day off work today for me so I need to use every minute to its full advantage!

Not a big lover of New Years Eve here. Just an early dinner out with some friends at our usual pub style restaurant and home to the dogs. But I sort of hate to see 2010 leave. I don't like "odd" years.

Hey Dawn, we are hearing and seeing all sorts of snow blizzards in your area. Bet you're glad the party is at your house so you don't have to drive! be safe and enjoy the festivities!
Tonight~~~I thought Dino and I were going to go to dinner and relax then maybe go on the boat for while to ring in the new year and go home.

BUT....

I think I will be PEARL WATCHING instead!!! And I don't mind at all!!! Just wanting to be sure the vestibular episode is really over. So, far she is doing fine. Sleeping from the meds. So...I am going to take a nap and we'll see how she is feeling when 'we' get up!!!!

Tomorrow~~~ we are having our annual ANANIA New Years dinner with the kids, grandkids and granddogs!!! Ham and Ravioli, our traditional first day of the year meal!!!!!!!! :excited: :excited: :excited:

(Dawn...hope you don't get the snow/sleet...we are having tornados here...in DECEMBER????????)

EVERYONE~~~~~~~~~~HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! FROM ALL OF US IN ST. LOUIS!!!!

:cheer: :cheer: :excited: :yay: :yay: :cheer:
:ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
Nothing going on here either. Boiled some shrimp and Carl will have his raw beef so that's the extent of our partying.

We have been having warm temps and drizzle for the last 2 days, snow has melted quite a bit but tonight it will drop a lot. I am worried about the driveway, it's gravel on a hill and about 400 ft from the road so might be very slippery tomorrow. Probably be spending New Year's day sanding.

I don't care for odd years either but do wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Suzi: I'm so sorry about your truck, geez! I hope 2011 treats you kinder. :ghug:
Another 4 hours to go here.I'm sat in front of the log burner with the dogs ,hubby and mam and dad having a nice quiet drink. At 12 the fire works will start and all the ships out at sea ,waiting to dock, will start to blast their horns to welcome in the New Year :D

Happy New Year Everyone : :cheer:
Today I started to put some of the Christmas Deco away. I leave the trees for last, but the others get cleaned and put away. Hubby is off for the next 4 days so enjoying his company. I did go up to Walgreens and used the few coupons I have that are expiring today. :D
I've put in my order for Pizza and just going to relax today. I'm not sure if there will be fireworks in the neighborhood, they upset Violet.

We're having a beautiful day here, the temps are finally close to normal so I have the windows open and I'm back in shorts. Tomorrow we are going to Barbecue some steaks for our New Year's meal.

Happy New Year to all that are already in 2011 and Happy New Year to all moving in that direction!
I wish someone would put away all our Christmas decor!!! I have a million things to do before the baby comes, and my back went out!!! The only thing I seem to be capable of doing is folding clothes on the floor (putting away one size of clothes and putting new ones for the boys and kids in their drawers). ...of course the sitting on the floor for the past 3 hrs folding clothes is terrible for the back. I have to scream for the kids or husband whenever I want the next box. Not too exciting here! :cow:
Started the day by eating breakfast, surfed the net a bit, read some more of the book "Overhaul", and cleaned up some dog poop.
It's warm here today (thermometer in the Blazer says 53), so the melting snow has exposed alot of poop.
Ate lunch and then took Brick to the dog park and just got back.

Gonna head to the store to get something for a party I'm going to later. Then I'm heading over my aunt's for a small family get together before going to said party.

Happy New Year!!

PS: Val (and Judi & the rest of our St. Louis area members), I hope the bad weather didn't harm anything out your way.
We are experiencing +5' C today with a bit of rain...snow is all gone. Mark, Howie & I went for a good hike, a muddy one. The field had patches of icy water, Howie went running across the field, hit the ice and his legs gave out. Howie's butt was soaken wet, he was a bit shocked!

Since the weather is so warm Mark and I are about to hang a gate 8O . We installed the chain link fence at the end of September but never did get around to doing the gate. Howie is not a runner, so the gate has just been leaning in place. I guess if Howie wanted to get out we would have been more motivated to get the gate installed sooner. :lmt:

So I have figured out the gate hardware and I am ready to go get it done before the new year.
I am the handy one in the family. Mark is great at the set up, clean up and holding things!

Tonight we will lounge on the couch with a movie and good food.

Wishing everyone all the best for the coming up year.
peg, mark & muddy howie
Pretty much same as any other day -- on the couch. But instead of The People's Court I'm watching a House marathon.
Boy, not much. Still in my jammie because they are warm! While 27 outside the wind is nasty. The storm bringing tornados tonight in the mid south was thru here yesterday chilling everything down.

A run with the Dyson and 2 canister unloads.....and two loads of laundry has been my domestic bliss for the day. A shower is probably in order now. DH will feed the pups and birds so I think I have time.......anyway I hear him busy with the nut cracker......that will keep him busy for awhile.

Nothing planned for the rest of the day. Soup for dinner and then settle in with Kindle....if I have something interested on there.

Dawn, you might have overnight guests. All those still waiting for New Year's.....stay safe and warm.

Ready or not, 2011 is almost here!

Dawn: What is the cheesy turkey thingy that Todd makes?
I've got the days off until tuesday. it's still 30 minutes to go to New Year 2011. Max is with his girlfriend so I'm alone at home with Charlie. I fell asleep already at 6.30pm in front of the tv then woke up cause someone send me a message on my mobile.

So I've got back up and made some food for me. At 10pm I had a bath and done my hair for about an hour. I nearly fell asleep in the bath aswell. Now I'm on the computer cause I'm bored. I hope I still survive the next 30 minutes until 12!! LOL :high5: :excited: :phew:
I cooked breakfast!!! My fav nephew was here last two days and going home today. We put away the last of Christmas, made turkey noodle soup( more cooking), and then lounged in chair( still). No plans tonight, just a toast later.
Ahhhh, it's almost my hibernation time with home projects, books, and just hubby and me!! One of my most fav times of the year!!

Happy New Year everyone, present and soon!!
I love this! :clappurple:

Basically, we are boring or tired people??

Helen - the cheesy turkey is:
Roast a turkey and debone and break all the meat into small pieces. (ours is a 21 pound bird!)
While hot, (or reheat) add in butter, Velveeta cheese and cream of mushroom soup (soup optional). Serve hot on whatever type buns you want. Season to taste, but really good just all smooth and creamy.

The girls and Travis both had this on their HS grad party menus per their request. Always a favorite, and so simple to make and serve. We use our crockpot to serve.

They thankfully downgraded our weather - just in a windchill advisory now. The bulk of the storm is still swirling out in North and South Dakota
Hope all you w/ the severe weather down south are as lucky :crossed:

Happy New Year!!!
(7 more hours here, hope I make it after being up since 5:30! )
5 hrs. & 45 minutes to go here. Having friends in here shortly. Shrimp, meatballs, chips & dip, antipasta, trail bologna & cheese & crackers & then a selection of candy & nuts & cookies for the sweet tooths. Oh I almost forgot....Beer & wine too!

The hardest part was cutting up the trail bologna & cheese with 2 of the 3 dogs under my feet! I finally had to put a towel on the floor because Mariah was drooling so much 8O

Have a great evening everyone & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!
We are being complete and utter bums today! Its 3PM and were still in our PJs, hanging out reading and drinking coffee. :high5:

Last night we went to a concert (Indigo Girls :yay: ) and didn't get home till a ridiculous hour, driving through nearly white-out snow conditions 8O . The plan for today had been to take the dogs for a long hike, to wear them out before the neighborhood fireworks began...but woke up to...Rain???????? :twitch: HUH???? So, our yard, driveway and street are impassable with ice. Hmmm....I sure hope this means the fireworks people will take a pass tonight! :lmt:

Hoping everyones New Year is safe and happy!!!!
4 hours to go here. I worked until 5 tonight. Warm here today 50 degrees all of the snow has melted. Like Mark said I had to go outside and clean up the yard. Doing absolutely nothing tonight. I have been exhausted since my fall and still pretty sore tonight. I'm sure I will be asleep way before midnight. I'm not sure How Mattie is going to handle the fireworks. I have already given her some calming herbs that the trainer recommended. Tomorrow I'm driving out to my dads to have New Years dinner with him. He is making ribs, saurkraut, and knockwurst.

Everyone be safe and have a wonderful New Years Celebration.

Lisa Frankie and Mattie
Had a really lazy day here--slept in and then lounged around most of the day. Going out for a little Chinese food with our daughter and her boy friend--then coming back here for games and movies. Son is working tonight so he won't be with us this year- he is a student and a server and says he can't pass up the Holiday tips tonight! Don't blame him. Tomorrow we will do our (bad for you breakfast) and have a do nothing day! Reading, movies and a few ball games I am sure. We are expecting the thunderstorms here tonight too. 65 degrees here today--go figure!
Less than 3 hours here and just woke up from sleeping in front of TV. Made fudge :twitch: :twitch: The LAST thing I needed to make but DH was moaning he didn't have "candy" for the parade tomorrow. Yeah gads, he's not the diabetic! So of course I had to have a sample white cutting it up and storing it. Now a sugar buzz over a still sleepy body, shivering with cold (I shiver most of the winter)

Dawn, the turkey thing sounds so Minnesota Lutheran........like something my inlaws would have made...and maybe did! Around here they would have to include a can of Rotel tomatoes and green chile......hmmm.... :lmt: ...something for future pot lucks. thanks for the idea. Glad the storm remains further north and west.

Bad weather in the South.

Rain over snow in Alaska......lovely, ice layer over snow.

Eyes are dipping, time for bed.

Sounds yummy Dawn...thank you for the recipe.
