Pearl is having another vistibular episode...

She won't stand and when I try to help her up, she just folds. She is panting heavily, drooling(and she is NOT a drooler), her heart is pounding and when I checked her eyes they are going in all directions. She lost control of her bowels.

If I try to pet or cuddle her, she gets tense, so I am trying to leave her alone~~ the reason I am posting instead of doing what my gut tells me to do, which is hug her and hug her tight!!!!!

I am waiting for the vet to open..I am trying to be very calm. ((it is so hard.))

will keep everyone posted...please send prayers..not ready to be without her yet.....

Hugs to you and Pearl.. :ghug:
Oh no, not again. Poor baby, I'm so sorry you are going thru this. Please let us know how things go this morning.
Hugs and prayers for Pearl. Poor baby.
:ghug: :ghug: To Pearl and you.
We are all thinking of you both. Fingers and paws crossed here for a speedy recovery.
I had to go to work, so Maureen is at the house watching her. Maureen says she is shaking and walking drunk and just stands there...it's almost like she forgot how to lay.....but at least she is moving around. I called the vet and will be picking up meds for her. Can't wait to get home to her!!!!
Oh, I feel bad for both you and Pearl. :( :(

How nasty for her to feel sick and dizzy....like a major dose of motion sickness.

I'm glad Maureen is able to be with her.
Is she getting a new med, or something she's been on before?

Hugs Pearlie girl :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
Dawn...she will be on the same meds..meclizine..makes her sleep but I think that is a good thing for her right now...it will take a couple of days to get back to normal...at least I will be home at noon today and then all weekend so I can nurse her back to health!!!! :D

(I am so proud of myself...I didn't freak out like the last time..this is just another bump in the road and she will get over it!!!)....

That girl will be getting some GREAT treats and presents on her birthday tomorrow..I promise!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and support...all of you are awesome!!!!

:ghug:  :ghug: :ghug:

Safe and Happy New Year to all!!!!!!
I hope that Pearl is starting to feel better. :crossed: :ghug:
Pooor Pearl!! That is so sad to hear. :( Glad the vet was able to help and she is getting spoiled tomorrow!!
Big hugs to you and to Pearl!!!! :hearts: :ghug: :hearts:
Hugs to Pearl & you! Keep us posted.
How are the drugs working? Hope they calm her and let her relax and rest. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
still thinking of you guys! Please drop in and give us an update if you can....! Lots of warm thoughts heading your way! :hearts:
The meds are helping immensly!!!!! She is on the Miclizine and an antibiotic..... She IS sleeping alot...but she ate great...made sure to include some boiled chicken I had in the fridge! She did 'her duty'...OUTSIDE..she is even walking a bit!

Again...I know we are going to have more and more of these 'bumps' (right, Dawn?)..but as long as she can bounce back like this, it's OK!!!

Again...and again...and again...THANK YOU ALL!!!!!! For your concern and support!!!!
So glad that Pearl is okay. (Hubby takes meclizine for motion sickness, and it is a miracle drug for him.)

You might want to chat with your vet about keeping some meclizine on hand, in case this happens again. This way, you can get the meds in her as soon as you see the signs.

Hugs to you and Pearl.

Laurie and Oscar
This is the first I have been on today.
So sorry to hear that Pearl is doing well today.
:ghug: :ghug: to all of you.

Keep us posted on how she is doing.
Lisa Frankie and Mattie
Just came on and saw that Pearl was having a bad day. So glad that the meds are working--special thoughts for you and Pearl and glad you have the weekend with her! :ghug:
I just got on and am distressed to see that Pearl's (and your) day started so badly. Thank goodness the meds seem to be giving her some relief.

Hugs to both you and the sweet, sweet Pearl.

Keep us posted. Call me if you need anything.
Partied a bit more than I planned last night (its all due to YOUR punch recipe!) and when I awoke this morning, my first reaction was "I have to see how Pearl is doing!". I'm glad to read that my concern is completely unwarranted, and that she is settling in to celebrate her 15th birthday the way it should be, with comfy naps and a special meal!!!!!! :ghug:

Feel betterPearl; I know you're just milking it so you can get special treatment on your special day, but lay off that Mom of yours already!!!!
I'm glad to hear Pearl is doing well.
Give her a cuddle from me and the lads for her birthday.
:ghug:
Just got on and saw what happened to poor Pearl, I am so sorry. I am glad she can start the New Year fresh and on a better foot. Happy Birthday Pearl! You just need to keep telling Pearl to stay AWAY from the light, she is not allowed to go anywhere yet. :hearts:
Dear Val and Pearl, Josie wants to send her best wishes to Pearl. It is very hard when our best friends are ill. Harry T just passed away from bone cancer, so Josie wanted me to tell Heart to take special care of her friend. Josie has a new buddy, Panda, to bring up and train right, so you will be meeting her in the future, and Pearl can give Josie advice on how to train a youngster.

Best wishes from
Barb and Josie and Panda
Val,
I'm hoping this finds Pearl much improved. It's so difficult to see best buddies go through such tough times. My thoughts and prayers and with you.
Deb
I'm so glad Pearl is feeling better! And she deserves a nice birthday :hearts: :hearts:

I'm thinking you should get some spare meds too, for the dreaded "next time". How hard to watch her be miserable and not have stuff on hand. It invariably will happen after hours, a weekend or a holiday....that's my kind of luck as well.

Val: Dawn's suggestion is right on. Your vet knows what is going on with Pearl due to her age. Ask him about keeping some of the meds on hand. My vet lets me keep prednisone, Rimadyl & Zymox on hand. When I start to run low, I just call & ask about picking up some more. I guess he feels he's dealt with me & my dogs enough over the years to know that I have learned some things & trusts me to be able to know when they need some of this stuff. He sees my dogs on a regular basis anyway & I am always stopping in to weigh them.
Thanks for the suggestion!!! GREAT idea!!!! I will be calling him tomorrow to get meds in case it happens again!!! You guys are awesome!!!! Pearl is doing fine today!!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
So happy she is doing so much better. :cheer: I definitely know the feeling, having a senior here too.
I am glad Pearl is doing good today.

In Val's case since she was personally responsible for paying for the new vet "wing" this year ..... with Heart's cyst removal and urinary tract infection, Coz's skin problems and Pearl's senior issues ... her vet most certainly knows her!

I hope they named that new "wing" after you Val.

May your furry family members have a healthier 2011.

Give your sweet Pearl a hug from me.
Well, Judi It's probably the same in my case too. I mentioned to them one time (when they got new waiting room furniture) "I see the new furniture I bought finally arrived!" Another time they had a carpenter there modifying the steps into the place as I was walking one of my guys in. I told them "Oh shoot! I forgot my stencil with my kennel name on it that says DONATED BY......." Good thing we all have a good sense of humor. In my case, most of it is because I've been with the same vet since 1985. Some years cost more than others but the quality of care & confidence are the important factors to me. And when I compare prices with my friends that live elsewhere, I think I am getting off pretty cheap.

Yes...when I call they know my voice...I don't even have to say anything..they just ask..??? Pearl, Coz or Heart?????
...and on a total topic change - I hope you both escaped storm damage down there. :D :D :D
Well I did....the Italian gods do protect their own.......

I think Judi did fine too. Been PMing her and she didn't say she was living out of her garage or anything...IF she had..I would have driven over and grabbed Harry~~~ Heaven knows he is used to the finer things in life!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
Sorry i am late on this. poor Pearl! Hope she is much better today!
Oh dear!! I just saw this post. What a scare!! I am so glad Pearl is feeling better. It sure sounds like Max's symptoms with the shaking and disorientation. I am hoping he will have Pearl's outcome. I am a total wreck waiting to hear news. I am flying today and won't be home until tomorrow. Last night my 23 yr old son called me in tears.

Pearl is 15 and Max is 16...every day we have with them is a blessing!!
Janet... I have been thinking of Max all day...let us know what you find out...If it IS peripheral vestibular syndrome, it is just a little bump in the road of life...very concerning, but something that can be fixed.

Has there been changes in the barometric pressure that will influence or aggrivate this syndrome and bring it on.....

I pm'd you...waiting to hear how Max is.....
