New Years Day Brunch

So our annual New Year's Day Brunch will be taking place on... January 1st!
Every year some friends who all have different familial obligations at The Holidays gather together for brunch and to exchange a few presents for the kids.

We will eat from the buffet - eggs and sausage and bacon and waffles and turkey and roast beast and seafood whatever and eggs Benedict and oatmeal and a large desert table of petit fours and ice cream sundays fixins and cakes and pies and puddings.

$18 per adult.

Any wonder why we waddle into February?

Anyone else do a New Year's Day brunch, or have another New Year's custom?

Two Paracetamol and keep the curtains drawn!
Only New Year's eve here.
We get together at one of the family members. Play cards, watch movies, play games, eat food and drink (potluck food and beverages). Ring in the New Year and kiss your spouse!

Todd has volunteered our house. I had a migraine and was out all day yesterday. That leaves today for a mad rush of cleaning, as I work 7am-7pm both Thursday and Friday! 8O

On New Year's Day Iwill sleep in and lounge (in my flannels!) around most likely....then clean up!
This New Year's Day I will visit Mom, who was finally released from the hospital after 4 weeks. She's in skilled nursing now, having PT daily and getting her strength back. I will drive an hour and half to visit with her for about an hour (after that she'll be really tired) then drive an hour and a half home. I think I'll stop at White Castle for New Year's dinner!

New Year's Eve my friend and I are going to the movies (The King's Speech) then an early dinner and I'll get home before all the partiers hit the roads. Perhaps I'll visit Bob and have an equine New Year's Eve!
Wow... breakfast with dessert!! I'd be in heaven (since I hate breakfast but ALWAYS eat desserts)

The only tradition we have is my mom makes this Korean soup that is supposed to make you live a year longer and keep you healthy. It's HORRIBLE [to me], and I cringe at the thought of anyone wanting to consume it.

I rather participate in sitting around eating dips and sausage and cheese platters all day while watching movies which is what we end up doing after the dreaded soup.
We start the morning off with champagne, last of the Christmas cookies and other snick snacks while watching the Rose Parade. DH used to live on So Cal so remembers being there in person. By parade's end, I'm up for a nap but do manage to throw together a brunch; eggs, toast, etc and then later we have soup for dinner. (that is if I get it made today or tomorrow). Nothing like the "long life" soups, this year it will be turkey noodle.

Plenty of parties to attend New Year's Eve but we pass on all.
We have no traditions, so Dave and I are starting one this year: we're spending the day just the two of us! With our big, close families we rarely get to do that anymore. On the second I have a date with Walter
Joan and I work in the same home office -- Good Lord we don't need more time alone!
Our New Years tradition is on New Years Day--(we don't party on New Years Eve--we go out and eat Chinese Food and see a movie) so on New Years Day we have our ONCE A YEAR (really bad for you) breakfast. We do Country Ham, red eye gravy, homemade biscuits, and fried eggs, pancakes and all the trimmings.
My Dad started this years ago as he was in the meat business and so many gave him big huge Country Hams as gifts. We have carried it on as we all love it but do not allow ourselves to have it often! After all that we do ballgames, games and snacks for the rest of the day--with a few movies if time allows.
I really do look forward to this meal all year!
No big tradition here but we usually just go to dinner early and are home before mignight. Lots of parties going on, but after years of doing that, we prefer to be home. There is a saying," What you are doing on New Year's Eve, is what you'll be doing the rest of the year"...And we prefer to be home with our doggys!

LOL I guess we do-!!
This New Year's is very special to us as we will celebrate having Mady for a year. We met our girl on New Year's Day last year, when Amber plopped Mady into my lap and our lives changed forever. 2010 saw us get Mady, get married, and have David survive a shocking and completely unexpected heart attack. Three things to celebrate. We have decided not to go out and party, but will enjoy good food and drink at home and then go for a midnight walk with Mady. Then we are NEVER EVER EVER drinking again, or eating for that matter, as we have just survived Christmas with my family. Our livers are pickled, our cholesterol levels are off the charts and even my eyeballs feel fat right now. So New Years Eve will be our last hurrah. Until the next time we overindulge.
I love the brunch idea Ron...so, Im planning on stealing it! :P

We had planned on a New Year's Eve dinner with our closest friends...but since our municipality decided to make fireworks legal again, all of us realized we were going to have a pack of hysterical dogs on our hands and were better of planning our party for the (much quieter) following AM. Thanks for the save! :high5:
Hmmmm "Make them legal again"... You mean they stopped making them illegal?

:sidestep:
We don't do a darn thing other than be happy it is another year!!! :clappurple:

Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!! :hearts:
