Hello from Mira Loma, Ca

Hi everyone,

This is my first time owning a sheep dog and have already used this forum as a resource several times. I do want to say that you have all been very helpful and I hope to contribute to other new owners like you have helped me.

A little about me...I am a 26 yr old recent college grad with an M.S. in engineering. I have always wanted a sheepdog since a I was a kid, now that I have finished my education I rewarded myself with one of my longlife dreams...a sheepdog. I got Maximiliano, Max for short, from a breeder in colorado, not a kennel, her name is shawn blevins. Max has been a lot of work, but he has been great so far. He is a little aggresive when it comes to food, but from what I here that is normal.

Thank You for your support.

Tell ya what -- we'll answer your sheepdog questions, you answer our engineering questions! Fair deal?

Are you an Electrical or Mechanical or Civil or... ?

...and Welcome!
Welcome, German! Glad you've found our little piece of sheepie heaven on this forum. And you're right - you will find TONS of pertinent info here that you will refer to many times as your Max grows up!

As for the food aggression, please don't consider that as completely normal. It may not be too bad right now since he's a puppy, but if left unchecked, it could get worse. Try to hand feed him one piece at a time for awhile, so that he knows that food comes from you. Once you put the dish down, try taking it away from him. If he growls or nips, immediately take the dish up and let him know that his meal time is over. And please consider taking him to training so that he begins to view you as alpha.

All that said, have fun with your new little bundle of fluff! Post pictures when you can, and feel free to ask any and all questions!

Welcome German & Max!!
Glad you have you with us. Looking for those pics.
Hi German and Max, we have a Max also, his full name is Maxwell George. I, too, have really enjoyed this forum. It is so informative and entertaining, how old is your Max? My Max is 15 weeks, and what a ride this has been so far!!

Welcome German and Max :D

Enjoy your puppy while he's small; they grow fast. Two books I would recommend are
The Dog's Mind: Understanding Your Dog's Behavior, by Bruce Fogle, Anne B. Wilson and
The Dog Listener: Learn How to Communicate with Your Dog for Willing Cooperation, by Jan Fennell.
These will help answer many questions about aggression, etc.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum and what a cutie you've got! He's so adorable!
Best advice I can give with a sheepie: is to remember what's cute now may not be so cute when they are 100 pounds or so. :D That's it for my words of wisdom.
Enjoy and love him and don't be afraid to ask for advice on here. It's full of friendly people and wonderful advice.
