Panda is a very happy, healthy and active young OES. She is playful and very sweet. She gets along with other dogs, and cats, too. She was given up by an owner because they were not home enough and could not give her the time and exercise she needs. She will make some lucky person a great companion!

Hum...I need to read up on this Rescue. Wonder if MoKan needs to offer assistance?

Thanks Jaci  ! Looks like they try to adopt out every dog they can; euthanasia being the very last resort. I'll get with Carol on her. We might want to just reach out to them and let them know we are here.
Thanks, Jen! :D
Hoping she'll have a great home soon.
Hello,

I was just wondering if Panda is still looking for a new home. I do Have an old sheep dog , Annie , she is 3 years old . I thought it would be a good idea to have an other one but I don't know how they would get a long?. Annie is very friendly and none agressive.

Thank ,

F.
Just a quick update. I spoke with the Saline Animal League (very nice people). Two people have inquired about Panda already. Both already have OES. A gentleman who lives in KY is first on the list. He has had OES since 1974, and used to do rescue (Jim? :lmt:). Another couple from CO with a similar background. If both fall through Panda will be coming to the MoKan Rescue. Thanks for the post Jaci!
Contact the shelter directly. I just called but would have had to leave a message... I don't want them to have to return a long distance call. Below is the information you will need to inquire about Panda...

If you can't get through, maybe leave a message AND write to the email address above.
Good luck to you! I hope her personality and temperament will be a match for you and Annie.
Oops... sorry Jen. We posted at about the same time. Thanks so much for checking on her!!

Probably.

fanfan, I would still take time to make contact IF you really would like Panda. Or wait to see if Jim (if it's the KY Jim we're thinking) or Carol with MoKan get her. Then you have the backup and support of a rescue if the match isn't right... they would likely always take her back. It's hard to say how two will get along without knowing the dogs.
I just send an email to the rescue and I ask more description about the dog.

Thanks , Fanfan.
:clappurple: A family from St. Louis picked up Panda yesterday! The family is a member of the St. Louis OES club! :yay:
Oooh! :clappurple:
I love it when people with OES experience get one of these babies that need a home.
Thanks so much for letting us know, Jen!

Fanfan... if you weren't this family, I'm sure you're feeling a bit sad right now. But
if you really want to bring in another OES, others will always be needing a good
home. I don't know where you're from but you might also check with OES rescues
near you... complete their adoption applications so if the right OES comes in, you'll be
a little ahead of things. You might be able to put your name with shelters too.
Panda is at home in St Louis with Josie age 12 doing her best to teach her how to be a good pup. I am a member of the St Louis OES club, and year's ago used to be the OES rescue person for Purebred Rescue here in St Louis, so I do have rescue experience. Panda is my fourth OES, and is learning not to chew on people or Josie, not to jump up on everyone, and not to bark at everything (I hope). She came knowing how to bring toys back if I throw them (great exercise) and accepting brushing which makes life much easier. She is a year old, and was forty pounds at her first vet visit. She has had all her shots and is on heartworm and flea and tick protection, but she came with a bad case of whip worms and was too anemic to be spayed. She is gaining weight and will go back to the vet's at the end of January for her surgery.
Saline Animal League is terrific. They had never seen an old English before, but did their very best to see she got a good home with someone very familiar with the breed. I can't say enough about the good work they do.

Josie's Mom, Josie and now Panda
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: congrats we would love to see pics of her ..thanks for saving her
:yay: Thanks so much for the update! The Saline Animal League is definitely a terrific group! The animals are their #1 priority and it shows!

Welcome to the forum! Can't wait to hear stories and see pictures of Panda!
Thanks so much for giving her a great home. :hearts:
It is now officially March and I thought you might like to hear how Panda is doing. She can still bark the roof off, but now when she knows that she is in the crate, but not for a long period, she quiets right down. She is sleeping in the crate at night, without making any fuss, that is until she wants to get up. Josie and I are trying to teach her that the right time to get up is about 8 in the morning, not 630 am. Last night, Josie decided that she had to go out at 2 am. She stands right by my bed and gives a quiet Whuff, just in case I am still asleep and didn't hear her stirring around. I let Josie out the back door, and decided as long as we were up, to give Panda a quick walk outside. Panda sleeps like the dead, once she falls asleep. I opened the crate door and asked if she wanted to go outside. No movement. I rattled the bag of liver treats and she slowly stirred, then at a snail's pace, she stood up, streched, and decided she could go out after all. By this time, Josie was all done and coming back inside. Panda was out for about five minutes, then came back in, had a drink, and started to play fetch the toy at full speed. After a few minutes of this, while Josie was hiding in the bedroom, I put her back in the crate and started down the hall myself. Major barking broke out, but stopped as soon as she realized Josie and I weren't coming back out to play until morning.

This morning, all was fine until Josie wanted a drink of water. She had been out and I still had her on the retractable lead in case she wanted to go out again. She drank a bit and then submerged her nose in the water. Then she put one front foot in the water. I tightened up on the lead and told her NO! When I released her she put her foot back in the water dish and then turned it on it's side. Fortunately it was almost empty, so not much water spilled. She does enjoy tipping her water dish, but this is the first time she has tried it with the larger dish I keep by the kitchen sink. Did I mention that my house has all tile floors. It is a blessing, indeed. I am trying to come up with an untipable water dish, but am running short on ideas. I don't suppose I can fit a horse trough in my front room.

Panda is enjoying great good health. She has gained back the weight she had lost to the whip worms and I have decided to cut her back to the recommended three cups of puppy chow a day. While she had been so thin, I was feeding her four cups a day, but sheepdogs have a bad track record with hip displacia, I don't want to get her too heavy while she is still growing. The last time we weighed her she was 45 pounds and now I can't feel her ribs when I pet her. I am working on being able to let her loose in the house for an hour or more at a time, until she really starts rough housing, or Josie begs for a break time. Panda loves herding Josie around. Josie puts up with it but after awhile she has had enough. The floor is covered with well loved dog toys and five bones at last count.
Panda loves to switch toys and bones often, so we leave enough out that she doesn't feel compelled to attack shoes, socks, underwear, and the like. She loves oranges, bananas, apples and pears. I usually share any fruit I am eating with Josie, so now they take turns having a small bite each. She would probably eat anything I gave her, but I am trying to teach her socially acceptable behavior. I used to give Josie pieces of pizza until she decided she could just help herself to the plate full of pizza. We learn from our failures.

Once again, thank you so much for all your help with Panda. She is spayed, up to date with all her shots, has been chipped, wears a name tag with my name, address and ph number. We are waiting with great hope until she turns two, and becomes, rumor has it, a mature sheepdog. Josie is doing her best to teach her how to be the greatest sheepdog of all time. I am doing my best to teach all the other things like sit and down and stay. Blessings on you and the Saline Animal League. Keep up the great work.

Barbara Relyea, Josie and Pandamonium! (new nickname)

PS. Sorry about no pictures. I am not a camera person. She is very light grey with one grey ear and one semi white ear, brown eyes, no tail and best of all, pink toenails.
