ear infection

Howie had an ear infection last week. The vet gave us drops, and I think the infection has cleared up. I am still putting the drops in his ears for another few days and then a trip back to the vet for a check up.

My question is... how do I clean Howie's ears now? Not the inner ear, but all the gunky smelly stuff on the under flap of his ear? Can I use baby wipes or is there something else I could use?

Thanks,
peg

For the inside ear flap we just use cotton balls and a little warm soapy water or if necessary sometimes a little isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.
Thanks Ron, I will get to the cleaning tonight. I will need to provide a bit of cheese to go along with the cleaning..bribes work well in my house!

Bribes work well in most houses. If you have a third hand, let it hold the bride so puppy can only nibble on the treat thus keeping focus on the treat, not the action on the ears.
If he has an ear infection, I would wait until that clears before attempting to clean anything - even outside. Alcohol might burn...We use ear wipes all natural and they work great but I always wait to be sure the infiection is gone so I a sure there are no sores that might sting...
