The choppy look is in.

That's what I decided as I started hacking at Belle this morning, but now I don't think I did that bad of a job! Yes, there are definitely stragglers and I'm sure it's not an even length all over, but it WAS my first time. And it wasn't too bad. You kind of get the hang of it after a while.

Belle seems friskier now so it was definitely worth being covered in fur from head to toe. She's also more gray now, the black all got cut off!

Clippers didn't work well, so it was scissors and I've definitely decided to invest in a good pair with longer blades. I had just bought a small $10 pair from the beauty supply and they worked, but a longer pair would be nice.

Yow - the picture makes her REALLY look choppy, but that's the look that's in . . . and the point was to make her cooler anyway. Maybe I'll take another shot at it tomorrow. :?

Aww, she'll be so much cooler now-- and easier to brush! I trimmed the hair around Clyde's face and eyes with the same theme in mind: the choppy look is in!
I think Belle looks cute! Choppy is the way I would have to describe Bailey's face - I keep trying to trim around his eyes and he hates it. Right now one eye is done and the other isn't, so he's looking a bit lopsided!

What age is Belle? We were just wondering how old sheepies are when they start turning from black to gray.
Choppy is cool !!!
Belle is beautiful in her new hairdo, she will really appreciate
it as the spring and summer weather approaches.
She will have more energy with the new cut too !!
Thanks all! I've got a new appreciation for the woman who cuts MY hair now, LOL!

Belle is 8-1/2, but she was black when I rescued her in September. She's a special case, I think, since I know they turn gray a lot earlier than she did.

At least now her choppy head fits her choppy body. This winter I was having a heck of a time with the area between her eyes & ears. It's very thick and I wanted her to be able to see but I wasn't having much luck blending it with the ears.

I'll probably end up shaving her down more for the summer. I don't want her heart to have to deal with any more stress than it has to.

She doesn't look that funky in person - she's quite the dream girl and all the boys let her know during tonights walk.

Clyde's going to turn 7 months next week and he's still mostly black to the naked eye. When you actually lift his hair, he's gray underneath. In the sun he looks like he's a really dark brown because the gray glows underneath in the sun. I love him dark but I'll love him just as much gray too!
Belle and Norman have the same haircut!
Norman usually lays comatose while I cut his hair but for some reason, this time he decided it was fidgety day and he ended up with a very punk look. Apparently it's a new trend in the "older" sheepdog crowd.
Looks exactly like the first time I did a sheepdog......wait, it looks exactly like the way the current sheepie is turning out, only difference is I'll go back over with a clipper with a comb to even things out a bit. It grows out quickly, so you'll get a second chance about mid summer.
awww...she's pretty!

Scissoring is one of the hardest things to learn to do and it takes so long. I think it looks great for your first time.
Jil, Belle looks great!! I love that little-bit-of-shaggy look. Not too long, not too short - just right! Now you can claim you're a veteran!
Chris
Belle: alias Rumpledstiltskin :D I love it.
She looks happy with the new do :) I'd be too nervous to scissor, wiggly puppies and sharp objects don't mix...lol.. maybe when they're older.
she's still beautiful!
Pud is also sporting the new choppy look (on his nose anyway). I got him last night with the clippers and he only let me make a few swipes before he thought it was to quit. We will have to try again tonight.
