Update on Frankie

Just got a call from the vet.
Frankie is doing really good. Just waking up and lifting his head.
The joint was really bad. He actually had a couple of pieces of cartilage that broke off and was floating around. Thats what was causing the crunching.
He scraped out the lesion, irrigated the heck out of it, and drilled holes in the bone so blood flow will help new cartilage growth.
I will bring him home tomorrow.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.

Good stuff Frankie!

I've been through the recovery from OCD surgery with a previous sheepie...who had a free floating piece, too. Frankie's going to feel so much better already that the hardest part will be keeping him calm. Our Theeps was supposed to be kept completely still the first night, and we all slept in the living room with him, on the floor. Hubby got up to get a blanket, left the door to upstairs slightly ajar when he came back.

We woke up the next morning, on the floor, backs aching, necks stiff...and no Theeps.

He'd pushed open the door, walked up the stairs and down the hall, climbed up on the (then) waterbed, and was sleeping on his back with four paws in the air. I'm glad he was comfortable.

We popped a bunch of Tylenol for our sore backs and joined him.

Here's to a quick and easy (and uneventful) recovery for Frankie! Virtual hugs to all.
i hear you with derby we put our bed on the floor and ramps since i have a aframe all steps .. also what helped was putting a tee shirt on him to help him leave the stitches alone and the shaving was the hard part they want to lick the bare skin ..good luck
Great news with frankie I am so glad he got through the 2nd lot of OCD surgery well, he will be a new man now.

Gentle hugs for your baby. :ghug:
Thinking of you!
Hoping Frankie is doing well. :hearts:
Is Mattie being a good nurse?
So glad that Frankie is doing well :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Thinking good thoughts for Frankie. We are having terrible weather in our area today, so I'm hoping that he is okay getting around outside to do his "business". Our first sheepdog, Quincy, had OCD surgery on his elbow in January of 2001, so I know how difficult it is to navigate with this type of injury in the snow, trying to keep the stitches dry.

Hope all is well.

Frankie did pretty good this weekend. We had a snow storm yesterday so it made it a little difficult. Same thing happened last February when we had his other shoulder done. His leg doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. He wants to play in the snow with Mattie so bad. We had his ears plucked also and now he wont quit shaking his head so I'll be calling the vet today. I tried to put meds in them and he actually tried to bite me. Little Stinker.
I'll update more later.
Thanks for all your hugs and thoughts.

It's great to hear Frankie is doing so well!!!!! doing a happy dance!!!!
Ouchie ears. He didn't mean it... he was just telling you that it really, really hurt.

The vet can give you something to sooth his ears. If he's shaking his head too much, consider putting an e-collar on him (if he's not already graced with one 8) ) so his ears won't violently flap around and develop a hemotoma. You might also put a snood on inside the cone if he can still flap them around.
I was wondering how the weather was messing with Frankie getting around. This ice is BAD! I almost have fallen so many times since it started here Friday night.

Sprinkling grit(for chickens) or oyster shells is a good non-salt alternative and safe for over grassy areas. They are all sold out at the farm stores arounf here now. :( Still had a partial bag of the oyster shells from last winter, thankfully!

Sorry about his ears too - ouchie!
We've used the cheap clay kitty litter too and that helps. In a real pinch I've used baking soda, don't seem to have any damage with it.

Todd was plowing with the tractor yesterday and with all the ice he got stuck/wheels spinning a few times. He said he was planning on emptying the litter box any way......so he threw it under the tires to give some traction.... :cow:

Now this was thankfully way out in the farm yard, he was trying to get the huge mountains of snow pushed back a bit, so we have room for the next time it snows (supposed to be this Wednesday 8O ).

Gotta give him credit, creative thinking there!
So glad to hear that Frankie is doing well and is on the mend! :clappurple: :clappurple: Hang in there Frankie!
