Tape worms

Does anyone have any experience with tape worms?

I got a call today telling me that Dave's uncles dog (which is Marley's mama) has tapeworms. Rudie and Marley spent 2 days with her over thanksgiving.

Rudie had diarrhea for two days this week, but I attributed that to the box of life cereal he stole off the counter on Monday. He hasn't pooped since we started the rice diet the other day, so who knows what will come out...

Marley had diarrhea this morning, which turned into a bit of bloody diarrhea. She has been fine for the rest of the day. They are both acting like regular happy dogs, in fact they were lunatics at the park.

What should I look for besides the worms in their poop? We have been checking their butts regularly and haven't seen anything. I heard a regular fecal doesn't always catch it, but I will be calling the vet in the morning anyway to see if we should bring em in (I will at least be bringing a fecal sample in)

Any thoughts would be welcome!

ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Simon had those once. Vet picked up on it.We gave deworming meds and his poop came out with live worms in it.

ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You'll see small whitish, dray or yellowish worm segments in the dog's feces or on the hair of his rear end or elsewhere on the body....crawled or the dog transferred them else where after minding his rear end. You may even see them in the dog's bed...they may resemble grains of rice or be flatter and wider.

Fleas are the major transport for tapeworm. Keeping the dog flea free, away from other infested animals both domestic and wild, keep the dog from eating "strange" things like rabbit poop, deer poop or even insects that carry the fleas.
Thanks, they are on flea and tick meds, but I did skip last month thinking it would be fine. Definitely regretting that.

I have been checking their butts (they are so confused as to why I keep lifting their tails, haha) and haven't seen anything. They both had solid poop last night and this morning with no signs of worms.

Hopefully it was just a round of diarrhea and there's no worms. I'll call the vet to see if we should bring in a fecal anyway. Thanks for the tips.
