need "puppy cut" photos to show groomer?

My puppy is 6 months old and is going in for her first pro groom. So far I have just been brushing her and bathing her at home, but at this point I think she needs a professional ear cleaning and "sanitary clip." She will be shaved down in the summer because of the heat, but for the winter I'm considering going with a "puppy cut" to clean her up a bit. I am getting conflicting info on the board about this. Some say it is done with a clippers to a uniform length, some say it is all scissors. I'm just looking for an even all-over cut. I really dislike the Bichon look and don't want anything like that, so I'm afraid! Any info or photos I can show the groomer would be helpful. I have searched the board but this has left me more confused than when I started. :-(

I'm partial to Mequpak :hearts:

It depends on how short you want it. I ALWAYS only do and/or ask for scissors. If I did it even shorter, I would use clippers (less than 2"). ...and I always make the legs from the kneecaps down longer (which is a personal preference b/c many people on here don't like that).

This is Simon at 9mo old.

This is Garfunkel just this last year(I think)

I do get them done by someone who knows what they are doing. I did it once and it was not pretty. Spot jobs(eyes and butt) in between I do myself.

I have been doing the same thing--trimming around the eyes so she doesn't bump into walls, and clipping around the butt as needed. I also just trimmed the beard because it gets really funky. I'm not very good at it, mainly because she doesn't stay still! Oh well--it's all coming off in the spring anyway. But I don't want her to look like a ragamuffin in the meantime, so I'm taking her in for a tuneup with a pro.

I particularly like your photo of Garfunkel here. It looks very natural. Was that done with scissors or clippers? And just out of curiosity, does a scissor cut cost more than a clipper cut? Seems like it would take longer. I'm already worried about leaving my little darling with them for hours.
Heart :hearts: :hearts: ..her first 'trim' at 12 months old.... different views..... I didn't want her head trimmed as it was FINALLY long enuff for piggy/pony tails...

That looks great! I was trying to leave the hair around the eyes long, but she really did keep running into walls, and especially into our fence gate. I was afraid she was going to hurt herself. I tried a topknot, but she rubbed that band out and it has never been found (assuming she ate it?). So I did some trimming and she was so much happier. Definitely got a bit spunkier, presumably because she could see a whole bunch of exciting stuff that previously just been sort of a vague blur. :excited:
Ooooh... It's our boy! :clappurple:

I wish we lived closer so you could show me how to clip him like that.
It's an absolutely adorable cut!! I try to do the same with the legs. I
had started clipping him tonight... he's about 2/3s done. He was tired
of standing so I'll finish him tomorrow, then give him a tubby. No way
will he look that good.
Here is Bo at 9 months after his first prof. grooming visit.

I wish I could groom him like this. I don't have the vision for the curves (yet).

Umm... I think anyone would be taking tips from you since you do it so much AND it's always perfectly even in pics. Anyway, I didn't do this one. I'm pretty sure if anything I might have touched it up but I can tell from this pic jilly was just born, so I doubt I had time.
Oops  Well, I do remember the pictures you shared when you beautifully scissored him! :D
I've been sweating bullets here trying to get the courage to clip him again.
Scissor cuts are more expensive and you would be lucky to find someone who would do it. When I take mine in I tell them to take them down to two inches. Short but fun.
Chewie after he finished his Ch. and I cut his hair back - this was scissored.

Chewie on the left - scissored that day, and sister Martha on the right, she was growing out from a total shave.

this was him a month before I cut it!

Image

I did decide I liked his hair longer than the original cut - especially in the head. But I was so currious to somewhat see him without long hair for the 1st time in his life

Here he is about a month ago doing weight pull. It's a good side view picture to see most of his coat. He has a topknot in, but it really doesn't show well in this picture.

And it is just hair and grows back pretty darn quick. :D

This, to me, is the perfect cut AND length on a sheepdog.

Dawn,
Brother & sister look great.

Do you think that's OK for the winter months? If you're doing a 2" clip in Wisconsin in winter, I know I can get away with it down here!
Tonks and Luna's first puppy cut; i thought they looked a bit like giant Schnauzers; very funny!

Here's before and after; they weren't that far out from their spay, hence the "arm bands":

My boys are hot dogs. Short cut and they go sit it the snow. Spend about a half to an hour out in the yard...in the snow.

After a cut they will be a bit colder - some enjoy a coat or sweater for a little bit in real winter.
Chewie - he's with Simon and Gar - the colder the better!

ps - I love the bookends picture of the boys!

Mine also seems to run hot. She sleeps on top of the AC vent in our kitchen. I think I'm going to go for the 2" all over clip and see how it goes. If she seems chilly, I'll put a sweater on her. If nothing else, it will look cute. :D

I grew up in Wisconsin and all the dogs (even dachshunds, dobermans, etc.--dogs with very, very short coats) and horses I knew went outside w/o sweaters. Down here where it's relatively warm in the winter, people blanket their horses when it gets below 60 degrees (!!) and put coats on their dogs. I'm not sure why that is. Do pets in warmer climates have a different constitution because they spend the summer months dealing with 100 degree temps day after day?
