Favorite Thanksgiving Dish

What is your favorite....is it because of taste or memory of past Thanksgivings? I have to say mine is the dressing...my Mother's was sooo good....nothing special just herb seasoned bread, broth, celery, onions, poultry seasoning and always moist!

Dressing here too!! Moist and oh so good. My Mom uses GMA's "recipe" , if in fact there actually is one.. LOL. A handful of this, a pinch of that.

Pour gravy all over it and the turkey, add green been cassorole, and I am a happy camper.
I'm starving, we've been talking yummy food for two weeks. Dressing, not stuffing, definitely, and broccoli cheese casserole i cant wait!!!!!
I can't pick one item - it is by far my favorite holiday meal!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

The smells are heaven and taste buds go crazy. From the 1st bite of turkey/dressing/gravy, to the last bit of pie.....yum! :phew:
My favorite is my Dad's recipe for chicken and dumplings! It would not be a Thanksgiving meal without them. It was hard for him to 'write' it down for us because he just made them. It has taken me YEARS to perfect my efforts to make them. Finally got there the last few years. His secret is the broth in the dough! YUM! If we had nothing else but these my whole family would be happy! It is such a process that we only make them at holidays! Go figure!
My favorite "memory" dishes are my Mom's stuffing, which was the best and her Apple Pie. I don't make stuffing because my family doesn't eat it...still trying to perfect my Mom's crust.
We are going to Michigan this year to meet my new granddaughter and will be having Thanksgiving at my sister Anne's house. I hear Anne has perfected both Mom's stuffing and apple pie, so really looking forward to having a taste. Anne is a great cook so anything she makes is wonderful.
I'm looking forward to having Thanksgiving with my son/ sisters and their families.
I'm glad I raised many babies so I can multi task/holding the new granddaughter while munching on all the food. :)
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
LOVE my broccoli, cheese, rice casserole. Before I had it, it would have been green bean casserole. It's the only time of the year I don't save room for dessert. Now I make tons of desserts, but they're not for me.
candied sweet potatoes :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Dressing/stuffing! I have several recipes and DH always asks me to make them all. Of course I don't but I give him two. He'll gladly eat dressing from T-day to Christmas....but since he eats it 3x a day, they last a week or so.

I always loved Mom's pumpkin pie. She put rum in the custard, yummy.

SIL Betsy would make a Boursin cheese and broccoli casserole I'd gladly take seconds and thirds.
I love how it's dressing to some people and stuffing to others. STUFFING here :) :cheer:

I'd have to say it's either the STUFFING (not stuffed, BTW)

or

arugula/pomegranate/goat cheese salad with vinagrette.

or mashed potatoes. Those are yummy too. Carbs and veggies are my favs.
I'm with Linda on the stuffing and sounds like our recipes are the same. My husband will only eat one piece of dark meat, one day a year, but really fills up on the stuffing and gravy.
stuffing that is STUFFED!!
Right, stuffing that is stuffed. Tastes so much better.
Our crew loves the stuffing too. My Dad had a recipe using Ritz Crackers. You would be amazed! On top of everything is the gravy, not just any gravy but GIBLET Gravy, with the giblets (gizzards) and heart added in as well. Hold the liver though.
ooh, Ritz crackers sounds interesting.

Stuffed with stuffing! By far my most favorite Thanksgiving dish is stuffing. You can keep the mashed potatoes and gravy, I'll pass up the turkey and pumpkin pie, just give me stuffing!
I was able to get the Ritz Cracker Stuffing recipe in the event anyone wanted to try it.
The recipe is to make it as a stand alone item. Back in the day (prior to all the concerns about contaminated stuffings inside the turkey) we actually stuffed the bird with it. Its also GREAT as a snack while it is still uncooked as I recall many a "sample" taste test being done. It always passed! :clappurple:

2- Boxes of Ritz Crackers, crushed (I use a food processor)
1- Onion, chopped
4 Tbsp of Crisco shortening, melted
Salt, Pepper and Spices to taste
Water to moisten- will take at least a couple cups

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Line a 9X13 pan with foil to make it easy to remove the stuffing. Spray the foil with Pam.

Mix the crushed crackers, onion and spices in a large bowl. Next add the melted Crisco and stir well. Then add the water gradually mixing well after each addition of water. The stuffing is moistened enough when there are no cracker crumbs left and it completely holds together.

Place in the 9X13 pan patting down as you go to smooth out the stuffing. Cover with foil and bake for one hour. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes or until nicely browned on the top.

Using Foil as handles, remove stuffing to a cutting board and cut using a pizza cutter into squares. Serve and Enjoy.
Love me some stuffing, but I do not like it STUFFED! (Hubby puts bacon grease and crumbled bacon in it. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, bacon.)

Laurie and Oscar
I loved giblet gravy as well but my husband and daughters refused to eat it with that "stuff"in it...now I just use it to make turkey stock and strain it out. My Mom put giblets in dressing and gravy. She used to put stuffing in the turkey and make a casserole dish...never is there too much stuffing. I love it both ways with gravy!
Sweet potatoes for sure! I was never huge on stuffing until I had my mother-in-law's. I think there's a stick of butter in every bite.

Oh yum...
Just out of curiousity, has anyone tried the "white castle stuffing". I have never tried it (and never will) but my MIL told me about it yesterday and I'm super curious as to opinions.

anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Sweet potatoes! :clappurple:  :excited: :yay: :cheer:

Oh boy, if my husband and son hear about this we are in trouble...they will be road tripping for sure! 8)
Actually, I love White Castle. It was one of my dad's favorite places to stop when I was a kid and we were out and about...anytime he could over rule my mom!

edit - I found it!!

I love White Castle. Several years ago we were going to southern MI and went down thru Chicago and Indiana, stopped at a white castle attached to a gas station. Just wasn't the same, they were missing something or maybe sat too long but boy I would try them again. Don't know why WI never got some of those places.
If anyone is interested.... here is the recipe for the White Castle Dressing.
It originated in Columbus Oh. Imagine that. 8O :D

White Castle turkey dressing
10 White Castle hamburgers (see note)

11/2 cups celery, diced

11/4 teaspoons ground thyme

11/2 teaspoons ground sage

3/4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper

1/4 cup chicken broth

* * *
In a large mixing bowl, tear the White Castle hamburgers into pieces and add diced celery and seasonings.

Toss and add chicken broth. Toss well. Stuff cavity of turkey just before roasting.

Makes about 9 cups (enough for a 10- to 12-pound turkey). Allow 1 White Castle hamburger for each pound of turkey, which will be the equivalent of 3/4 cup of stuffing per pound.

Note: If hamburgers are bought in a White Castle restaurant, remove pickles. Mary Batters likes to saute the celery before combining it with the rest of the ingredients.

* * *
I'm all about the turkey. Its my favorite meat EVER. And once the bug bites? I roast them until they fresh ones are completely gone from the stores, or until Adam is bored to tears of eating it.
