Oes.org calendar

I posted this in the Bilbo thread on Pictures but not everyone may read that. I officially volunteer to look into the possibility of producing our very own calendar. If it looks do-able, I'll take George up on his offer to help because I am extremely computer illiterate. I figure there are enough pics on this site to fill calendars for many years.

If the profit goes to the right place feel free to use Rogers pictures or let me know anad I will send high quality color corected versions.
How fun-- what a great idea! I'm a graphic designer and could definitely lend a hand whether it be actually working on it or just giving advice on production. We'd definitely need new high quality images. I've designed 2 different calendars myself but there are also calendar producing companies that put everything together for you. I've had dealings with this company and they've been very nice too: http://www.collegehillpress.com/index.cfm

We have an awful lot of dogs for only 12 months though!
Maybe the calendar should be a daily tear off, that way we could have 365 days of sheepies. Of course, the only bad thing about that is that none of us would want to throw away the old ones. :P
I can just see it- my desk full of little square pages of oes pics! What a great idea. What does our master blaster Ron think, I wonder?

Karen :)
Oh Boy, Oh Boy!!! A Daily calendar would be awesome!! Count us in for whatever help may be needed.

Maybe a monthly sheepie collage?
Great idea! Maybe everyone could submit pictures. I'm not computer literate either but can pitch in on whatever you need.

I like the idea of a monthly collage; that way we could get the maximum exposure of everyone who would want to participate. Could we get some thoughts on what to avoid to not offend anyone if we have to limit the entries or what minimum standards might be required for submission.

Butterstotch: if we're to shoot for a 1996 calendar, what kind of deadlines would we need for submission.

Ron: could we temporarily have a separate forum for this thread to facilitate discussion? What are your thoughts on the subject. Hello... :D

I nominate Paula and Butterstotch as chairpersons for the project. Any seconds?
College Hill Press does not do calendar lots of less than 2000.

Vendors willing to do smaller lots may be found on Ebay. Also, a person can do a decent personal calendar using certain available software.

Sharing a bit of information . . .

I think it would be neat to do a calendar in some form. Not sure doing a big lot would be a wise move.
I'll bet we could sell 2000. We could network with OES breeders through AKC; advertise on the AKC Web; Many breeder might want to send them to their puppy owners as Christmas gifts. The down side is that we would have to choose pics with an eye to their appeal.
Hi all,
I've been really really busy lately, working on lots of website stuff.

As chairperson of NEOESR's merchandise and logo merchandise, Joan created a calendar for the year 2000. The result was break even for the organization, and it was just a simple plain canvas silk-screened calendar. The push to sell them before they became worthless was quite an ordeal.

A calendar is very time-sensitive by its very nature, and guessing the amount to be sold is a very difficult thing. Also, making it an oes.org calendar specifically for charity could entail some legal hassles that I don't care to get into at the moment.

There is a calendar that has been produced yearly by a lady in Canada for the OES-L... it runs about $21US I think, and she does it based on advance orders. I will send her an email and ask her if she'd have any interest in duscussing this. How does that sound?

EDIT: I have sent the email...
Well I got a reply, and she thinks it's a great idea. Now we just need to convince her to pop on over here and talk to us about it! ;)
Hey if a calendar is to much trouble and time sensitive how about a saying of the day with cute pictures on one of those desk top ring binder things that you flip over, or a small book like a kids book.
What about a blank calendar where you are only provided spaces, you fill in the month and days. That way it could be a calendar, appointment book or journal and could be sold for several years, it wouldn't go out of date.
Well, If we really want a calendar for the benefit of sheepdog organizations without having to shell out cash for the screenprinting, DanitaShop can help. All our products are printed and shipped on demand, so there's no need to have stock. You just go ahead and order and they are printed right away. The profit is lower and the prices maybe a little higher that your regular screenprinted calendars, but there is 0 risk... And I'm sure NEOESR would sell a ton of them!
I'll second George's nomination of Paula and ButtersStotch if they agree.
I like the idea of the flip over calender. Without the year we wouldn't have to tear out any pics and it would never be out of date. Count me in!
Sounds like a great idea. I don't know you you have Zehr's, Loblaws, or Fortino's grocery stores over there, but their photolabs will make up calendars for usually around 12-15 dollars. You submit either the pics or the negatives, and it only takes an hour to make 10 of them. I've done it many times when I worked there.
I also think all profit from this calendar idea should go towards the maintenance of the forum. This forum benefits not only all rescues, it also benefits all oes lovers who come here, and in many cases, helps people avoid bringing their dog to rescue in the first place. JMO
Cafepress, the company that we use for printing all of our products, sells the calendars for about $10 or $12 dollars, including shipping and profit por whomever sells them. We could set up a separate account on cafepress for the calendar and have the profit checks sent directly to whatever organization we want to the profit be assigned to.

All we will need wil be very high resolution images for the chosen pictures (Probably the best is to scan the real pictures, tweak them in whatever way we want then upload them to the calendar and send the files for the final product)

I like that scheme because no one would have to handle the shipping or the risk of having calendars in stock, they take the orders, print and ship the stuff. They only print whatever sells and nothing more.

Our 2 Cents
Roger, I think that is a GREAT idea. That would be something usable for YEARS!!!!!
it sounds fantastic i hope you are going to be able to ship there afew of us in the uk that would love these :D
