Running Hop... does your dog do this?

I've been meaning to ask this question for awhile now. I've noticed that Levi doesn't run like my other two dogs or even like any of the other sheepies that we met at SheepieFest. I've never seen a sheepdog (or any other dog!) hop/bounce when running.

Here are some typical shots of what Levi looks like in full gallop

See how that rear is always in the air?

Levi is most definitely an Old English, but he is too slender, tall, and long to be standard.

He doesn't seem to be in any pain or seems bothered by his stride, I was wondering... does any other board member have a dog that does this? Does anyone think that he may have a luxating patella that is popping in and out of socket... or is he just part rabbit?

But, yes I think Aska does it sometimes :)
dreamer does this all the time he is very tall 32 high not sure why
Any time some one mentions bunny hopping I think bad hips...BUT rear typically isn't that far off the ground  more like rear legs move very closely together.

Maybe just due to interesting structure?

I agree Kristine, I would wonder about congenital changes in shape and/or orientation of the actual hip joint, as this would mean that Levi may not be able to extend his hips very well.

What happens then is he flexes forward at the hip and then as he drives through into extension the movement gets pulled up short due to lack of flexion. The energy in the shortened drive then makes his butt pop up in the air.
We had one who ran just like that and he had horrible knees. We had another who ran like that and had perfect knees and hips, but just ran funny.

I don't know if it's a concern, but you could show the pictures to your vet/mention it next time, just to be sure.
