What age for dog seat belt?

Hi everyone!

We're just wondering at what age a sheepie can start using a dog seat belt? Our little Mika already loves car rides so we need a safe solution. Does anyone have recommendations for specific types of seat belts or harnesses?

And the posts about attention are so on target... we can't walk a block without getting accosted by "oohs and ahhs"... she seems to like the lovin'. :)

Merci!

:)

I think it depends on the dog. Ive seen the harnesses on small breeds and sheepdogs even as puppies are bigger than those. Maybe try short trips first with one of those harnesses then see how it goes?

How old is your dog? Does he like the car?
We start them out right away with a seat belt.

The same seat belt in the picture above was a little too big for my son's Boxer, Bell. LOL

I like this seat belt design but I don't like the plastic clips. They're all buckled up very time they ride in the car.
Jaci, where did you get those seatbelts? They look very secure.
I got the last one here... Bumble needed a bigger one.

I kind of like the design of this one better... http://usak9outfitters.com/CCSS.htm
I think this is the same one but I'm not certain- http://www.chicagocanine.com/seatbelt/seatbelt.html

Not that I'm knowledgeable about dog seat belts but it seems that the metal ring and webbing would be taking the stress rather than plastic clips. There IS a plastic clip but that appears to just be holding the belt in the proper position. But I wish the chest area had some padding... but that might not be necessary for safety.

Or maybe a PetBuckle seat belt. It looks like it has more of a seat belt type clip but again, I'm not certain.

Also, keep the dog in the back seat of the car... it's said to be the safest location.
Thanks. Oliver and Lucy ALWAYS ride in the back seat; it's safer for them and us. They are getting seat belts for Christmas though :clappurple: !
Yay! :D Lucky puppers!

Good thing they aren't human kids.
A seat belt would probably rank right up there with underwear or socks for Christmas.
