What an interesting twist of fate...Rudy and Malarki

On the day that Rudy had emergency surgery, my parents' dog, Malarki, was waiting for exploratory surgery. He went in around noon, and the news was not good.

He had a huge tumour on his pancreas, and it was affecting his liver and his gallbladder. It had caused a blockage in the gallbladder, and the vet drained it.

He said it was a strange looking tumour, and they took a biopsy. He said that although they were waiting for results, he probably had a few months, possibly a year, but that the decision would ultimately be based on quality of life.

This was the same day that Rudy had his surgery and his chances of survival were limited.

Needless to say, it was a horrible day for my family.

Now Rudy's all over the place, acting like nothing ever happened, and my mom got a call from the vet. Keep in mind that he's a really good, well known vet in this part of the country. You won't find anyone with more experience and skills. Many people are referred to him from all over Western Canada.

He's never seen anything like this before. It's rare. (And I gave you his background so you know it's not like he's fresh out of vet college or anything. This man KNOWS stuff.)

Malarki's pancreatitis bout was so severe that his pancreas reacted in a most unusual (but not impossible) way. It reacted by putting on a layer of fat. This weird fat turned out to be the tumour. It's not only benign, but in time his body will reabsorb it.

In short...he's going to be fine.

Friday was the worst day ever for us, and by Tuesday things have completely turned around.

I know it's the day after Thanksgiving for us, but we've never been more grateful.

Oh Tracie,
Thats wonderful news for you and your family. I haven't had time to check the forum until now. I'm so glad to hear that Rudy is doing so well. Also glad to hear Malarki's good news. Your parents have to be releaved.

Keep up the good work, hugs to Rudy and Malarki.

Oh... my... goodness!! That is totally awesome news. :yay:
I'm thrilled that both of the puppers in your family are on the mend.
8O 8O 8O 8O WoW!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Please impress upon Malarki's parents, no more over feeding. That poor gall bladder, pancreas, liver, etc has been under severe attack......surely the vet bill should make them (her) careful with the food.
Awesome news!!
wow, amazing malarki and what the body can do to overcome. 8O
That is great news!!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
Woohoo!!! Talk about miracles! And now - double miracles!! :clappurple: :clappurple:

Congrats to you both on getting many more years with your babies. :clappurple:
I'm way behind in this section and I'm just catching up. Holy crap, what an ordeal! I'm so glad that he's doing well and everything worked out okay. (In a way I'm glad that I just started reading this now because I just get the good news!)

And it's also awesome and interesting about your parents' dog, too. Is he going to get a cool writeup in a vet journal? My sister had a cat with the largest tumor on record for her age and that's her claim to fame now. :)
Best news ever for both families.

Wow wow wow! I am so excited for you and your family! This is incredible! I've been thinking of Rudy and Malarki so much this last week, hoping and praying that they would heal and recover. This is such awesome news!
