dog friendly Honda Element

I bought a mini van - VW Routan - for my guys. There is lots of room and hopefully will go to Sheepiepalooza next year. But I love the Honda Element. Anyone have one? this is a new option

2011 Honda Element – Dog Friendly Package

Your opinion of this next feature might be determined by whether or not you have paws and a tail. If you do—or happen to live with a creature that does—then the “Dog Friendly package” offered in the Honda Element could be your (second) best friend. For $995, this option package adds pooch-friendly features like a custom-fitted, soft-sided crate, spill-resistant water bowl, electric cooling fan mounted in the cargo bay, portable ramp, dog-patterned rear seat covers and heavy-duty dogbone- patterned floormats. Extra accessories include a leash, collar, ID tag and, yes, even a dispenser for dog-waste bags. Exterior paw-print badges on the tailgate and front fenders lets everyone know you’re a proud dog owner—as if being constantly covered in Fido’s hair wasn’t proof enough.

Several folks here have Elements and love them.

When we were car shopping we looked at the Elements but decided since we had 6 dogs at the time and often loaded everyone up for the $$$$$ vet visit, we'd go with the Odyssey, a decision I've never regreted, though dog population is down to 4.

I haul more than dogs, often very large quanitities of items and just needed a larger area, though having an easier wipe up area would be nice. I don't know about the doggie package, how much would I really use them? For others making daily trips to the dog park or other, yeah, I could see the benefits.

Good choice on the Routan. Chrysler builds that for VW up in the Windsor, Ontario plant.
It's a tweaked Caravan/Town and Country.
remember to make sure there is room for my guys :clappurple:
I bought mine a convertable, and they LOVE it. The Elements are nice, but my sister's Airedale got quite upset that the back windows don't roll down.

I have an Element and it's been the best dog car that I could ask for (without resorting to a van). I haul around all three of my big dogs in it with plenty of room for them and when I travel just with my show dog, all of my stuff and his tack fits easy, too. Mine's just a regular Element but the dog package sounds great, too. If you can run the fan in the cargo area while the car is off, that would be a huge seller for me.
Same for me. I love my Element. And I've had 3 minivans before this - really wanted to go a different route this time.

I've looked at the dog package, and it doesn't seem that great. Too cutesy - and not that usable in reality. Like Jill mentioned - the fan would be the only real part I would utilize. The rest of the time I am very loaded, with specific equipment on my trips. Dog shows with either conformation stuff - tackbox, grooming table, crates, etc. Or weight pull, sledding, lots of packs and such.

I do love the ability to easily reconfigure it, and the unbeatable packing/storage abilities in a relatively small SUV type vehicle. And the easy to clean flooring and seats are a lifesaver

What dog wouldn't love all that freedom of a convertible!! All that wind in the face is my dog's heaven.

Everyone I know who has an element loves it!! If we didn't have kids, I'd probably get one.
I do agree about the window part, though. I wish the Element had a window that rolled down in the back. Lucy was so bummed that she couldn't stick her head out. What you can do though, is push the passenger seat all the way up and that gives a dog enough room to squish in from the back and stick a head out. Of course, that only works with no passengers. Luckily, the boys grew up with the Element so they don't know what they're missing. :)
I Love 'em because my husband works at Honda ;) I drive a CRV...

My Airedale is the same way. He will do whatever he can to get to an open window. He needs something blowing on his face in the car.
Sometimes I can satisfy that by directing a vent at his face and turning the fan to high. He'll stick his nose right against the vent and just keep it there. Of course this is if I let him onto the front seat, which does happen sometimes.
I love the look of the Element and did not think it could hold the two sheepies and luggage etc... Sounds like it can. The mini van has a ton of room. That is the good part but I am just not used to saying I drive a minivan. hahahahah I do have the VW Beetle convertible also - that is so much fun! My sheepies only use it for photos ops. hahahaha Have not tried have them in it with the top down yet.
Is it true about the Element - you can hose it down inside?

I hope you get the car that works for you and your dogs soon. I wanted to comment about the convertable...Violet loves to ride in my Mustang Convertable..of course with a doggy seatbelt on. She loves the wind blowing on her, and all the attention she gets when people see a Sheepdog go by sitting up in the backseat. Many surprised looks. :D
I have the Dodge Grand caravan and love it. Looked at the Honda Element. It got a five star rating for pet friendly from one of my doggy magazines. It has the seats that fold back in the back allowing for room. However, my two crates did not fit in it...But it got a super write up.

We got the Grand Caravan, took out the furtherest rear seats and the other set folded into the floor allowing us to out in two GIANT crates with room for human gear too. Love it!
