novice obedience

I have been working with Bella on my one since I got her almost a year ago. she liked that sheep herding trial so much I decided to do some lessons with her. In prep I figured that some regular classes would be in order as well to firm up our off leash work (we only do that at home). They had us sign up for beginner and said we could change if needed. Well Bella did great even with the two crazy braking beagles in the class. I thought she might try to herd them since they were not under control.

so I kept peeking over at the ring next to us during our class. Turns out that is the novice class. I spoke with the trainer of that class and the person who runs the whole thing.....She was watch Bella it turns out. They said that next week we could jump into that class. She thought the next class up from beginner would still be to easy for her. So this is my question....since we "missed" the first class does anyone have the run down as to what is covered???? I would like to start to practice some of the things that they were doing just to get "up to speed" He did mention to practice the stand for exam which we haven't done at all but any other heads up???

It really can vary from place to place. Is it an intro to Novice class? Where you are just learning the exercises?
Or is it a class to polish up when you are ready for competition? (That is what the novice classes are here)

Novice exercises are on lead heeling (heeling - fast, slow, normal, about turns, left and right turns, automatic sits when you halt.), figure 8 (heeling in an 8 pattern around 2 people), then the lead is removed, next is stand for exam (dog stands, you leave 6 feet, a person exams the dog, then you return to heel position without your dog moving), do the same heeling pattern off lead, then recall across the ring - off lead. These are all done one dog at a time. Then you come back in for group long sit (1 minute) and long down (3 minutes) - both off lead, people across the ring.

Classes are fun. Most students at this level are all doing things at different levels. Beginner classes are pretty much a group progression. Not in the classes after that. All dogs learn different things at different rates. Some exercises are simple to some dogs, but hard for others. So, you usually see a lot of disparity from dog to dog.

It sounds like they are working to get you guys in the class that is the best fit. :D
last night they were doing everything on lead, fast slow heal, turns in both directions. I didn't happen to see if they did the figure of 8 but when they returned to their dog they did go around them as I am used to from my prior classes. So can I assume that the off leash work will come over the next few weeks????? I have also added the "watch me" command for Bella since I need her to pay attention better for when we are around the sheep. Is there a web site with the exercises listed???
