EARS!!!!!

I have had Ryleigh for about 6 weeks now and I cant get her ears healthy! She was neglected for 7 months by her previous owner, totally matted, under weight, collar way to tight... so Im guessing her ears NEVER got cleaned. I have cleaning solution as well as antibioctic drops from the vet and we had the hair removed from deep inside which was nasty. But it doesnt seem to end, big clumps of dark brown wax keeps coming out. I dont know how she could even hear when we first got her! Im taking her back to the vet to see what more is in there, hoping it starts to clear up soon. Poor baby shakes her head and scratches at her ears all the time. The medicine seems to soothe it some but it wont clear up. She is sooo sweet and loveing I just dont understand how anyone could mistreat her so bad!

If anyone has any other ideas let me know, other wise I will just keep cleaning goop out of her ears. :(

Hi get the vet to swab the discharge from her ears to verify wether it is a yeast infection, mites, or just a general infection to know firstly what you are dealing with and how to clear it up. Yeast is harder and usually allergy related and might take 2 courses of the correct ear drops to settle it down.

With a swab the vet should be able to tell you straight away what is causing the problem, they look under the microscope to assess the swab to see what you are dealing with, with the ears. It really has to be verified so you can have a hope of clearing it up.

Best wishes and hoping your babies ears settle soon, no fun when ears flare.
They did do a swab and check it, I cant remember what they said it was, its been six weeks, lol But they gave me a len Haven cleaning solution and Remicin ointment to use. Ive been using it and stuff has been coming out, it just doesnt seem to stop coming out. Her ears dont have any odor to them just tons of wax build up coming out. Ill have them do another swab tomorrow and see if she needs something more done. It just makes me soo mad because this could have been prevented by her previous owners with a little TLC.
lisaoes- I just clicked on your link and was looking at your pictures. Your babies are gorgeous!!! The blue eyes on that one are insane! You must be a proud momma and full of love! :D
so at the vet again today. She has a double whammy in her ears. Yeast and bacterial infection in both. They are stiil keeping her on the same cleaning solution and drops just uping it to 2 times a day instead of once a day. Hope it clears up so, I feel bad for my baby.
Ear infections can be quite painful. Poor baby! The dosage of twice a day sounds right. If it does not clear or reoccurs shortly after, ahve a culture done. We went through this with my dog and once it was finally cultured, we found it to be the MRSA virus.

Hope your baby continues to imporve. And thank goodness you got her out of that neglectful situation!
Thanks, she is so good about letting me clean them. She is such a little love baby. Doesnt care what you do to her as long as you love her and cuddle at night she is happy.

BTW love the pic of your big sheepie with the little sheepie. too cute :)
