As the World Turns... NO MORE :(

I'll admit it. I have a vice. I LOVE to watch the soap opera As the World Turns. As a kid, I loved it because my Grandma watched it. It was so out of character for her-- a very down to earth, no nonsense woman--- who loved her "stories". I think it was her "Calgon, take me away" moment in the afternoons. Right after "dinner" and before "supper" was started, in the summer we would sit down and watch the life of Nancy Hughes and her family. I always loved it when other cousins were staying the same week I was. We would lay down in front of the big console TV. Grandma always had a cup or two of Folgers ( good to the last drop) coffee, and Pecan Sandie cookies. We had milk and Grandma's ginger snaps. I always thought it odd that Grandma choose Pecan Sandies over homemade ginger snaps! I would watch it all through the summer, and then when it was time to return to school, I would keep up to date with the little daily soap "blurb" in the local paper.

Christmas vacation and school holidays, you would find me in front of the TV in the living room. My Freshman year, I got a small black and white "portable" for my room. OMG-- I was in heaven!!! No more fighting with my brothers and little sister when they wanted to watch afternoon cartoons, such as 'Speed Racer" or Flippo the Clown. (Columbus born and bred! )

High school continued-- graduation--- college--- marrige. And STILL I was a fan.

The invention of the VCR brought the Huges and Stewart family into my evening routine. That was great, because I could Fast Forward through commercials.

Betsy and Steve- Kim and Bob- Lilly and Holden. They are like family. And now--- their world has been cancelled. BOO- HISS!

This Friday the last episode of my vice will air. Such memories! Not only of crazy story lines, and unbelievable characters, but of times spent with family and friends, and the fun we had being transformed to another kind of life!

I'll miss you "As the World Turns" RIP.

I refuse to say what I watch ...and I really shouldn't be replying to this thread, but I am VERY thankful that my show isn't ending. :P

Okay, I'll confess because I'm terrible about keeping my mouth shut... I used to watch Passions in college and that ended ...well went to some channel I didn't have ...and I had the same tears. Even more when I realized the guy I totally was into ...was doing male p0rn. There went my hopes and dreams w/him!! That's when I had to take on a new show. :)
I also have been watching off and on thru the years since the age of 10....that's 45 years...wow...will miss it but not some of the storylines in the last couple of years...after awhile they seem to redo the same storylines...people keep remarrying, don't tell him it's his baby, kidnappings, ....could almost write the script but loved the characters of Bob, Kim, Lisa, Barbara, Margo...have missed them over past years as their storylines have been small. Lisa was always in love and getting married...don't know how many husbands but it has to be close to Elizabeth Taylor in real life! It's amazing how I could keep up with the storyline and I worked 35 years...summers would catch me up! My other favorite was Guiding Light which also ended...Also disappointed in the cancellation of Bonnie Hunt...how can people watch Maury over Bonnie Hunt? So little good on daytime anymore or nighttime for that matter...it's all reality tv now...

Days of our lives? Young and the Restless? All my Children?? Fess up!
Coronation Street here, but don't tell the forum members from the U.K., they are a year ahead of us in Canada, so they will spill the beans as to what is going to happen.

It brought back some memories to hear you refer to ATWT as 'stories'. My mother used to call it the same thing, and woe be unto the child who interfered with it! I seem to recall a wooden spoon being waved about.
Couldn't they just start airing episodes from the beginning of the show?
I didn't know. I am so glad I saw this so I can DVR tomorrow's episode! I remember watching this with my mom since I was about 3 years old (over 30 years). She would do the ironing while we watched. I watched it most of my young life and still watch it here and there over the past 10 years. My mom still watches it almost every day and keeps me updated on things. I grew up with Lily and Holden! I remember when Juliann Moore was Frannie Hughes! And then she had a twin! LOL Always loved to hate Lucinda Walsh.... Margo and Bob and Hal Munson.

Thanks for posting this. I would have been sad to not have known. :)
