We took a dog to Hawaii!!!

Well, this wasn't actually a vacation, but we took Winston a rescue dog from Minnesota, from Boston to Hawaii in January.

We had to wait four months to accommodate quarrantine regulations, and had to pray for good (ie warm) weather at the start of the trip. But we made it!

We stopped in LA for a day to give everyone including Winston a little breather, then on to Honolulu for the end of the journey.

Anyone else travel this far?

Ron,

Not travel related, but how is Winston doing? It was him that first got me involved in the forum. I checked in every day to see your travel updates!
The furever family tends to be on the private side, and doesn't communicate with us much at all. We are disappointed by that, but it is certainly their right and it goes with the job of fostering. We had a great time with Winston, he is a real sweetie! He was so eager to learn, and so in need of reassuring, he just brought out the nurturing instinct. It was really worth the sadness of parting with him after a wonderful 4 months.

Last we heard was in January, at just about the one year anniversary of his trip. Winston was doing very nicely, Although he is apparently still quite a timid dog with occasional accidents in the house. The furever home found another OES mix right in the Islands and took him in, and the two apparently have a blast together, romping in their little fenced in part of Paradise.

We're taking Dermott and his Bichon Frise accomplice to Italy next month for two years. It's a 27-hour flight from Australia with a stopover.
Hey! You get to skip winter!

I hope you don't have two in a row when you come back!!!

Sounds like a great adventure! Is this work related? Will you still stop by the forum? Can we follow along on your trip as your mascot? :D

(Can I fit into your luggage, or crate...?)

Yep! Two summers in a row. Two hot summers in a row. An Italian summer is just as hot as an Australian summer. Dermott will have his puppy cut for the heat before we leave. If I can organise a decent broadband connection, I'll post pics of Dermott sucking on a glass of Chianti!

No, it's not work-related. It's a very well-deserved 2-year break from anything and everything. The only way you'll fit in the luggage is if you toss out everyone else who has threatened to hide there! :D
