I need some ideas on baby books

I am going to be a Grandma again around Halloween for my son Adam and his wife Lauren are expecting. :clappurple: The "Family" shower is 9/11 and the people giving the shower have asked us to attach a book to the gift instead of cards. They want us to write something to the baby in the book, which is a great idea. So I need some suggestions here from some of you new Moms/Dads/anyone with an opinion of any baby books that are out that you don't mind reading a million times. I won't be able to be at the shower, we've planned our trip to be there once the baby is born(we're in FL they are in MI)...so I need to buy the book, the gift is already on it's way, to mail out on Tuesday. I know Lauren is doing the baby room in the Theme of DR SEUSE.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. No, we don't know what sex the baby is, they want to wait for the surprise.

Thank you in advance!

Do you want to go with the Dr Seuss theme?
I love the original - The Cat in The Hat.
Also, Green Eggs and Ham, Red Fish Blue Fish.
My favorite children's book is "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. It is a classic from my generation and if you have never read it, you are in for a treat. Makes me cry every time, it is almost like a modern day prodical son story. Congratulations on baby to be!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know you have to be thrilled!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

All my kids couldn't appreciate many classics until they were 2+ but each could not get enough of

That's my puppy
Dear Zoo
and... Peek a Who? are WONDERFUL 6-18 month books!!
All three are also the first books used to get lil J (who is 4) to start reading himself.

They're so simple but all three of my kids will go through them a million times!
At 3, Dr. Seuss became a favorite here too though!
Very special..."On the Day You Were Born" by Debra Frasier I think...even better a year later if you can find the video of it and performed by Minnesota Orchestra and narrated by author...just beautiful and very special...I gave it to my daughter when she was 21...we now pull it out and read each year on birthday!

Congratulations!!!
Love You Forever (and/or any number of Robert Munsch books)
A nice collection of fairy tales
The very hungry caterpillar (and anything by Eric Carle)
Love You Forever

Mercer Meyer Little Critter books:
Just for You
Grandma and Me
Grandpa and Me

Shel Silverstein:
Anything

Caldecott Winners and BlueBonnet Winners are always good choices.

I would suggest the autographed "keeper" book and a second copy for the baby & parents to actually use.
congrats you must be so excited. i have a 17m old and we enjoy of all things childrens bible stories. its not for all families but it works for us. other books im not tired of yet anything by sydh off, laura numeroff and mercer mayer. dont forget clifford the big red dog. also there is a board book titled DOGS that is a ton of fun. tails wiggle, there is soft fur and ears to feel and as a bonus it has a sheepie!
I would like to add: a nice Mother Goose book. There are beautiful board Mother Goose books as well as some with paper pages. I haven't had reason to look at baby books for a long time but there have been some beautiful (and child friendly) illustrated books with these classics.

Along those lines: I loved fairy tales as a child as did all of my children. In fact, I still love a well written fairy tale.

If you want something less....classic, shall we be kind to me and say: The Napping House, and Where the Wild Things Are is wonderful as is Sendak's The Nutshell Library (ok, so these are old enough that we have a copy of my husband's Nutshell Library). Good Night Moon is also a wonderful young child's book. Winnie the Pooh! The Golden Library has many!
I frequently give books as a baby shower gift.

My absolute favorite is -

Each Peach Pear Plum

by Janet and Allan Ahlberg

It is an nursery rhyme themed I Spy book that is perfect for a baby as young as one years old is capable of pointing to the pictures. Very interactive.

My second favorite is -

Moo Baa La La La

by Sandra Boynton

It is a cute rhyming book that uses animals sounds which again is great for young ones learning words. My boys started talking as early as nine months. Again, very interactive.

Both books come in a board book version.

Those two books almost always make it into my book gifts.

I also like the idea of Nursery Rhymes or Mother Goose. Anything to encourage reading to children at the very youngest age possible. These books are appropriate for the attention span of a less than one year old child.

Congratulations Grandma!
I'm a big fan of Shel Silverstein and Maurice Sendak! They may be a bit advanced for a baby, but they will be great to have as they grow.
I know this is late but perhaps a christmas idea.....my all time favorite book "I like it when" by Mary Murphy! Sweet book about a penguin and his parent. Both my boys have loved this book.
