Poor fella. It's so sad to see a senior just being "given" away.

yes :(. I wonder about the backstory. It's not like you suddenly realize after many years that your oes needs space :(

Oh good....he has papers and is not neutered!
Poor boy...I hope somebody responsible adopts him! :(
I just don't get this... for me this would be just like saying well, my 17 year daughter old has outgrown her room so if you want her come take her. Heartbreaking! And what must the dogs think when they are suddenly taken away?

I don't know if you know the backstore on our American Bulldog but basically he just wandered into our yard while we were putting up Christmas lights last year. He was clearly looking for a Human to help him. We posted pics everywhere, registered with all of the lost pet sites, craiglist etc. No one was looking for him. SAD. So we took him in fattened him up and thought we found him a good home. After a few months the friend brought him back saying he had to move into an apartment complex that does not allow dogs. We couldn't look at those eyes and give him away again, so he is now ours.....forever. I would live in a Tent by the river if I had to in order to keep my dogs (and Shelly the Tortoise). I just don't understand people.
I'm in Louisville so if someone is interested in this dog I can go see him. I think Taylorsville is only 30/45 minutes from here.
I have to agree with kfb. Isn't it like suddenly deciding to give away your 9 year old child? It must be devastating to the poor old dogs & it breaks my heart every time I read an ad looking for relocation for an elderly animal. You can't help wonder what type of home life they already had & perhaps finding a new, more stable home for their last few years, is actually better for them. :x Some people!?#%

If nobody from rescue has yet contacted them do you mind contacting them to see if he is still available?
Thank you for offering!!!!
I called about 20 minutes ago and left a message. No return call yet but whatever I hear I'll pass along.

Thank you very much!!!
Thanks so much for your efforts, Holly.

I also wrote to the owner yesterday and gave them KY rescue contact information and a list of questions they can ask anyone who contacts them. I haven't heard back from anyone. Hoping this ol' guy finds a good home.
I am guessing still no word on this dog...
If anybody does hear anything and a closer rescue
is not available please let me know!
Poor dude!
I talked to the owner. His name is Winston Churchhill, age 9, from a breeder in Fort Knox. He was a house dog until he reached 1, then "got big and hairy" and since then has been outside. This is the owners THIRD OES so I wonder why she wouldn't know how large and hairy he would get  . I did talk to her about giving Winston to rescue and she seemed okay with that after I explained how it works. He isn't dog/cat aggressive and utd on shots, etc. He does go to a groomer and is kept in a puppy cut. After talking to Nita and Denise I called the owner back to see if she could keep him for a few more days but no return call so far. Nita has a line for a foster in Louisville and Denise or I can pick him up  . That's about all I know so far, hopefully she calls me back :crossed:
Thanks for the update!
I hope the owner will call back.

Thanks too to you, Denise and also Nita with Midwest OES Rescue for trying to assist this boy!

Thanks for the update!!
I'd like to thank Holly for calling Winston to my attention while I was out of town. Denise and Angie drove out to pick up Winston and Angie fostered him until I returned. Thanks to all of them!

Please don't feel sorry for this "old dude". He's anything BUT what you may think a senior OES would be. He's strong as an ox and Angie had some trouble handling him so he's with us for now. We're currently working on walking on loose leash because I've never had a dog pull quite like this. (Dawn, I think he could out-pull Chewie!) He's very smart so he'll eventually get it but for now he's just happy to be out sniffing the new smells and wants to run, run run! He's not housebroken but is doing well with the crate and it shouldn't take him long for that to click as well. He will be neutered on Friday and while he's out he's going to have a dental done. He does have some nasty teeth. Other than that, this guy is energetic, athletic, smart, eager to please and appears to be in great health. He will be on Petfinder shortly if anyone is interested in adopting a great dog. Any of us who have adopted seniors know they're very special but this guy is exceptional!
I saw him on facebook today and I am in loooovee! Wish I had room for a sweet senior!
Thanks to everyone for helping this boy! :hearts:
Update: Winston was at the vet this morning and has tested positive for heartworms.   On a positive note, he will be treated for them soon. Please think good thoughts for this big strong guy as he goes through the treatment and will have two months of restricted activity. Keeping this boy down will be the hard part!
Hope Mr Winston does well with his HW treatment, neuter and dental. He will be a whole new dog!

There's always time to work on his weight pull (er...training!) later
Positive thoughts for Winston! The seniors are the best! I failed fostering because of one. Although I only had him for a year and a half it was so very rewarding. I know that he knew love the last year or so of his life, even if not in his earlier years. Thanks Nita for taking care of this "old" guy.
