Lunging at cars while in the car

Winnie is in the car twice a day every day during the work week because I take her to doggy day care. For the past 18 months she's been good, just napping or looking out the window. (She is now just over 2 years old.) Our trip takes about 20 minutes each way.

Just this past week, she has started to "lunge" at the car window when we're on a two lane road and another car passes us going the opposite direction. I am baffled; she has never done this before.

Any ideas why she's started doing this and what I can do to stop it?

We do have a hammock/sling in the back seat, so I am also now looking for more of a restraint for her. Any seat belt restraint work best for these.... ummmm  ..."good" dogs?

Thanks.

She's herding.

Maggie does it too, mainly on 2 lane highways at trucks going fast in the opposite direction. It can be very startling. The harness with a seatbelt attachment may help limit her movement but not necessarily the instinct or the quick bark (if she does that). For parts of our long-distance roadtrip, I was able to keep a folding SUV crate in the car and put Maggie in there when she was acting up. That kept her quiet. In a regular car. . . I dunno. Maybe those window sunscreens for babies would help obscure her view? I would definitely try the harness though.
This is very annoying. Simon has taught Gar how to do this...so now I have two going nuts when:there is a bike, motorcycle, person walking or just standing there.

I have tried to stop it but the only way I know is the crate. When we went on vacation this past summer and on the way home, Simon decided to come into the front seat come hell or high water...he is in a crate when we go someplace that is not within a few miles of the house.

He doesn't like it but tough, learn to behave.
My Beatrice and Rolf do this to.
I put limo tint on the back windows so they can not see out. This seems to work for me.
If they can't see it they don't bark.
Mo did this for years. Thank goodness for age! She was hard on a harness, the crate worked better. So glad when she stopped that silliness.

Jack just wants to supervise driving. He is most comfortable standing (or sitting) between the front seats.......if I don't but down the tray between the seats, he stands on it. He needs a seat belt. (at least he doesn't herd, he may try to bark but Mom stops that)
There was an episode on Victoria Stillwell dealing with two sheepies that did just that and barked as well. what she did was put up a screen to block their vision and also close them off from the driver. If they were good the screen came down, bad it went up. After some tries they figured it out that they needed to stay quiet or it was a boring ride. I would think that the sun block screens would work just as well as what she did on the show. Maybe you can search for the show on google and see it in action. it was pretty impressive how quick they caught on.
