Trimming

We are in the process of cutting Summers hair. We always leave the head until last as we are unsure of how to do it!
I have searched the site is there any help anywhere? I want to leave her top knot in but am unsure about length on her ears. thanks.

I think most people just 'box' the ears. You cut the hair so that it is all one length rather than in a triangle shape.

Here's an example:

Just cut across where the hair seems to be longest on the side of the ear.
I pick a length that matches the chin/lower face. So they match in proportion. If I trim the goat beard, the ears get it too!

Then I use the underside as a guide and follow the contour of the ear, trimming a uniform length off all the way around. Lastly, I layer it a bit, so it doesn't hang in one heavy blunt chunk. That way it looks more like a natural ear would if the hair was just growing out. :D
