Speaking about TV shows

Does anyone watch the Animal version of "Cops" on the Pet Channel? I kind of missed the beginning of the story but last week they had this neglected OES. The caretaker (not the owner) kept the collar on too tight and it ended up putting a huge gash in the dog's neck around 3" or so deep. The OES ended up getting fixed up but they ended up giving the dog back to the owner who seemed shocked that the person looking after his dog would have caused this injury. My observation was that the injury happened over time so I don't know why they felt they should give the OES back to the owner since obviously he seemed to have some responsibility in this situation. I was aghast and was wondering what happened to this dog when the credits rolled on the program it said 2002. I believe it was filmed in NYC someplace. Does anyone else know about this? Sorry if this has been posted about in the past.

If it's the one I'm thinking of the collar had to be removed during surgery. I would think that dog should not go back to it's owner(if you could call it that). There are so many wonderful people who would rescue the dog and give it great home. And why would someone even have a dog if they were going to leave it with a (not)caretaker? This should be treated as a criminal matter and appropriate action taken.
Agreed!
That was an NYC episode.
It was ridiculous that they gave the dog back. The owner may not have been able to care for the dog and left her with a caretaker but apparently he wasn't visiting or checking on her either.
I was unaware that you could be a part time owner.
Also, what changed in his situation that he would be taking care of his dog now? Will she just be left with someone else?
GRRRRRRR
Not to change the subject, but....
My Sister-in-law, who is a Champion Mini-Schnauzer breeder also has a boarding kennel. The same people leave there dogs there for months at a time while they go of to Europe or wherever. I don't believe that is fair to the dogs at all. (Don't get me wrong...My sister-in-law gives them lots of love an attention, but for the majority of the time they are in the kennel) If people are going to be traveling all the time they should either be bringing their dogs or should not have dogs at all.
As for the OES I also agree it should not have been returned to the owner.

Ed gets mad when I watch that show. I always cry!
I missed that one! I did see one over a year ago where an OES was shipped with a package actually surgically planted in her belly somewhere.
The dog was awaiting pick up and became very sick. The package hadn't
ruptured, but had caused an infection. The situation was such that nobody
ever intended for the dog to live beyond delivering the package. The sole
intent was for this animal to become a living breathing delivery box.
What is wrong with people?!

How can you 'own' a dog and not be aware of its health and conditions
What the heck IS a part time owner? How could you leave a pet with
someone who could let something like that happen? It totally sounds to
me like a copout and that this person really had more to do with the dogs
condition than being an absent owner!

I'm not sure if the OES that VerveUp is talking about is the same one that was adopted out by NEOESR after that episode was taped. The one I'm thinking about was named Grady thay maybe was changed to Lady or something to that effect. It seems like I remember this frome the OES-L thread.

Feel free to let me know if I'm wrong. 8)
