Hudson is still really freaked out.

I'm more than a little surprised that yesterday's Canada Geese Air Raid seems to have had a lasted impact on him. I kind of feel sorry I found it so funny yesterday.

After his angry pee in the house, he flat out, completely refused to go out the backdoor again. Around nine at night I decided enough was enough. I brought treats out to the deck, and scattered them. Rudy had the time of his life snarfling, but Hudson only came out, ate one, ran back inside, and then had to find one visually again before he'd venture out and grab it, returning right after. While he was running in or out his eyes were on the sky.

He would not pee either.

Hubby went to bed at eleven, and I came in about an hour later to take the dogs out once more before coming to bed. Rudy went happily, but Hudson had to be strongly encouraged to even come down to the main floor. He then hid in his kennel, and would not come out.

I plied him with treats, and managed (barely) to get him out on the deck with Rudy. Hudson was shaky and kept looking up at the dark sky. He would not do anything, and ran back in again. Finally I locked Rudy in with my husband, put Hudson on his leash, and walked him up and down the driveway/front lawn until he peed. This was great fun in the pitch black night, but it was effective and I didn't have to shampoo any carpet last night.

This morning he was definitely shaky, but he did go out with my hubby and peed very reluctantly. We've been trying really hard to minimize this for him, so that he'll get over it quickly, but I must admit I am surprised. He's never shown any evidence of being that skittish. He's had things startle him before, and he's reacted, but usually with curiosity, wanting to get in closer and see that interesting thing.

I'm hoping this is not going to become a habit for him. I hate to see him so fearful. Poor little Smudge!

In other news, Rudy went to the vet today and was very well behaved, even when the dreaded fingers went into his bottom. (I'm going to learn how to do it at home during our next visit.) Then he joined me at school and was calm and relaxed in my classroom. He's definitely invited back in the future!

Tonight's dinner was served al fresco, just outside the door on the scary deck. Hudson did come out and eat, but still paused to scan the sky from time to time. Then he did pee (on my plant...grrrrr) before coming in, so that's progress. I made him sit with me on the deck for a bit, and he wasn't happy but he managed.

I think we'll be dining outdoors for a while until this is over for him.
Ah poor guy, gotta take him someplace outside super fun so he relearns it's fun outside!
