Looking for a rescue in Maryland

So, we have decided that it is time to get another OES to add to the family! Right now we have Riley who is almost 2 years old, and she is ready for a friend! We got her from a breeder, but want to rescue this time. We are having a hard time finding many rescue OES's. We have an application in for one but have not heard anything back yet. We live in Maryland. If anyone knows of any available rescues, please let me know!!!
Thanks a lot!!

Have you checked Petfinder? They have over sixty listed right now. You can sort by location. You might find someone within driving distance.

If you're willing to be creative you might be able to widen your scope. We just adopted our Rudy from Florida. We live in Winnipeg (MB). I'm not saying it's for everyone. It was a lot of work and a huge amount of money, but it worked out great for us. We couldn't be happier.

Our local humane society will also take information about people looking for a specific breed. Yours might do the same, and alert you if someone comes in.

Good luck. We had a really frustrating experience for the first few weeks, and then a connection just worked out, and suddenly Rudy was on his way. It was excruciating waiting, and all in all it only took us a month to find a new family member. Here's hoping your new best friend is just around the corner!
We found our Ryleigh on craigslist. She was left in the backyard and abandoned when her family moved out. They put her on craigslist and said if she wasnt picked up the next day she was going to the pound. We drove an hour to get her and it was worth it. She was full of mats and stickers, her collar was almost embedded, and was under weight. But she is still the sweetest happy puppy ever. Took a shave down to clean her up but she is beautiful and happy now. Good Luck on your search. :D

Only about a third of them are OES. But that just begs the question: why not adopt one of those adorable shaggy mixes? 8)

Oh, I agree. I can't remember who has that awesome black shaggy mix on here, but I sigh everytime I see pictures of him!
Me? I just see lots of agility prospects 8)

There are some puppies as well if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry, it didn't occur to me to make the distinction between purebreds and crosses. Our first sheepie was a cross and I'd take in another in a heartbeat, with no reservations. We've had purebreds since simply because that's what was available at the time. Had there been a cross litter available they would have been equally considered. We aren't looking to show or to breed.

Rudy just happened to be purebred, but when Candy from the rescue first called and we spoke about him it didn't even come up. I think she mentioned it in passing a few conversations later...or at least that she was pretty sure. It's quite possible for a sheepie to be in rescue that looks purebred but isn't and you'd never really know. We think Rudy may be part gazelle, and that's fine with us.

If you're certain you want a purebred, then yes, that reduces the options on petfinder, but personally, I'd take every single one of them home in a heartbeat, especially the really "goofy" mixes...some of them are just too adorable for words.
I just have to add in about those mixes...and agility potentials!

My good dog friend and neighbor Donna (of the fabulous RV that we take to shows) has TFT's (toy fox terriers) and her husband has papillons....and they just had an "oops" litter. Dave's Pap Rhett got it on with Donna's TFT Nellie, and she had a whopping litter (for TFT's) of 4 pups. They are 4 weeks old now.
Both dogs are AKC and UKC Ch's, and both have been top 10 UKC ranked dogs in their respective breeds. So great lines...just not quite the same breed.....

Donna has them listed as great agility potentials on one of her lists - and they will be awesome for someone!

Daughter Lisa (who loves the littles and has had 2 min pins) is looking for a new pup. She went over last night and one of the little females picked Lisa...so little Vivian will be joining our family when she is a bit more grown up...ok, older as she's never really going to be big.
Lisa's rescue minpin is ancient and about on his last legs... :( and she really is hoping to have a pup to do stuff with.

And I look at all those cute OES mixes and think the same as Kristine! :cow:
