leg infections

Our Dog has developed and infection of some sort on his leg. From the foot to the Knee is all red, some open sores. We have saved the area. Vet has him on steriods, anti-biotics and a topical spray. We have to put a hood on him at night to keep him from licking it. Doc says he is positive that it is not a parasite? Any suggestions

Sounds like it's being treated pretty thoroughly. Follow the vet's advice carefully and monitor. When do you go back for a check?

One of our dogs had an infection and was on amoxil, but it got worse so we took him back quickly. Turned out it was a staph infection, and needed a different antibiotic. So, my only advice is watch it carefully and take your dog right back if things appear to get worse.

Keep it clean and definitely make sure he doesn't lick it. Good luck to you both.
Thanks for you reply...it makes me feel better. We'll keep an eye on his leg
I agree with Tracie follow the vets instructions to the letter and go straight back if it gets more red or swollen or looks worse to you in any way.

Tiggy had a nail bed infection late last year and the vet was saying we might have to remove the nail and the end of her toe.

She was on antibiotics for months and I had to bathe her toe morning and evening for weeks on end but she is fine now and still has all her toes.
