Why not leave him in the house, crated if necessary? No pet should be allowed to run loose around moving vehicles.
It's very dangerous to leave him where he can do this.

I second the idea of keeping him in an area of the house, or in a crate. We have two sheepies of our own. The trustworthy one gets the upstairs, three bedrooms, a hallway, and the computer room down the stairs as well. The door to the computer room is his boundary.

Our other swallows socks, pees when alone, etc so he's crated. We're hoping he can be uncrated in the near future and join his brother, but that won't happen until we can guarantee his safety in the house.
Most every breed of dog will do that. They just don't know that the car can run them over!

They are caught up in excitement that their human is in there.
Best to have them on lead or in the house - somewhere safe.

This is a DISASTER waiting to happen.
I beg you to leave your boy in the house when you leave.
Please!
