Puppy Cut

Hi Guys.

I hear all these people talk about the Puppy cut.
Can someone submit (or refer me to) a picture of a OES puppy cut?

Thanks.

A puppy cut refers to an OES with hair trimmed to the length of a puppy's coat, about an inch and a half.
Here is Dancer in a "puppy cut"

Yea! That is my favorite look!! I also like the longer look with the hair pulled up into a binder. OES' or SOOO cute. What other cuts are there? (I could probably look it up myself).
Full coat,
puppy cut,
shaved...

And I supose pretty much anything inbetween.
What does a puppy cut run you? Or is is too hard to do by yourself? (inexperienced here....).
I always do all grooming myself. It's not hard to do at all, once you learn, and if you use good quality, proper grooming tools. It does take time though...
OH, Time I got!! It's the experience that I don't! But..I haven't even got a dog yet...so I'm probably getting ahead of myself. I just want to make sure I have EVERYTHING in order before I commit myself!
What a cute picture of Dancer! Max is ready for another puppy cut soon, I'll have to print that one!
I do love that 1 1/2"-2" look! Dancer is adorable in that pic! Hows the mud, by the way?

Karen :)
The mud is AWFUL. LOL
Sky desperately needs a bath, which I still haven't done yet, and Dancer is having accidents in the house again because she won't step in the mud
That pic is from late August or early September I think... it was just after we had moved here....
Great picture of Dancer!
I keep Samantha in a puppy coat most of the year because we live in Florida and the winter can be warm. The picture in the avitar was taken in early December and she has a puppy coat. It was very warm that day and neither dog or kid was cooperating fot the Christmas picture.
Does anyone have examples of a cocker type cut on an OES?
Most cockers are not clipped that I am aware of? at least ours never was....
Hello from Blue Star's Mom:

As a groomer we get many requests for the puppy cut. It is a range of lengths depending what you want for your dog. Usually a "puppy cut" is totally scissored all over. The length I mostly do is where I leave 2 - 2 1/2 inches of hair on the dog when done. I start at the back and work forward with comb and scissors until I get to the neck. Then I round the feet and work up all the legs. The head is blended into the body.

For cockers we usually shave the back and sides with the clippers then start at the feet again and work up to blend. People who want puppy cuts on their cockers don't want the back shaved short. A cocker usually has a wicked thick coat, so we usually don't leave the hair on it too long.

You can use a guide on your clippers for a shorter puppy cut look. You are still going to need to blend with comb and scissors, though.

Good Luck--May
How soon can this type of cut be done? Harry is in quite a mess at the moment - he's been wearing the halti head collar and his useless owners didn't notice the mats forming  - now he has had to have almost all the hair on his face cut off and hair behind his ears removed. I haven't been able to tackle the egg sized mats under his chin and on his legs yet as he grew impatient after the first hour...you can tell it's my first OES can't you?! He's 7 months old now and we live in cold, miserable Scotland where, despite it being April, there's a chance of frost (sob!) Is it perhaps too early to have it done?

ps. I must post a pic of him, I promise you'll never have seen a less elegant sheepdog and it's all my fault...he looks alarmingly like Sprocket from Fraggle Rock!!
Gill

I'd shave him down. The transition coat he has now is difficult to manage anyhow. The mats really have to go right away, you don't want hotspots on Harry.

You can't sissor cut his hair unless it is completely dematted and you'll dull your sissors if it is not clean. If you don't have clippers, let your local groomer do it, it is usually the cheapest cut you can get.
We still have frost every morning, and still a chance of snow some days...lol... so I know the feeling. I shaved Dancer down anyway, she loves being nekkid, but I don't leave her out for any length of time. She goes out to pee with me watching, and when she goes out to play it is only with me. When I first shaved her down (right to the skin, about 4 weeks ago) I put an old sweatshirt of mine on her to go out. Now she has an inch of coat back already.
