Simon's on his way to the ER

We had our roof replaced about a month ago and we had the roofing guy out here once because we had been picking up nails and debris and were concerned the dogs would step on a nail.

Well the concern was warranted. Simon stepped on a nail tonight. Poor guy never said a word..or whimper. He started in the living room where I noticed...something. I walked to the bathroom with the parade right behind me and while I did my business he laid in the hallway. He pulled the nail out and laid there licking his rear paw. I asked him what was wrong and he poked the nail with his nose.

I picked up the nail, realized what had happened, called to dh and we cleaned up Simon and stopped the bleeding and called the ER. I thought that he could wait until tomorrow when our regular Vet opened but they thought the risk of infection was too great and he should be seen tonight.

I can't believe he didn't whine, whimper or yelp. If it was me...well I would have been rather ummmm....LOUD.

I told dh he should call the roofing place tomorrow and tell them to expect a bill.

Wow that is horrible! What a brave doggie! Hoping his recovery is uneventful.
Poor guy--hope all turns out well.
Poor Simon!!!! 8O

Good thing you noticed and got him in - that could have been a nasty infection. :(
Poor boy!

Hope all goes well. Puncture wounds can get nasty fast so best to get it sorted quickly.
Poor guy! OUCH. I am still finding nails from when our roof was redone. I don't know that it is possible to get them all cleaned during a reroof job.
OUCH!!!!!!!

Dazz managed to get her paw caught on a loose spoke of a crate at training one night (went right through the webbing) Antibiotics and she was just fine. Never limped (screamed bloody murder when it happened and it took two of us to free her 8O :twitch: )

You're smart to get it looked at and get him on antibiotics. He should be fine in no time.

A lot less scary than I though when I saw your subject heading :phew:

Here's hoping all went well, and that Simon's feeling all better already.

I don't know that it would get you anywhere, but I'd still be tempted to give that roofer a piece of my mind if I were in your shoes.

Virtual hugs to you Simon. You brave, brave boy.
ladies,
i would suggest to the roofers that they invest in a magnetic sweeper which are becoming popular and not that expensive too prevent future mishaps and injuries and lawsuits. they are like the old pushtype lawnmower with a magnetic bar and can be run around yard and shrubbery. :D

sorry simon. i'm sure you'll be ok.
How's Simon this morning? Hoping all is well...keep us posted.

peg & pup howie
:(

Poor Simon. What a sweet boy that he barely complained.

I hope all went well at the vet and he is on his way to recovery.
Aweeee... Simon........ :( Poor guy!!

I hope he's recovering now.

:ghug:
Sorry to hear about Simon. Hope all goes well. When we had our last roof put on we had our Shar Pei at the time. The roofer new we had a dog and he insisted on laying down a 10 foot plastic tarp directly under the overhangs to catch all the debris that fell. After they cleaned all the mess up they also did a sweep with a magnet device. Nice roofer, must have been a dog owner. Too bad he is no longer in business since we will be needing a roof within a couple of years.
What a BRAVE boy!
:clappurple: :clappurple: well done Simon for being brave. I would have screamed. hope he is better today x
What a stoic you are Simon. Hope you are feeling better.
:ghug:
Hope Simon is okay. I agree a trip to the Vet ( and of course it happens on thw weekend so ER) is warranted. Maybe no big deal but in case. nails are rusty, etc. Hope all went well.

Not that I sell it or have any vested interest, but this is another reason why I have pet insurance! One never knows waht will happen!

Good Luvk Simon and hope your poor paw is better.
Poor Simon
hope your paw feels better soon
