newbie here...thanks for the advice!

Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself since I have been "lurking" these boards for a while and learning a TON! My name is Amy and I live in Upstate NY. My husband, who is a huge dog lover, and I (an all animal person but 100% cat owner growing up) have discussed getting a dog for a long time. We finally moved into a house with a large yard and feel like the time is right to start the discussion. After tons of internet research and talking with different dog owners, we have our hearts set on soon adding an OES to our family...which currently consists of us and two cats. I have to admit, I am a little nervous of bringing a puppy into the mix since it will be a big change, but know it will help complete our family. And our job schedules are pretty different ( I work a typical 9-5 and he owns a pizza shop and works mostly late afternoon into the evening) which will be great because our new puppy will rarely be alone. So THANK YOU for all the questions and answers you have shared, I have a list a mile long of questions to ask the breeder and our vet and look forward to learning a lot more from you experts!

Your timing is really good because next month is the Old English Sheepdog National Specialty and it's right in Rochester, New York. You should come! You can meet lots of breeders and dogs all at once and really get a feel for what they're like. A bunch of people from the forum will be there, too, and we're always happy to meet new people and talk about our dogs.

Here's a link to all the info if you're interested: http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... index.html

Oops, I just reread your post. Did you already find a breeder?
Welcome from St. Louis!!! Hope to meet you if you are going to Nationals!! There will be a few of us from this Forum going and it is so much fun just to be with ALL those wonderful sheepies!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
We're road tripping it out there too from MN. Definitely a "should attend" if at all possible. We are getting in town Saturday (September 18th) night for the herding on Sunday down in Hemlock (interesting name!), then Monday agility, Tues obedience and rally, conformatio0n people moving in on Wed, shows Thursday and Friday. A full week with lots of visiting, health info, meetings and fun. :D

The site rotates, next year it's in North Carolina.
Thanks for sharing, that is something my husband and I will definitely check out, considering Rochester is less than an hour from us. Nope, we haven't found a breeder yet...while we are fairly certain we want a puppy we are still discussing and researching between a puppy and a resuce. I was hoping this site would help us make a decision!
Welcome

Your cats will have a new paly toy!! My Rolf loves cats and will play with the
neighbors cat when ever he gets a chance.

It is good too see the OES has won the heart of more uprights.
