Jury Duty...AGAIN

Ok I'll do my civic duty but for crying out loud this is the third time I've been called. I kept the summons from the last time I was called because it has to be four years between, (A coworker was called and it was only three years but she couldn't prove it because she had thrown out her paperwork) it was five.

The first was reserve, had to go in the first day and got picked for a jury right away. Criminal and lasted a week. Dh had reserve and never had to go in.

Second was regular jury and got picked for a jury right away. This was a civil(I think thats the right word) and lasted a week.

This time I'm on reserve again (for two days) and hopefully I won't have to go in....I will not be holding my breath though.

The only good :?: thing is that I get paid my regular salary from work instead of the $16.00 a day that they "pay".

I have never in my entire life been called - or Todd either. Both our parents did several times for different courts. But never us.
I think it would be kind of interesting, actually.

Dawn, the civil trial was so boring that some jurors fell asleep...during the trial(not me but I struggled).
Oh I feel for you! FIVE times I have been called. David has never been called. No one in my rather large family has ever been called. In Canada it is every two years and I am certain that, two years from this past March, I will be called again. :?
ooooohhhh..I have to go next Monday!!!!

It has been about 4 years since the last time. I hate it, but love it too...I just to just read, read, read,,,UNLESS I get called!!!!!

I'll second that. I've sat on two civil cases, both were property related, very obvious who was in the right, devastatingly boring and could've been decided in an hour. Instead, the first one was 2 weeks and the other one was almost 1 week. I also remember struggling to stay awake.

A criminal trial might be a lot more fun, though.
I have never been called. I'd love to do jury duty. I think it would be fascinating. Since I'm a teacher, colleagues who have been called for jury duty get a letter from the administrator which usually gets them out of going. I wouldn't want a letter.

I'd LOVE to go. I guess that's why no one ever asks me. :(
There was a period there I was being called for everything from municipal up to federal. Nothing lately. DH has never been called here and only one in another state. Now he's beyond the age limit...70 here, though when I was serving there were several older men serving as the age limit is voluntary......you can serve if you want. Guess they were bored.

My fav was grand jury. More time commitment, but far more interesting and no coming to verdicts. Just listen to evidence and decide if a case should proceed to trial.

Here the roster is made up of voters and driver's license. So hopefully the roster is full enough I won't be called again.
Wow! You should buy a Lotto ticket I'm thinking! You being picked twice for jury duty tells me both the defense and prosecution see you as a fair minded person and so that's a good thing.

I've always wished to be called as well, would find it interesting. I guess if you are chosen after the first day or two the novelty wears off.

Hope they allow you to bow out this time as you've already done your civic duty TWICE!

Good luck!
My mother is 89 (and a half), has lived in the same neighborhood all her life and has NEVER been called for jury duty. I'd love to know how the names are selected. I got a summons a few years ago for Cook County and I hadn't lived there for 5 years. (My ex-husband felt he had to forward the notice instead of just returning it with "no longer at this address" written on it. Perhaps this is one of the reasons he is my ex. )

There is no bowing out..you can postpone only once and thats for up to six months.
My hubby just got a letter for Jury duty, no way of getting out of it HA HA HA 8)

Me a few moons ago, got the call as I had dependant young kids no need to attend can be excused 8) :clappurple: now no excuse if anything comes through the mail DARN IT.
Hmmm maybe furry hair kids might be an option ? :lmt:

My poor hubby is not a happy chappy and from now till the end of Nevember can be supenoed (sp) to be on a jury. :? Glad it's him and not me that got that darn letter in the mail :D
If you've ever been the victim of a crime involving weapons you have to fill out forms with circumstances and details. Since I've been robbed at gunpoint a few times they never ask me to sit on a jury, I always get excused. I think it would be fun unless you got a case that lasted as long as the OJ trial.
Ha1 I work in the court! You will only get called if you are registered with the Elections Bureau. And you should only get called once every 4 years. Well, that's here in NY anyway. But save your "receipt" that you were there. And, no there is usually no way to get out of it unless you are over 75, or care for an invalid relative or can't drive, etc. They make it very difficult!

And yes civil trials are quite boring! But crimianl ones are sort of Perry Mason-ish and interesting.....
Well...Happy Day....I go to jury duty on Monday!!!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
