No A/C, will the dogs be ok?

Our air conditioner busted last night and it won't be replaced until thursday evening. We borrowed a window unit from my sister, but it doesn't work! It's supposed to be 94 degrees tomorrow and stormy. We have 3 fans blowing by the windows but it is incredibly hot in here. Marley is a little more resilient, but Rudie is panting like crazy and clearly uncomfortable.

Will they be ok tomorrow during the day? I'll leave a block of ice in the water bowl and an extra bowl out with the fans blowing and the blinds shut... but there's not much else I can do.

Advice would be much appreciated!

I read somewhere to put a bowl of water in the freezer, then, tomorrow, you would put that frozen bowl in front of a fan. Not sure how much it would help, but might be worth a shot to get you through the day.
our AC went out during a heat wave 2 years ago. it was 95 or more outside, and 110 inside. I went with the dogs to stay at a hotel. Can yours go to doggie daycare maybe?
I think I'm going to take them to daycare. I was trying to avoid that since it is so expensive and we're a little strapped for cash, but I'm going to worry all day if I don't.

I guess tomorrow will be the kids' first day of school!
It's a little late, but friends of mine have this cool little AC thingie. You fill it w/ ice and it blows the cooled air out. They use it at shows for their St Bernards. They even used it in a tent and they had frost on the walls!
It was in use at the UKC show and weight pull last weekend when it was really hot - it works really well.

It is by 02 Cool, I have a fan from them for Chewie and it works great.
Runs on batteries or AC - both the fan and the portable ACunit.

Thankfully ours is being repaired on Thursday, and the repairman said it will be much more efficient.

The look on the dogs face this morning when they saw they were coming with me and didnt have to stew in the hot apartment all day was priceless. I hope they behave at daycare so they can go back tomorrow... I'm waiting for the call to tell me Rudie is expelled
Ugh...no A/C... in this heat? You must have baked alive last night!! Josh is home this week for shut down and he was complaining how hot it was inside and we had our AC on.

Here's hoping that Rudie will be an apt pupil and be as good as Marley at daycare!
We got the window unit to work so the bedroom is cold, but the rest of the play is still hot as hell.

The dogs enjoyed daycare all day. They were stressed out, but they played a little with each other and slept next to each other which is something we don't usually see so that's sweet. Rudie was so happy to see me he collapsed on the floor, rolled over on his back and started writhing around while snorting. Cutest.
Heather if you have a tiled or lino area and the air con is not working an old trick I use to do is a fan going, damping a towel and the dogs lying on that to help cool them down. Also a mist bottle of chilled water and occassionally just misting them. It works well to keep them cooler, back in the days here before we had the good sense to intall air con being in Australia the heat in summer can be stiffling, at the time I had dogs in full coat and it worked well for them to keep them comfortable. Curtains drawn, dark inside, damp towel, fan going, on tiles or lino and occassional misting.

Soooo glad we have air con now but it did work well pre air con days.
Thanks for the tip Lisa! Knowing that you went through summers in Australia with no ac and dogs in full coat makes me and Rudie feel like a couple of wimps!

we were without power for a few days last weekend when it was so hot. We had a air unit in our bedroom but our house is bigger and it just didn't cut it. I closed the blinds and Frankie would lay on the tile floor where it was cool. I even would let him sit in the car with the air running. He hates the heat. I know I'm a wimp, I don't think I could be with out air conditioning.

Hope all is cool soon.
