A Bad Feeling...

I was so excited this morning to find an OES pup on petfinder, emailed the contact person and received a response that said I was lucky that he had just listed the pup for a customer of his and gave me the email for that person. Next thing I know I am receiving a response from someone in Nigeria willing to ship the pup to me for $300!! Needless to say my bubble got burst in a hurry. I had saved the ad and went back to it only to find out that it had been deleted. How often does this scam like behavior happen?? :(

Was it PETfinder or PUPPYfind?

I know on PUPPYfind, there are supposed breeders that will post numerous listings for up to 50 breeds of dogs. I've seen it 3 times total since I've been watching the ads. All puppies are offered for the same price. If it's Puppyfind, notify them that an advertiser has not been properly screened. They do pull the ads if they find them.

I'm sorry you got duped. Have you checked OESCA's breeder referral list?

Maybe consider a rescue dog too. There are some great dogs waiting for loving homes... already housetrained, know some basic commands. They're just waiting for someone to love them. Remember that not all rescues list all dogs in their care... so it's important to get an approved application on file so, if by chance a puppy comes in, you'll be ready to go.

Good luck with your search.
Yowzer... how disappointing, huh? It sucks to get your hopes up on finding a dog you may be able to adopt to only be scammed.

It seems right now that there are a LOT of dogs coming into rescue. If you are still looking for a young dog, Max is available through the Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue... he's SUCH a cutie!!
It was puppyfind, the ad was there at 6am and as soon as I got the email from the other guy I went back in and it was gone. I just checked my emails also and when I first emailed I cc'd to the original contact person..I'm now getting a message that the email is undeliverable. I've been looking for sometime now, we're in Michigan and all the availables are south and in the midwest. I even emailed Candy when I seen that she had 11 in Fla, but didn't hear back, I know she was busy. We were very lucky 3 years ago to find Keaton, he was a rescue, Mom died and he ended up in a foster home at 4 weeks, once he reached 8 weeks we were allowed to take him home..he went from 11 lbs, to tipping the scales at 140 now!! Sooner or later the pieces will all fall into place again for us....
I'm not a big fan of puppyfind; I think you are more likely to be scammed on that site. Do you have your heart set on a puppy? I know there are younger dogs on petfinder. Puppies are harder to find in rescue.
I have received emails trying to sell me Old English Bulldogs from another country.
We would welcome a young dog also, just not too old. I've seen some older ones that appear to be great dogs but My hubby doesn't want to get attached for a short period of time. I've had OES since 1980 and 10 years is the youngest that I've lost one at. We would like something young enough to have many years of it's clownish antics to enjoy. When we found Keaton I had months of searching and all of a sudden he was there on petfinder from the shelter....that's what I thought I had found again this morning with the 12 week old listing.
PM'd You!
Keaton's Mom... have you considered Buffy? She's been in rescue, geez, a LONG time now. I think she's been at this rescue for a number of years. She shouldn't be terribly far away. She's only 3.5 years old, so still a lot of life in her!

Max is an awesome dog and he is only 8 months old. Check out his listing - http://www.texasoesrescue.org/Max3page.htm. I am currently fostering him and he is big puppy. He is all sheepie with big ears. I would be a foster failure if I didn't already have 3 dogs/2 cats and starting nursing school in August.

I recently fostered 2 OES for TX OES Rescue that found their forever home in Woodstock, IL (Chicagoland Area).

Please PM if you want more info on Max. He is going to be one hairy boy once his hair grows back.

Michelle
thanks to everyone for their help, I really appreciate it. I still can't believe how fast this turned on me today, but it just means it wasn't meant to be if there really was a pup. I know that soon there will be a furever dog out there just perfect for our family!!

Pete, Gwen Abby, & Keaton [kids too!!]

I was looking at her today I didn't realize she was still on there....that is awfully strange.

I had to come back to edit this after I thought about it....
I guess I have had a foster or two longer than the norm so
I guess it does happen!
