my black dog is gone

Jack, our black labrador retriever, was helped to cross the bridge yesterday at 1 pm. I held him in my arms till he took his last breath. He was a pound dog that someone adopted but did not want in their home. He was tied to a tree when hurricane floyd was arriving. I don't need to tell you the rest of the story. He loved with all his labby heart and I loved him with all mine. He absoultly loved having a home to call his own. We got him in sept. and I still remember him standing in the middle of all the wrapping paper Christmas morning wagging his tail with that labby grin as if to say "I have a home This is grand!!" He and my yellow lab, savannah, gave Guinness the love of retrieving. I believe guinness thinks he is part lab. My heart is just broken. It seems odd that the house seems empty and I have 4 other dogs. He was my black dog, protector and lover to all . He was just a good dog. It will take me a long time to stop crying.

Jack hunt with the hounds and swim with the retrievers, god speed ,you are so missed......

I love black labs, the goofy ones who love hard, retrieve endlessly, swim effortlessly, and just enjoy life. Another at the bridge is so sad.
So very very sorry for your loss. What a beautiful guy. Love his smile. :ghug: :ghug:
You painted a lovely picture of Jack and his big labby heart.

Oh, Cindy. I heard last night that Jack has gone to heaven. I know your heart aches with this loss. What a wonderful boy... I can picture that Christmas morning memory you shared! He knew what it meant to be loved and all because of you. :hearts: I'm so sorry this hurts so much.
Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss. :(

He sounds like a wonderful dog. How lucky he was to have had you in his life. In return he left you with a lifetime of memories of his joyful self.

Take care.

:ghug:
I am very sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss of your sweet Jack. How lucky he was to have found his furever home with you, and how lucky you were to have him in your life. :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
I'm so sorry your beautiful sweet Jack had to leave you. What a lucky boy he was to have found his way to you, and how lucky you were to have had all of his love :hearts:
:ghug: :ghug: :ghug: from me and Maggie, a rescued black lab girlie who sends you kisses from those soft labby lips
Please tell Maggie thank you. NOTHING loves like a lab!Thank you all for the warm thoughts. It means a lot. I picked up Jacks ashes today. All I have left of a dog that loved hard, retrieved endlessly, swam effortlessly, and just enjoyed life in general, is a small wooden box..... I did not even get a name plate. I miss his labby tail thunking against the bathroom wall while I was in there , the thumping of that same tail on the floor when he heard my voice. He was my dancing buddy and did not complain when I sang He always let us know when anyone was near "his" house. Boy did he let us know!.Damn this is hard. In two years I have lost two horses, my mother and three dogs. You would think I was used to this. I still feel his soft face against mine when he went to sleep.
Cindy I feel your pain:(, if I could jump through the screen and give you a big hug I would  Im so so sorryxxx

Debsx
what a beautiful boy, thank you for loving him and giving him a home. He is with you always...RIP over the Bridge sweetheart xx
:ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
God Speed Jack
I am very sorry for your loss :ghug: :ghug:
It is so heartwrenching when we lose our beloved dogs but I think it is an indescribable pain when we have to put them to sleep. It is both a privilege and immense pain to hold them in our arms as they cross the Bridge. I will never forget that moment.

My heart breaks for you. At the same time, be comforted that you gave Jack great happiness, love and a family he can call his own. :ghug:
Thank you all for the support . It means so much. Yes Jack led a charmed life for a pound dog. He had endless balls to retrieve, bones to chew, a warm bed to sleep in , treats a plenty and he had a pool to swim in when he was younger. No one cared when he chewed paddock boots or t shirts. My heart is happy that he ended up here and had such a good life. Although it was too short for me

Hugs

:ghug:
I know your heart is hurting but, any dog that makes it to crazy acres is
a lucky dog!
I love you Cindy!
I'm so sorry, Cindy. I'm very saddened by your loss and wish I could do more to ease your pain.
Cindy, I am so sorry. What a gorgeous boy.

I haven't been a bridge visitor in a while, so I just read about your Jack.

I love my goofy labs too, they are their own special kind of sweet :D

I'll give Biscuit boy a hug tonight for Jack. :ghug: :ghug:
So very sorry to hear of your loss. At least he lived out his final days in a loving home! The crying takes time...my Molly has been gone for over a year and a half and I still randomly cry for her. I try to stay off of "Crossing the Rainbow bridge" because I cry even reading about other peoples pets, so I can't offer any advise on helping you stop hurting. :ghug:
