Gray polka dots

Just had Winston, age 3 1/2, trimmed short. I last had him trimmed in late April. His white fur is rather thin and his pink skin shows through the hair. (My female is trimmed the same length but her fur is much thicker and you can't see any pink.)
Winston has a very pink face.
Since April he has develped a number of gray spots on his pink skin. These gray dots are showing through his white fur now that he is trimmed. He's also develped some on his face. Most of them are the size of a dime or a penny.
What's with the gray polka dots?
Just curious.

It sounds like more pigment coming in. For many dogs (and many breeds) they gain pigment over their entire lives.

Funny thing, I just mentioned last night to Todd (husband) that Riley's (rat terrier) ticking spots seemed to be bigger and more vibrant. He agreed, so I knew I wasn't just hallucinating! Riley will be 5 in September.

And Chewie is getting more and more spots in his whites too. Some even are sprouting grey hairs as they get bigger. Chewie just turned 4.
It's quite common, even normal. Even our Great Pyrs had/have leopard skin. I'd say now as an elderly Glacier Pyr is more black than white in her skin pigment. Does your pup have black inside the mouth too?
