Drinking too much water?

At least twice a week Luna will drink too much water too fast and then she ends up throwing it up after. I am just remembering to ask about it now because she just threw up water all over me and my couch cushion  Is this just a normal habit they have and if not how can I work on that? I don't want her to get bloat or any other issues that could arise from her drinking too fast!

Hudson sometimes does this, so I monitor and interrupt his drinking. When Rudy first arrived he drank like crazy, and we even had him tested for kidney issues. Again, I kept interrupting his drinking and then we limited water. He settled back in over time and now it's not an issue.

I've heard of putting a large rock in the water bowl, or other obstacles to make it more challenging to drink. That slows them down. Some people swear by ice cubes and others are completely against it. I'm sure you'll get lots of advice here.
Luna is a very pretty girl!

Oscar used to do this as well, so we started only putting only 10 - 12 oz of water in his bowl at a time. When he drinks it, I refill the bowl. It has solved the problem completely.

One of my dogs is like that and no.. he's never outgrown it.

Just give a little amount at a time. Problem solved for us! :)
Its not really ideal if they drink alot of water and then vomit it. Its not really "vomit", it sort of a regurgitation. BUT...drinking too much too quickly can cause bloat. Especially if the drnk alot fo water and then run or exert in some high energy exercise. My older dog drinks like this and then spits it up.
What I've done is this....If they are just coming in from running out in the hot air, I give them a small amount of water. Wait five minutes, give them a small amount of water. By small, I mean about a cup. I let them cool down a bit and then give them more water. I NEVER deny them water. Just monitor it a little at a time, allowing a few minutes to elpase between replenishing. Its hot out there. I would not deny them water. Just monitor it, a little at a time. Until they cool down. I always have fresh water available and at night I keep a water dish for them as well.
I've got those spill-less bowls and that really helps slow them down. It also helps with wet beards!
Thank you for your replies. Bloat is the biggest issue I'm worried about. I will try your suggestions and I'm sure something will work!
I agree the spill less bowl is great.
It really slows them down. :clappurple:
Luna is very cute.
I also agree with the spill less water bowls. It really helped slow Frankie's drinking down.
