Gassy dog no longer gassy?

Wendel is on a diet. With help from the board, I have cut back his food from three cups a day to two cups a day (one in the am and one in the pm) and then I divide a half cup of unsalted green beans into his food. Wendel and Asterisk LOVE the beans. In fact, Asterisk is actually eating her food pretty regularly now since I am giving her beans, too (in my household, I can't just give one kid one thing and not share it with both).

I have noticed that Wendel isn't farting anymore. Where he used to fart constantly, to a point where it was really pretty raunchy in the house, it seems to have stopped. I'm trying to figure out if its due to the decrease in food or due to the beans. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining in the slightest about the change, I just would like to know what is causing it.

Incidentally, Wendel acts like I'm starving him. He's grabbing the empty trash can and going for any morsel of food that Asterisk hasn't eaten. Poor chubby dude!!

Also, aside from green beans, I'd like to try other vegetables, what other vegetables could I try and keep the gas at bay?

Poor Wendel! Being on a diet is no fun! I would definatley say the decrease in food has lessened the gas. He will most likely poop less as well-double bonus!
Less food - less gas.

When I was trying to get Chewie to gain weight when he was younger and showing, he was the nasty gassy machine. Now that we are just maintaining, he rarely ever gases.

Simon the basset tends to get thin too, and I really have packed the food at him occassionally, and sure enough, he gets gassy. And he NEVER is a farting dog otherwise.
The green beans -- are they fresh, thawed frozen, or canned? Sounds like something I'd like to try for Gus ...

I used unsalted green beans in the can. So far it's working great! Wendel gets all excited when I put the green beans in there. He still acts like he's starving, he did that when he was getting more food. I hope to see some results in the next few weeks.
I've been doing fresh green beans steamed until there tender on Frankies food for about 2 weeks he loves them. Fresh spinach is another good one. I switch back and forth.

Thanks to all for the green bean tip.

I imagine a diet of kibble, hip and joint treats, and a bedtime Milk Bone can get pretty boring, so I like to dress up Gus's dinner every so often with something extra. Now I can add green beans to Gus's list of "extras" that include a scrambled egg, cut-up string cheese, a small piece or three of cooked white meat chicken, and a dollop or two of Beneful beef stew. (Gus LOVES that beef stew -- licks his bowl clean on beef stew days!)
