Rudy ate a scrunchie!

That dog has eaten everything...I don't know what to say!

We've been putting an IV bag on Hudson's bandaged foot when he goes out. The standard elastic was too big, and doubling it was too small so I was using a fabric covered ponyholder.

They ran in together, and apparently decided to play tug of war with the bag. By the time I got there it was off and the scrunchie was nowhere to be found. One gulp I suspect.

That was about thirty hours ago. I've read all about obstructions online and they all suggest some sort of vomiting as the most common sign. He's showing absolutely no vomiting, no tenderness or bloating, and no loss of appetite at all. He's had four meals since the scrunchie. He had a good BM this morning, and some messiness this afternoon. We have not yet seen the scrunchie, but he has passed a sock before (much larger, and we didn't know about it until it was out). He is also a little gassy, but not horrible. Today was Canada Day so our vet was closed, and I didn't call the emergency vet as he is still showing no signs of actual distress.

I'm trying not to panic...the signs look pretty good that it will be okay, but Rudy...WHY???? OH WHY?????

This one was right in front of us. There was no stopping him. I'm starting to think he needs a muzzle in the house to save him from himself.

Dogs can be such a worry! I hope your sweet Rudy is ok and the scrunchie comes through without a blockage. :ghug:
Naughty, naughty..... 8O

I hope all passes without incident :crossed:
Brick has eaten one of those before and passed it.
Didn't even know it until I found it in the yard all twisted up in the shape of, well you know what.
Sybil's eaten worse  Fingers crossed.

Well all seems well this morning. He is no longer gassy, had a large, healthy poop, and stepped in it. (Washing his paw was the most traumatic part...everytime we do something new he thinks we're trying to kill him...LOL).

No sign of the scrunchy, but it was a cotton fabric which may well have digested, or at least been broken up. That would just leave an elastic to pass and we could easily miss it. He won't do his business if you're too close, and there are bushes, so actually finding it could be a challenge. I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm very thankful he's seeming ok this morning as I am not going to be home during the day to watch him. (Although I would have tried to cancel had he needed me of course.)

I think we're out of the woods.

Way to go Garbage Gullet!
Where's Lisa?!

Apparently if she puts Syd and Bab's in a crate together then Mr Syd eats Bab's small towelling hair ties right out of her head coat for her. :cow: He likes to try to keep his sister in the dark, must be cause she's usually one step ahead of him.

Then its the watch and wait for it to reappear effort.
Happy to hear Rudy is doing well. Silly Rudy
All the Canadians I ever came across called them elastics... is an elastic a different KIND of scrunchie?
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. You silly mutt! Glad he is ok!
Must be something in the name Rudy/Rudie. I never know if it's you or Heather posting when one of them eats something they're not supposed to. :-)
It can take 3 to several days to pass, believe me I am an expert with towelling scrunchies, Kelsey use to do it, Syd does it now

Cant see that it is big enough to cause a problem with hudson, just keep an open eye on the doo doos and look for a colour flash, one time it took several days for syd to pass a colourfull one

We go through a lot of top knot ties here he has definately inherited his great aunties fetish for top knot ties.

I laugh at the rainbow doo doos and say Ooooh you finally passed it and Oh it was that colour in Babs head coat a few days ago that you managed to eat.

Better a scrunchie then something larger like a sock or undies.
It's a fabric covered elastic...the elastic is inside and there's a large fabric ring (think doughnut shaped) around the outside of the elastic. When you pull the elastic out the fabric is flat, but when you wind it around the hair the fabric "scrunches" up.

If it were just an elastic, or a typical ponyholder I wouldn't worry, but the additional fabric (think of a doughnut where the "tube" part is a little over an inch, and double layered) IS the reason I'm concerned.

I don't think it has necessarily passed yet...but there's no evidence it's blocking anything at this point, and things are moving well, so I'm hoping he's okay. The fabric was cotton, so it may well have disintegrated in his tummy (or at least broken up), which would make it easier to pass.

He's eating well, in good spirits, and still no sign of trouble. I'll still be happier the more time passes of course...or to find the evidence it has made it through would be nice too.
the latest photo of rudy is the spittin image of my guy, except mine had blue eyes.
anyway, he and his lil brother helped build the victoria's secret empire.
even after my wife and daughters were told to put that stuff outta their reach, they somehow still managed till i said ok, straight to the drawers with it from the dryer.

so i'm not worried, thunk rudester will be fine.
:)
